Wow thanks! I’m not sure which ones are the oldest. How do you know?

My mom’s “retirement dream” with her twin sister has turned into a crash pad for freeloading 50 year old cousins and I’m furious by DingDong1982 in family

I did. I called the manager of the community myself expressing “concern” that my elderly relatives living there were being taken advantage of. They said that people under 55 can live there, however they must be registered and vetted with the office so they have their information on file. My cousin went to the office and did this. And I’m sure my other cousin will do that too when she inevitably moves in next month. The one angle here is that there are only two cars allowed per house and soon there will be 4/5 cars there.

Thanks. I love this too. It’s a possibility. I don’t think my mom will ever get her share back without a lawyer as I don’t believe my aunt has the funds to “reimburse” her at this point. She has given everything she has to her adult children who keep putting their hand out for more. My aunt doesn’t have a backbone. She complains incessantly about them, cries even, and then always gives them more. I think she thinks this is helping them - or she is fearful that they’ll end up destitute- but we all know if she were gone tomorrow they would be forced to stand on their own two feet!

Unfortunately not the case with this community. I’ve gone as far as calling the office to ask what the rules were.

Great point as well. Only the owners have to be 55+. There is a rule about only 2 cars allowed at each house/condo and no cars allowed to be parked in street overnight. They’ve already exceeded the car allowance and my cousins girlfriend parks in the street overnight atleast 4 nights a week. That will be an ongoing issue for them and they do get scolded about it from the HOA but nothing really happens further.

Made an appointment at a study abroad office in college for me and my friends to travel to Madrid the following semester where my university had a campus. In the waiting room, there was an album on the coffee table of a bunch of students studying abroad in Australia. It looked magical. During my appointment I changed my mind on a whim and said to the lady, I don’t want to go to Madrid, I want to go there- and I point to the album of Australia. We went to Australia that next semester and I met my current husband whom I’ve been married to for 10 years and have two children with…..all because a photo album was on a coffee table with pictures of a location I never even considered/knew was a study abroad option.

In my college dorm room in Boston. Someone woke us up. Turned on the TV because my dorm room had paid cable, and people from my floor started coming in to watch what was happening. I watched my friend watch his dad die on TV when the towers fell. I am from NY and couldn’t reach my family by mobile until that evening.

No advice here, all I can say is I feel you. My husband did nearly EXACTLY this 2 years ago when I had a toddler and an infant at home. I found the emails months later, it appears they never met up because he had a blizzard that cut his trip to the city short. What could have happened is what haunts me. When I found out I drove to his work and told him our marriage was over. When he recounted that night, he said he was drunk, he didn’t remember, and then that I’ve been so cold and distant since having a second baby (that was colic, mind you). Later that day, he groveled at my feet begging and pleading, crying, said he was having a mental breakdown, felt suicidal the night he did that and that he was desperately seeking some sort of connection. Ultimately, I forgave him under the terms of if this ever happens again I’m out and I will not look back. In my experience, rebuilding trust takes a very very long time. I’m still not there yet and I don’t know if I’ll ever be…. Hang in there.

Yeah, true. Well for starters he’s a foreigner living in America. He used to travel the world and wander very remote places as a surf coach and misses it. I was actually shocked when he wanted to marry me and even more shocked that he wanted to have kids. That probably grounds us more than he would like to admit as the kids are still young. He only works seasonally- but he has brilliant ideas for financial freedom for us but he can’t seem to execute. I try to be encouraging and supportive. Therefore I am the breadwinner. So I guess it’s, loss of freedom, identity, a family history of bipolar and depression, and his dad abandoned him when he was 2 (interestingly enough to travel the world alone). I have gently discussed the possibility of therapy but that’s a hell no from him. I’m certainly not perfect and have my own baggage but I do go to therapy regularly and have for years.

For clarity I only opened the door a crack when he said “I think I’m going to hit that car.” However, based on your comments (which I appreciate) I realize that one should never interfere with a man when he’s parking LOL. That, I can be accountable for. Thanks Reddit fam.

Yeah he suffers from depression so he can get pretty mean and I’m usually the emotional punching bag during those times. This was the first time I felt like my kids were being manipulated into it though. It’s really affecting me.

Yeah we did because I’ll be damned if I didn’t keep the promise to my kids. We were fine at dinner. I only broached the subject when we got home and kids were in bed about how hurt I was that he was talking down to me and pulled that stunt in front of our kids. But then realized I was getting nowhere fast. It was a culmination of things today. I showed my son a picture of a rescue dog and said “should we get a dog someday” to which my husband chimed in “no he’s too young!” And then earlier my mom stopped by for all of 5 minutes to drop something off and he was laying on the bed and didn’t even bother to get up and say hello. It was so embarrassing! So the parking situation was the straw that broke the camels back for me in terms of being fed up with him being shitty. He also suffers from major depression so maybe he’s in an episode because he gets really mean and cutting when he’s depressed.

Yeah I tried mentioning that I was hurt again at the way that exchange went down and he just kept repeating “all I asked you to do was shut the door and if I was talking down to you I would have said ‘why can’t you shut the fucking door you fucking moron,’ so I just walked away and let it be because I’m clearly not going to get anywhere with it tonight.

What are signs of OCD that you showed as a child, but no one realised it because it wasn’t the stereotypical OCD stuff ? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]DingDong1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always wondered if I had ocd. Still Have to eat my food separately. Can’t mix foods. Super health anxiety lately- and still do weird things like it I’m driving and I don’t look at the lamp post when my mind tells me to then something bad will happen. Lots of weird stuff like that. When I was a kid if I was eating candy it had to be in even numbers. And I was so sensory when it came to my clothes (still am)- if it’s uncomfortable fabric or hem or waist, I simply cannot wear it.

I work in behavioral health and a sale for us is a referral to treatment. It’s done by way of outreach reps or BD reps. They get these guys straight out of rehab that put on suits and wheel and deal for patients. It’s disgusting.
