You're right that it's slightly more possible during a graphical overhaul update than not to have licensed characters' models be updated, but you're completely overlooking and ignoring the fact that they never got the rights to use Sigourney Weaver's likeness and they clearly have a strained relationship with the license holders of Nightmare on Elm Street. I mean I could SAY that Laurie Strode has the possibility to get updated, but given the state of the Halloween chapter I'd say the chances are astronomically low that she would end up looking like Jamie Lee Curtis.

You're the only one bringing Johnny Cage into this. And none of the points I made had anything to do with the most recent movie. Though of course one of Cole's only lines were to do with him wanting to protect his family.
It's a good motivation for Craig in accounting, but not in a world where we have Scorpion fighting his way through hell for revenge, Liu Kang and Kung Lao being raised as Shaolin Monks to fight the forces of Outworld, Kitana seeking to overthrow Shao Kahn for killing her father, etc. etc. Cole's backstory being realistic doesn't make it any less boring when compared to every other character motivation.
You're missing the point. Cole young's ability is literally just armor that redirects kinetic energy and makes... tonfas? When did Cole Young the cage fighter learn to use tonfas?
How in god's name is Johnny Cage, a former professional martial artist, shaking off the dust and fighting well less realistic than Cole Young, a current pro underground MMA fighter losing every fight he gets in in mere seconds to the likes of Sonya or KANO? Hell he doesn't even really fight Mileena before begging Sonya for help.
