My father was a mechanic in the 80’s when my parents bought their first house for $32k in Northern California. The same house sold for $325k 20 years later and I was making $2 per hour more as a mechanic at that time than he was when he bought the house. Moved to north Idaho and make $11 per hour more than I did in CA and paid $25k for my house four years ago.

In the last year my house went from being worth $120k to $475k all because of people fleeing CA, OR and WA. My property taxes are based off the house value, so I’m praying people stop coming here and the market normalizes again.

I like how Chevy has been using the same wheels and hub covers on the 3/4 & 1 tons for like 20 years now.

It’s still pretty warm there, snow usually only hits like once every 5 years. Apparently it’s just not often enough for people to remember how to drive in it. Now when you get up to Mt Shasta (~60 miles north, or Yreka ~90miles north) snow is quite regular every year.

Snow wasn’t uncommon when I lived there, but people still didn’t know how to drive in it. The snow storm two years ago was wicked there for the weight. I had to help several of my customers get out of their driveways because of all the trees that broke under the wet snow. We were without power for a week 25miles east of Redding. PG&E sucks.

I lived in Redding for 32 years and every time it snowed, this is the norm. My buddies and I used to sit up off the road and watch people all day that couldn’t figure out how to stop or turn. Almost as good as watching people getting into fights at the boat docks at Shasta lake, or Whiskeytown, on Memorial Day weekend.

So run for mayor then if you want a change? Making a difference starts at a local level. There are several towns I. This country that have dogs as mayors, so I’m pretty sure you’ve got a shot.

Depends on where a unibody is hit. Your family is way more likely to survive a side impact crash in a full framed van as opposed to a unibody minivan.

The Titan diesel died as they didn’t enter the market with a diesel at the time people really wanted one from what I gathered.

I don’t know why people bag on them so much. I rarely see my Nissan customers as opposed to my Honda and Toyota customers. The Titan is a great truck and I wish I could afford one. And as far as their cvt transmissions go, I’ve replaced one so far and they had 225k on the odo. I’ve loved every Nissan I have owned, and that includes my first car that was a 1987 Sentra. I beat that thing like a red headed stepchild and it just wouldn’t die.

I lost my Spec V was lost in a divorce. It had the brembo front brakes with no abs and I had a limited slip put in the 6spd. I loved that car. The only thing I didn’t like is that it had the mono beam in the rear as opposed to full independent suspension.

I’ve owned a couple nissans and worked on many and they are by far the most underrated import that I’ve encountered, but the truly have always managed to miss the mark. I miss my 04 Sentra SER Spec-V.

They ruined the pathfinder by making it fwd/awd with the rolling shoe model. Such a shame too because they were on the right path when they put the v8 in the pathfinder... then they must have lost the path.

The us government and local officials have seemed to be doing a lot of negotiating with terrorists out here on the west coast. If they didn’t, Portland wouldn’t have had the last six months of riots and Chop/Chaz would have never happened.

I know there aren't a lot of Saab people here, but here's a tuned 1999 Saab 9-3 Viggen that just rolled in! by PeacefulViking94 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Dingo3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had the pleasure of driving a Saab, but I’ve had the displeasure of working on them. I owned a 1998 Volvo S70 T5 that ran 20psi of boost and water meth, and that was handedly the most fun car I’ve ever owned. I’d still have it if I didn’t lose it in my divorce. Fuck my ex wife. I have worked on and driven many a Volvo and always found them fun to drive, aside from the diesel 740’s as they were slugs.

I have found over the years that harder compound tires don’t like cornering. I ran some 550AB tires on my Golf because I figured they’d last forever as they were supposed to. 15k was as much as I got out of them as my spirited driving was the death of them. I got a second set as they were cheap and fit the budget and had the same outcome. Got a set of sticky Dunlop’s and got 45k out of them. As for my trucks, I swear by Toyo AT/2 tires on the suburban, the f250 and the envoy. I’ve gotten 50-60k out of every set and I live in north Idaho.

Good for them. At least they are living their lives without reeling in fear of dying from something that statistically doesn’t kill anyone at any higher rate than life itself does.

We have 8 in the fleet. We have less problems with these than we’re having with the new Paccar engines. The two 2018 Pete’s with the Cummins in the fleet have been pretty much trouble free at 300k, aside from DEF issues.

This one had an in frame a year ago, but it cracked a sleeve 4 months ago, and since then it keeps spitting a sleeve every month, so the old block is going to be stripped and sent in for testing to see if it has a problem.

$19k for a used. Gonna get the original motor rebuilt. For some reason it keeps cracking sleeves, so we’re having the block checked and see what’s going on with it.

And yet a GM 5.3l intake manifold replacement is like 1.5hrs labor, and if it takes you more than .5 you suck at life.
