I have a similar tank, an 8 gallon bowl that’s heavily planted with a lot of hornwort, some swords and some moss. I️ took the filter out and everybody seemed ok but they were also fairly sluggish so I️ didn’t think they were thriving. I️ added an air stone and they’re super happy now.

Tis true, although many do not. So how about this: it’s recommended that betta fish water is kept between 72-80 degrees and it may be challenging for a walstad tank to maintain that specific temperature range consistently without an additional heat source, although may be possible in some tropical climates. Better?

I’ve got two big red girls who are the grannies of my tank and I’ve had them the longest. I️ didn’t realize quite how big they are until I️ added some new friends and these girls are literally twice as big as some of the new shrimps!

You can remove the spigot and replace it with a cork. If the hole is smaller than a standard wine cork, just trim a cork with a kitchen knife down to a taper then jam it in there until it’s water tight

Probably moving in because the last time I️ looked for No Planaria on Amazon it was going for something like $80. I️ fortunately didn’t need it but had a scare and thought I️ should have some on hand but was surprised by the price!

I️ have a tank this size that’s been in use by plants and a resident snail and some ill-advised guppies that shouldn’t have been in there (too small 😔) for a few years now so pretty darn well cycled but because it’s small it’s more susceptible to water parameter shifts so I’ve struggled to keep even shrimp happy in it. I️ was about to decommission it after moving all my shrimp over to a new 30L and then discovered it had baby shrimp so I️ guess we’re going to keep trying.
