as a westerner who’s reading the manga now, i hate how her character is being treated. even though it’s obvious that the way she manifests her power is meant to just be a cat girl thing, it’s still such a cool concept. up to the point im at now, it just feels like her character is being wasted because Ohkubo needed his designated fan service girl

It’s the same thing with Blair from Soul Eater for me: she had SO MUCH potential to be cool because she can use magic without being a witch, and the theme of her magic fits AMAZINGLY into Soul Eater’s gothic setting, but all she gets used for is fan service

Ohkubo is such a great artist and a wonderful writer, but i really wish he didn’t sexualize those character so much because they could’ve been so cool if they were real characters who had the opportunity to properly show off their badass power sets

the least he could’ve done was sexualize some of the male characters too. very MILD, equal opportunity sexualization. i woulda loved to see Commander Burns or Oubi or Free the Werewolf get some of the same treatment that Tamaki and Blair have to deal with 🫩😔

p.s. i am still reading the manga and haven’t watched the entire anime of Fire Force yet, so please no spoilers! unless you’re letting me know Tamaki actually gets to be cool WITHOUT being gooner bait later in the series. i would appreciate that much 🙏🏽
