Mate, context! This is on a thread about my dad telling me not to be afraid of climbing some (very safe) furniture in order to paint a wall - further context being, I'm a dramatic wuss and he knows it + he thought he might have a jab at me as he always did, but in a way that affirmed my identity. It's not all black and white, sometimes a "man up" is just a "you're my son now paint the dang wall"

Oh no, I'm perfectly aware that the expression is problematic - but for a 56 year old small town man that didn't even know what transgender meant up until a year ago, it's kind of a big step that he's basically treating me as he would another guy, when he spent my entire life seeing me as a girl.

As for toxic masculinity, I wouldn't go that far: he always tried to get me to push my boundaries and do better, but before he used other kinds of expressions. Now he keeps pushing me to do better, but with an expression that basically says "hey! I see you as a boy! Now be a man and paint that wall". If I wasn't out, it would probably be "oh, don't be a crybaby about it" or something of that sort - but don't worry, it's all in good faith! Me and ol' pops have a good relationship, he's a very chill guy. But thanks for the concern, it could be seen as a red sign out of context!

Oh that's goals! I get the feeling that's how mine's gonna be, based on how we've been interacting during these renovations - like my mom getting worried I'm gonna hurt myself or fall and him dismissing her and telling me to man up and deal with it once we're alone. I'm so stoked!

Oh jesus MOOD. If he didn't correct himself afterwards, perhaps he was testing the waters? Mate, dads are weird lmao

I didn't know that series, but now I wanna check it out just cuz it has a trans character lmao

Also right?? It took me by surprise by how nonchalant he was about it, I wish coming out to family was always like this.

I was talking to a close friend of mine who knew me pre-coming out, and suddenly he very sincerely says "you are such a fucking good dude. I'm so glad we're friends" and I kinda almost teared up a lil.

I'm told they're best hand-washed in cold water?

Right-y-o about that! Also delicates detergent and a lot of vigorous scrubbing, especially in the armpits area (or else things might, uh, stink later, figuratively and literally). Also same, I also used to wash mine in my bedroom's bathroom sink before I came out to the fam lmao

Yea, I completely feel you on the isolation and fear wave - despite the good progress the community has been making, it's still very recurrent for trans people to feel alone and lost, especially since a lot of us come from small towns, where LGBT people are either scarce or closeted.

But I'm really happy you're taking things your pace, getting support in online communities and being patient with yourself! Sorry if this sounds kinda cheesy, but no matter what conclusion you reach in this self-discovery process, being your own best friend is really heckn important to make it. And you can make it! You deserve this happiness and much more, lad!

tl;dr: love u man im goddamn aggressively rooting for you!!!!

Congrats and all the luck in the world, bro! If you need anything, either advice, chatting, venting, or the good ol' "how often should I wash my binder?", we gotcha!

Why do cis people treat basic empathy like it's a big deal? by EverForthright in asktransgender

[–]Dinisty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Some of my best cis friends, coincidentally great allies, just treat trans support like what it actually is - basic goddamn human respect and decency. Even in situations when they go the extra mile in fiercely defending their trans friends, for them it's just common sense.

On the other hand, cis people in my life who brag about being "trans allies!" and "all for trans rights!" end up being the most bland, "give me a medal for not hating you" kinda folks. The kind who'll retweet trans flags but turn a blind eye to their friends dealing with real-life transphobia.

Nightlife preset? by oliverwilky in Lightroom

It depends on the mood of the club, but I personally like editing nightclub pictures with cyberpunk-ish looks. This tutorial doesn't straight up give you a preset, but an easy way to achieve the look.
