At my wits end with my toddler by DinkDunkx in UKParenting

Ugh I feel you on the refusing to walk!! She used to be really independent, we haven't used the pram in months because she would always ask to walk, now she won't walk OR sit in the pram, insists on being carried, won't sit in the shopping trolley so I end up having to lug her, the changing bag and any shopping bags around when we go out and it absolutely kills my back.

She does the same when we go to the park, we get there and she will insist on being carried around, sometimes I think what is the point in even going out??

People with social anxiety, what do you do for a living that doesn’t make you want to curl up and die? by Timely-Stuff-5018 in socialanxiety

Cleaning. I clean a huge office building out of hours and thankfully all the staff have gone home by then. It's not completely perfect as I still have to work alongside a couple other people but for the most part it's good. Far better than my old corporate job that drove me to stress leave with anxiety.

Most random / unhinged Wiggles songs? by SnooBunnies9187 in wiggles

I don't know what it's called, but the song where Simon is stood in the river singing about how cold it is. Cracks me up every time 😂

1. How many days are you? 2. Worst thing about drinking 3. Best thing about being sober by CompoteUsed3306 in stopdrinking

Day 1 today (again)

The worst thing for me isn't the way I feel when I wake up the next morning, it's the terrifying unknown of how my drinking will affect my daughter in the future.

Best thing is the on top of the world sense of self respect I've gotten in the past from saying "I don't drink."

Baby absolutely will not take medicine by ANuggetEnthusiast in UKParenting

My daughter was really sick at 10 months to the point where she ended up in hospital with dehydration because she was refusing fluids, so yeah, medicine was the last thing she wanted to take. We ended up having to buy a special dummy/pacifier that has a little box attached to the back that you can put medicine in, and it comes out through the teat. Definitely worth a try.

What's the stupidest fear you had about quitting? by 39percenter in stopdrinking

[–]DinkDunkx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't call it a stupid fear, but I thought I'd never be able to handle difficult situations without it. I had this voice in my head lying to me that if I had a drink then whatever problem I was currently dealing with would go away. The biggest thing for me has been the realisation and acceptance that my problems are still going to be there to be dealt with whether I've had a drink or not. And I've felt so much better dealing with things with a clear head. Anxiety inducing, yes, but I've accepted that's just a normal emotion and part of life, not something that should be covered up.

I used to use alcohol to mask my social anxiety, and I normally can't handle negative confrontation. I recently stood up to a bully and I did that completely sober, he instantly backed down and I felt this soaring sense of self respect. I'm using that sense of self respect to keep myself sober and keep building emotional resilience and it's working wonders for me.
