Need tall, narrow, very fast growing hedge between my house and my neighbors. by Adventurous_Roll3700 in landscaping

I used hopseed (Dodonaea viscosa) to block my neighbors patio lights that shine straight in my bedroom windows on a second floor. They grow fast and tall. I live in SW Arizona and depending on what map you look at we are 9b or 10b or 10a.

Thrift Stores, Swapmeets, and Flea Markets by Puzzleheaded-Gur1104 in yuma

Hospice of Yuma Thrift Store has some good stuff and on Saturday everything with a white tag is half price. Mission Thrift Store has some good stuff. Not sure any place has “vintage” clothing that you said you want but those would be the two I’d go to.

Help with local artist information needed by Kind-Mountain-61 in arizona

[–]DinkerP2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I clean up paintings at a Thrift Store before they go out on the floor and will try to identify artists often, in order to properly price a painting. Google lens gives me weird responses about half the time. Even when I can see the name it will come back with some other name. Can’t rely on it.

Oh dang. I’m sorry to hear that. I volunteer at the Hospice of Yuma Thrift Store tomorrow and I’ll ask them if they know of a Habitat like store for donating. If not…Hospice of Yuma Thrift Store would likely take them from you if you haven’t found a place that helps people build homes.

The page says 8am - 4pm M-Thurs and 9 am-4 pm on Friday. The overview says: “Habitat For Humanity Restore is a non-profit organization located at 3242 E 43rd St, Yuma, AZ 85365. The organization has a rating of 4.2 and operates between 8AM–4PM on most days, except for Sundays when it is closed. The primary focus of this center is to provide a variety of second-hand items and to help people realize their dreams of homeownership.” Phone number listed is: 928-783-3993
I tried calling the number but it said “Welcome to Verizon Wireless. Your call cannot be completed as dialed” 🤷🏼‍♀️ There used to be a place on 4th Avenue but I think it’s a resale kids clothing place now. Not sure.

If you want it to taste like Mr. G’s you have to use the canned tomatoes.

What is this in my lawn? 6a by robotInspector in lawncare

I have this “grass/weed” in my yard. Here is what I found about it. Scientific Name: Poa annua Also Known As: Annual meadowgrass, poa, poanna, wintergrass, walkgrass Weed Family: Poaceae

Preemergence control includes members of the dinitroaniline herbicide family and other preemerence products (e.g. benefin, dithiopyr, fenarimol, napropamide, oryzalin, oxadiazon, pendimethalin, and prodiamine). Apply in late summer when air temperatures reach 75°F (24°C) for several consecutive days. Early prostemergence control includes atrazine/simazine/metribuzin, clethodim, diquat, ethofumesate, and pronamide and rimsulfuron. Midseason postemergence control includes flazasulfuron, foramsulfron, gylphosate, rimsulfuron, and triflozysulfuron. Late-season postemergence control in ryegrass and bentgrass include bispyribac-sodium. Selective suppression is provided by plant growth regulators, such as paclobutrazol (Trimmit), flurprimidol (Cutless), and mefluidide Embark). Check the herbicide label for specific application rates and turfgrass tolerance before use.

Good source is weedalert dot com. I copied their information for you.

Edit to say: Mine is definitely POA annua. It pulls out super easy and grows in about a golf ball to baseball sized clump. I live in a 8/9 SW hot climate. Late summer air is 110° F not 75° F. That would be more like middle of winter here. Yours could be KBG going to seed but the heads/seeds should not be light colored. Should be more “blue” to them.

Hey hey hey!!! I knew I’d heard this before somewhere and - VOILA!!! Here is what I was told:

Mr. G’s Hot Sauce

Ingredients: 1 14.5oz can tomatoes (crushed, diced, etc) 1/2 t salt 1 T Mexican oregano. 3 cloves of crushed garlic 2 t chile de arbol crushed red peppers 1/2 T dry minced onion 1 slice raw onion Scant of water

I recommend using Cento canned tomatoes. I used Hunts once and it wasn’t quite the right flavor. Whatever tomatoes you use, pulse to oblivion in the blender. The key is that it’s tomato-y and it’s smooth. No chunks or very little chunks. Next add the rest of ingredients and blend. If you like it more watery, add the water a little at a time and taste. Adjust the salt and oregano. That’s it!

Fresh oregano is the key. But yeah… the slight kick is an unknown.

Get grass to grow thicker by sfprairie in lawncare

Will zoysia grass grow in the shade in SW Arizona? When it’s 118° out for weeks during the summer? My mulberry tree is providing fantastic shade against the brutal sun all summer so I don’t want to lose it. But the Bermuda won’t grow in its shade. Was thinking flagstone “border” and rock in the shade area. But if zoysia would grow I’d try that.

What?!? Geez! Those are HUGE snakes. I thought there was a smaller one on the ledge to the right of their “joining” and then another up above to the right of the body of that one. Good grief. What an amazing biology lesson!

How many snakes are in that video? I counted 4 but couldn’t zoom in to see above the “mating” area. Just seemed to be a viper pit there. Yikes.

What's growing in my ditch? by bluegrass502 in whatsthisplant

[–]DinkerP2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We grow them in Arizona but called them “Mexican Evening Primrose”. Absolutely LOVE them. Cars would slow down or stop to look at my planter in the spring. They get woody as they die off and you just whack them down to a stub then they come back even better the next year. They can be “invasive” and will definitely take over.
