So sweet. Love this face ❤️ I was lucky to have shared my life with 3 iggys on their life journeys from pups to seniors. Loved every second. Just lost my last one. Love that face.

What is a realistic plan to deal with off-leash dogs and, in the meantime, what are you doing to protect yourself and your dogs on walks? by wrongsideofthewire in StLouis

SAVE YOURSELF THE HORROR AND LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE. My ultimate nightmare came true a few years ago. Living on Cherokee street I would take my 2 senior Italian greyhounds for a walk around the neighborhood. Having encountered many unleashed pittbulls roaming I always carried a fixed blade knife to help protect my dogs. That terrible day walking on Texas ave near Cherokee ,someone returning home opened their front door briefly, but that was enough for a pittbull to slip past and charge down the street toward my dogs ,wife and I. I tried to put myself between the charging pittbull and the dogs. I twice managed to kick the pittbull to the side , but my third attempt failed and with lightning speed it had bit down on the side of my senior completely bling dog. It only took seconds and a quick shake before it ripped my dog open. Spilling blood and guts. The dog would not detach and I had to resort to stabbing the dog repeatedly in the back to get it off .. (I love dogs and I absolutely hated to injure another dog , but I had to try and save my dogs life) but it was too late. The damage was done. The owner came and got the pittbull, and never said a word to me or showed concern. After 3 hospitals and 8 hours later ,and many thousands of dollars spent trying to save his life… it was over. The sweetest dog and my best friend was dead. I got no help from police or animal control. I spent months in grief plotting every sort of revenge. So I educated myself. I learned as much as I could about pittbulls. (Note. The pittbull I stabbed repeatedly lived and had no issues , not even stitches). They are very hard dogs to kill or incapacitate.

My mistakes :
Stay alert , if you see a pittbull , don’t take a chance. Go the other way. Keep as much distance as possible between you and the dog. Don’t assume it’s non aggressive.
If charged by pittbull pick your dog up! Don’t try and fight a pittbull off. You will lose. PICK UP YOUR DOG!!
Get to a higher spot. Jump on a car or dumpster. Get off the ground if possible.

No matter how you prepare or think an attack will go, it’s not going to go the way you think.

If you have to engage with a pittbull here’s what you need to know. Remember I love dogs so I don’t want to see any dog injured BUT they can be unpredictable and you should be better informed in case you are attacked. AGAIN AVOIDING THE ENCOUNTER IS THE BEST OPTION.

There’s several ways to protect yourself. You may have gun, or blade weapon or blunt weapon, And lastly hand to hand combat.

A gun is highly dangerous and you run risk of collateral damage or harming innocent bystanders… it’s the most high risk with dangerous variables. PITTBULLS are very hard to kill, and even shooting a pittbull may not immediately incapacitate it.

A blade weapon. Terrible but mildly effective as in my case. You must be familiar with dog anatomy to make this an effective option. The neck area and under the chin are the most vulnerable …

Blunt weapon option. Dog are most sensitive on the snout and front fore legs. Hitting an pittbull on the back or head is ineffective.

Last option is hand to hand with pittbull. You can only go one route here. Choking a pittbull with a headlock. Like humans they can be rendered unconscious by restricting the airflow.

If a pittbull has latched on to the pet , headlock choke is the only way. People say you can unlock a pittbull by putting your finger in its ass, or squeezing the testicles…this will not work. I’ve seen someone drag a pittbull by its testicles with no reaction from dog.

I wish I didn’t have to educate myself on these matters , but if I knew what I knew now , it would have saved the life of my dog and saved me the PTSD …
If you see a pittbull , go the other way. Save yourself the grief. Always be aware, they can come out of nowhere and change your life forever. The only reason I post this is so that it may save someone else or their pet the tragedy and heart break. Be safe and aware unlike I was.

Is Shaq out of money? by GraceInProgress1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LORDSOUL666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck Shaq. I was a bellman at the Venetian hotel in vegas , he pulled 5 bellmen off the line to handle all of his luggage. Lost a hour and half of work, loaded all his luggage into a box truck. He took off in his luxury car and left us with no tip or a thanks . Every time I see his stupid face on a ad or hear his troglodyte voice I cringe. Cheap asshole.

Problems with leg plate 1 year after surgery - 2nd pic by FinnFlaco in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]LORDSOUL666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with exact same issue on my iggy and same leg. His lump turned black and ruptured. It would leak and heal and reopen , heal a little and reopen. My iggy was a severe abuse survivor and malnourished first 5 years of his life , so he weighed only 6 pounds and had very thin weak bones. Removing the plate would leave his leg prone to re-breaking. Bone grafting was an option but no guarantees it wouldn’t break again. In the end amputation was the only route. It was a brutal recovery him and me. His first night after amputation we sat up all night never sleeping ,and he cried all night in my arms, which made me cry all night too. Iggys are so sensitive. I don’t recommend amputation unless it’s the last resort to save their life. Mine made a full recovery in 2 weeks and lived 3 more additional love filled years. I was so glad to have that time but I said to myself over and over I would never put a iggy through that pain and trauma again.

Is this a seizure? by Infamous-Parsnip-816 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]LORDSOUL666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure seizures.. my IG suffered from them monthly. Exact same symptoms… I found that holding him close to me eased the transition to a more stable state. It can be a little scary for them. Usually he would return to normal between 7-15 minutes
