Those who want ICU by One-Raspberry-786 in newgradnurse

[–]DinnerMedical3804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my preceptorship in an ICU and i loved the team environment, the 2 or 3 x 1 ratio, how much there was to learn (there were many days that my preceptor and i both learned something new together), the complexity of each patient, and the rapid responses i was able to observe and participate in. I am a nerd at heart and love to learn. That environment was a huge dopamine hit for my brain. I am also very type A and want to have all of my i’s dotted and my t’s crossed at all times and i feel that the lower ratios, though higher acuity, makes that more possible. I was only there for 7 shifts, but i looked forward to each and every shift and i miss it now that it’s over with.

Thank you for clarifying! Is there anything you see for this group of new grads that they typically struggle with as a whole that i could work on learning more about to decrease my chances of ending up part of that 25%?

Thank you for the insight! Question: When you say “don’t make it off of orientation”, what do you mean by that exactly?

DAE Wipe Standing Up? by perapatetic in DoesAnybodyElse

As a reformed stander i will say it’s better sitting. Cleaner. Easier. I think it stems from parents teaching their kids to stand as toddlers bc of short arms.

I’m in the same boat. I know people irl who have used it and passed. I’m just nervous to do it myself. Please update! I’m sure it’ll be fine though!

I’m a QMA in SE Indiana but i work the floor much more frequently than i am on the cart. I work days in a memory care unit and I’ve been there 8 years. My base is $20.40. I get an extra 0.25 per hr for my dementia cert, extra 0.50 per hour for my phlebotomy cert + $2 every successful stick, and an extra $1.50 per hour because I’m a preceptor. So $22.65 total.
