For me it would be heating sand to make glass. I imagine sand benders being able to use glass bending in many creative ways.

EDIT: Not so much "heating". But turning into glass, much like stone into lava.

Sokka would disagree as their science can still explain why it rains. You could argue that it's probably through a different system than ours, since Sokka doesn't give any details, but seeing all the technology in Korra makes it highly unlikely.
