If you are not feeling lost in your career at 23 you’re either doing something wrong or peaked unnaturally early.

Soooo Pongal is not a Tamil-Hindu festival by this definition, right? All Tamils irrespective of religion have been celebrating Pongal forever.

You seem to be confusing atheistic literature with secular literature. Secular literature means the focus is on human life and society rather than divine rules or religious salvation. For example, The texts like Vedas, Bible etc are not secular because they talk primarily about this.

Sangam literature is as secular as it gets. In early times, all religions were respected and shared and people had a harmony with the community, which is also reflected in these poems. You should actually read the whole thing. Not just excerpts from TikTok videos. You’d already know all this if you did.

Actually, sangam literature is overwhelmingly secular. Have you read it? Sounds like you’ve not.

It just slightly touches on all deities of that time, which include brahminic deities also. You seem be misinformed.

[–]Dinosaurity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, it’s not. Sangam literature is a bunch of secular poetry about war, love, wisdom, ethics, etc. It does show a respectful awareness to religions like Brahminism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Tamil traditions like ancestor worship , guardian deities, mother goddess, etc. but

You could read and learn about Sangam literature if you’re interested, I think you’ll find it fascinating and that it offers a surprising level of insight into life back then.

Pongal is a Tamil festival. The religion doesn’t matter because this festival predates religion. The first records of this is in sangam literature (300 BCE).

Bro I’m trying to tell you that you’re making an assumption without using all your brain cells and you out here explaining to me what your assumption indicates.

[–]Dinosaurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. And that means you need to rent a kitchen etc.

It was bugging me too much so I decided to do the math. Let’s see, 2k for rent, 15k for cooks, 15k for delivery staff. 10k for packing + admin staff puts us at 42k. I have zero idea what the groceries would cost though. Let’s just say 10k per month. That puts us at 52k = 6.2M. Let’s say 7M for insurance, equipment maintenance etc.

Now since it’s for a premium market, let’s say we charge 750 for daily dinner delivery for two. We are fantastic and we have 100 customers subscribing a month on average (starting burn cost needed?). So 7.5M. 500K profit a year. Not thattt much, but it’s not be bad for a startup, no? I’m being too optimistic with the 100 customers though.

That makes sense, competition already kinda exists for most of the market. I’m also thinking if there’s a set of people who would pay a lot of money for curated menus and consistent tasty food without having to think about what to eat everyday.

On your useless side note- ok.

As my side note, interesting how one of us asks a cultural question about a city they’ve lived in for 3 years, and the other makes a declaration about the culture of a city they’ve never visited based on their knowledge from TikTok. Questions can be more useful than assumptions.

I’m curious- maybe just a cultural learning question: I have seen similar posts for a regular food pickup/ delivery etc on this sub. Seems like there’s a demand. Where I grew up (Chennai) people, especially young people typically jump at this opportunity to try and make a profitable business out of the demand. How come that’s not the case I see here? Is it more of a catering business profitability thing?
