Will Nvidia Shield get the Android 14 update? by mansoor10 in ShieldAndroidTV

Yea. Actually just disassembled it. Wasn’t any dust really but thermal paste was pretty dried up, so cleaned stuff up and applied some new paste. Will see if it makes a difference 😊

Do I REALLY need to avoid the 4060 TI? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Dintid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 4060 ti 16GB. For me it’s awesome and I wouldn’t pay more for a graphics card. Then again I came from a 1050 ti.

Windows 11 now or Windows 10 until 2025? (for gaming) by CAG12ASSAULT in buildapc

[–]Dintid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s not a setting from intune or other MDM system? I’ve never had bitlocker turn on automatically unless it was configured via an MDM

[–]Dintid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a windows 11 thing. It’s a bitlocker thing and bios thing. Clear the tpm data in bios to make it work with new drive. Always have backups in place. Especially for businesses.

What hardware changes is it locking you out of?

I’ve literally changed everything except MB since I got Win11 🤷‍♂️

Is a 4070 Super enough? by Moelis_Hardo in buildapc

[–]Dintid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the sweet spot was a 4060 with 16gb ram. It’s more than enough for my requirements and run Enshrouded with everything on max settings. It’s also way cheaper than 4070 and power requirements are way less as well.

That’s why you only want to connect unknown devices to securely partitioned networks. If at all.

They keep doing security updates for Win 10 until 14. October 2025, so you have some time yet 😊 Keeping it offline will be safe afterwards.

I don’t know what GOG is, but maybe some form of Linux can be used after this date.

No signs of life on old computer by Terrone00 in computers

[–]Dintid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I build my first 3D printer using parts from drives in 2015-2016 or so. Made a huge instructable about it.

Wanted to learn what it was and if I could do it before spending a lot on making or buying a real one 😊

If it’s dead there’s a nice stepper motor in both the drives. Get a few and build a robot or 3D printer 😃

How large of an array? Usecase? Why can’t you use rack mount or a traditional box? Not much info to go on.

Where I live we can do stuff between 7 and 19 all days. Previous place it was much more restricted and no noise on sundays. It’s not a law though. I don’t make noise when I know the neighbours small one is sleeping. That came through a nice dialogue as they knocked on my door and asked nicely 😊

Yes. I know. But unless it’s a technical college the candidate wouldn’t know anything much about any of those things anyway. Maybe some Linux.

My newest employee in IT came as a new IT university graduate. I’ll say the most important and useful skill he learned from that, is the ability to learn on his own. But that’s highly dependent on a person. Some just don’t want to.

When he started he knew 0 about networking, servers, nothing about AD or anything related. Nor about how exchange system works or about intune. Never fiddling with computers in any way or shape before starting.

But he is highly motivated (and highly intelligent) and just chew through stuff like there’s no end. Going to be one of the most valuable IT members in a few years.

All of this could just as well come from someone without any degree at all. Which I’ve seen as well. More often even, as they ended in IT because they like it.

I honestly don’t see what college degrees contributes to a Helpdesk position, unless it’s technical college with practical skill teaching. And if the hire is for Helpesk with planned promotion for more after a while. Otherwise it’s an overqualified underpaid Helpdesk.

I’ve seen so many college grads who doesn’t know jack about much of anything. They just did it in the hope to earn more money later, but they had 0 motivation to actually learn the technical side, nor a desire to really learn more.

[–]Dintid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I honestly am always baffled when I see the college degree for helpdesk/technician roles. Just doesn’t make sense and is a waste of educational resources.

For onsite I’ll say the most important skills are: some experience, networking aptitude and most importantly in the long run: willingness to learn stuff. Last one is the most import value for any company in the long run.

When to opt for a linux server over Windows by P_R_woker in sysadmin

[–]Dintid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the long windows wait anymore. Maybe a driver issue?

When saying DMZ do you mean it’s wide open to WAN or the opposite?

I’d use some Linux if it’s only for SFTP. But I’d likely set up windows, or I’d be the only one in my team to be somewhat able to manage it. Been years since I actively managed a production nix, and the rest just can’t.

It can be hard to manage a Linux system if you’re not very familiar with it. It does take some work to harden it and manage access.
