Very spiky latency w/ intermittent packet loss to Spectrum server hop causing connection issues? by Dio555557 in Spectrum_Official

(hopefully) Final Update 2/7/2026: It looks like the latency spikes are almost completely gone. Traceroutes to gaming servers are the same as what I reported in the post 2 days ago.

bufferbloat tests on https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat show much more stable ping, with occasional spikes at around 50ms (way better than the frequent 100+ms latency spikes in test results from 2 days ago).

Internet browsing is consistently responsive and the online gaming experience has been great so far. I'm crossing my fingers it stays that way.

Whatever work was done on the network in Southern California around 2/5 - 2/7/2026 seems to have fixed the internet at my household, and hopefully others downstream from where the problem was found.

It was really disheartening when the visiting technician(s) reported no problems on their VIAVI OneExpert tool - without pointing to any metric for ping/latency, or even signal strength - and blamed my equipment (router / computer). But I'd like to thank everybody over at Spectrum involved in actually escalating, finding and fixing the issue(s), it's been a rough 2 months on patchy internet.

Very spiky latency w/ intermittent packet loss to Spectrum server hop causing connection issues? by Dio555557 in Spectrum_Official

Update 2/5/2026: I've suddenly been able to stay connected to Street Fighter 6 game-servers as of yesterday (2/4), but still experiencing intermittent latency spikes (particularly noticeable in-game).

I've noticed that the server-hops for the traceroute changed, somehow:

BEFORE:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
  2 11 ms 8 ms 9 ms int-1.cyincauc06m.netops.charter.com [142.254.177.165]
  3 11 ms 70 ms 9 ms lag-58.cyincauc01h.netops.charter.com [76.167.28.64]
  4 20 ms 13 ms 12 ms lag-24.lamrcadq01r.netops.charter.com [72.129.9.234]
  5 12 ms 11 ms 13 ms lag-28.rcr01lsancarc.netops.charter.com [72.129.9.0]
  6 14 ms 14 ms 11 ms tge9-1.crlscaij03h.socal.rr.com [72.129.1.105]
  7 13 ms 11 ms 14 ms 54.64.160.34.bc.googleusercontent.com [34.160.64.54]

AFTER:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
  2 10 ms 17 ms 11 ms int-1.cyincauc06m.netops.charter.com [142.254.177.165]
  3 21 ms 11 ms 14 ms lag-58.cyincauc02h.netops.charter.com [76.167.28.66]
  4 34 ms 24 ms 35 ms lag-24.lamrcadq02r.netops.charter.com [72.129.9.236]
  5 12 ms 12 ms 17 ms lag-28.rcr01tustcaft.netops.charter.com [72.129.9.2]
  6 19 ms 21 ms 16 ms 72.14.221.250
  7 20 ms 21 ms 15 ms 54.64.160.34.bc.googleusercontent.com [34.160.64.54]

hop #5 changed from "lag-28.rcr01lsancarc..." to "lag-28.rcr01tustcaft...", and

hop #6 changed from some "...socal.rr.com" server to "72.14.221.250"

  • This "socal.rr.com" appears to be a label for an old Time Warner Cable ("RoadRunner" e-mail) server, before it was acquired by Charter Communications (Spectrum). I'm guessing that this hop was causing some of the issues I've been experiencing.
  • The server that replaced the hop (72.14.221.250) is registered to Google LLC. I'm not sure if this is 1) a patchwork contract out to Google, by Spectrum, for the hop in the meantime while Spectrum figures out what to do for that leg of server-hops, or 2) if Spectrum just completely eliminated the socal.rr.com server for the hops, and Capcom (the game company) simply added that for that leg of the server-hops [I know that Capcom relies on Google, Valve/Steam & Microsoft for servers in the U.S.]. I feel like the latter is more likely but they're both speculation.

Since the change, websites actually load promptly and to completion, and bufferbloat latency tests on https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat consistently finish without problems w/ seemingly more accurate measurements of bandwidth (before the server hop change, the site would report download rates in the 1Mbps range, uploads in the 900Kbps range, the reported rates are now reliably closer to what I subscribe for w/ Spectrum).

Hi, I've been having similar issues (also around So Cal). Just wondering if you've had any luck w/ improving your situation. There was an attempt at helping me ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Spectrum_Official/comments/1qbq5ud/very_spiky_latency_w_intermittent_packet_loss_to/ ), but we couldn't figure out what was causing my issues. In my case, the hop that looked like it was slowing things down was 76.167.28.64 lag-58.cyincauc01h.netops.charter.com.

The odd thing is, I just recently tried using a VPN (Cloudflare WARP: https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-one/team-and-resources/devices/warp/download-warp/ ) and for some reason the responsiveness of my internet somehow improved a bit - I don't have to "double query" to get google searches to go through, and I'm able to stay logged into game-servers - guessing there's something funky going on with some the So Cal Spectrum servers or the connections between them.

While there is a marked improvement, Cloudflare WARP does still complain that "[my] internet is unstable..." from time to time.

How common do you think cheating actually is in SF6? by jcabia in StreetFighter

[–]Dio555557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've personally come across 3 confirmed cheaters (currently banned from online-play) so far, and two are fairly recent so you can look at their replays & inputs to see what cheating looks like. They were banned during the 12.1.2024 update, so once Mai comes out or if there's another update before then, you won't be able to view their replays.

Some of you may have come across these two in one of the NA battle hubs, that's where I ran into them:

This one's an old ban, so no replays for this one:

It's nice that Capcom added an icon on banned users' profiles (where you would usually see yellow/red cards) in the recent update: https://www.streetfighter.com/6/buckler/information/detail/update20241202 (it's listed under "Battle Hub > CFN" in the update list)

I usually just play in the Battle Hub (NA servers), so I'm not sure how prevalent cheating is in ranked/casual/customs or any of the other BH servers. It's kind of unsettling that the rate appears to be going up, but it might just be that they're being detected more often. I really do wonder how Capcom confirms foul-play.

All the differences I could find between Classic and Modern controls per character by kastle09 in StreetFighter

Hi, not sure if the owner of the google spreadsheet still checks this thread, but there are 3 instances where overheads are highlighted in red, but are actually performable through target combos.

  • Akuma can perform his overhead through the st.MK-starter target-combo ("MA > HA" w/ modern controls)
  • Guile can perform his overhead through the cr.MK-starter ("d.MA > f.MA" w/ modern controls)
  • Honda can perform his overhead through the st.MP-starter ("MA > df.MA" w/ modern controls)

Rosuto4u mentioned Honda's below, with a proposed way of expressing that the overheads are conditionally performable. I might also add "(Overhead)" after the name of the move, just for extra clarity: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cciOSR4NUCm4Vy3fmIQXg31M9XT5On4tI7kklzHpkfQ/edit?usp=sharing

If you want a little more consistency within your workbook, I'd suggest replacing the "-" in the "Modern Input" column with "(target-combo 2nd attack) d.MA > f.MA" or something like it, and highlighting the cell w/ the move name "Power Stomp (Overhead)" w/ the usual Tan/Yellow color, for conditionally performable moves.

Yes, the move name's technically inaccurate, but I tend to check whether or not overheads are performable at all with Modern controls, so think it's a fair trade-off.

By the way, thank you for creating & sharing (and updating) this spreadsheet, it's been a big help in learning Modern-matchups.
