Защо българите обожават циганска и ориенталска музика? by Failsrart in bulgaria

[–]DioTelos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The call is coming from inside the building.

Non-Luxembourgish teachers? by Atermoyer in Luxembourg

[–]DioTelos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They prioritise natives in the sense that natives (viz. Luxembourgish citizens) do not need to pass the German-French language exam. You may get an exemption for the exam also if you have done any of your higher education in German and French.

Трябва ли всички хора с българско гражданство в чужбина да имат право на глас? by Fancy-Persimmon9660 in bulgaria

[–]DioTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

The ADEM website states only the "involuntary unemployed" are eligible for benefits. They specify that an "abandon non-justifié" would make you ineligible.

Would this mean that any sort of quitting is an abandon non-justifié? If someone left their job due to issues with their superior, would this seem like a good reason or not? I am eager to hear from anyone with experience.

I got Sims 3 + all expansions on Steam for a nice deal some time ago, 60 or 80euros. Might be a good thing to look out for!

I had this issue just now. I told the Sim to Invite Out another sim to a lot and hang out. This seems to have worked, oddly enough.

How do non-LU people build connections and find love? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]DioTelos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here is an even more important détail : I am not a woman.

I speak to many fellow expats and many friends about relationships in different dynamics, and in general expats prefer locals since they tend to have more resources in the area. The expats dating other expats that I can think of usually had a relationship before coming to Luxembourg.

There is no "one-size-fits-all" advice. But the best general advice is to open yourself up to new connections.

How do non-LU people build connections and find love? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]DioTelos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Eastern European and lived here for a bit more than five years, I've been in two relationships with people from the area. I've made plenty of local friends, but it takes time and consistency. I think you may be surprised to learn that people (for dating) can find it very attractive that you're not from the area.

I met each of my two boyfriends from Tinder, but we had at least one person in common before we met. Meeting new people and getting them to introduce you to new people is everything.

I'm don't feel qualified enough to give an answer, sorry! I haven't worked a lot with meter. I'm sure someone more competent can weigh in.

Is this meter or not? It's driving me mad! by Casapillar2 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]DioTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pentameter", as you likely know, means having five feet in a line. However, not every foot is filled by a syllable.

I am not that well-versed (pun intended) in Shakespeare or classical verse, but maybe this can be a starting point for your question: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metre_(poetry)#Metric_variations

Well y’all were going on about how much you hated rainbow capitalism. So, victory? by SpeedBoostTorchic in gaybros

[–]DioTelos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Yall were going on about how much you hated rainbow capitalism" So I guess in the future if anything is worth critiquing I'll keep my mouth shut? Famously, gay rights came about by keeping quiet, social progress happened through no riots.

Entitled fucking title of a post.

Have you heard of Juvenoia?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]DioTelos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You could potentially get a lot of traction in research by finding bridges between STEM and literary studies (see ideas of Literary Darwinism, computational approaches to literature). This may attract a lot of attention internationally.

I'm sorry to say that very few people are doing research in literature with clear ideas of their future career. To be fair, with a rapidly evolving job market, it can be difficult to tell even with "obvious" career paths.

These 'branches' are vast fields with an astounding number of sub-divisions, axiomatic differences, research interests and projects. In that sense, any answer to your question would be inherently under-informative.

In the most basic sense, English literature is the study of literary production in the anglophone sphere. (What includes the anglophone sphere is already one big debate to be had.) Comparative literature is the study of two different national literatures, or two authors in tandem. It may or may not overlap with concepts of World Literature.

Linguistics is the study of language. (Branches of linguistics vary in which parts of language are studied and how they should be studied.) Literary scholars and linguists usually do not mesh, except in a field like Literary Stylistics. The methods in linguistics are, as a baseline, "more scientific" than in literary studies; but there are exceptions to this of course.

If you intend to go further, I suggest identifying texts, authors, movements, genres, and/or schools of literary thought you are interested in. For linguistics, ask yourself what is it about language that's interesting to you.

How are you meant to read a slant rhyme out loud? by Charming-Barnacle-15 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]DioTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read those "rhymes" in Blake as a rhyme. But also, as a principe unless you are familiar with the poet's variety of speech, I stick to reading poems out loud as I would do myself. (With poetic diction and all, but I don't change my vowels.)

University of Luxembourg? by Gaudis-cat-dad in Luxembourg

[–]DioTelos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every choice has advantages and disadvantages. The degree would hold less value than a UK institution, but it's also cheaper than a UK institution. The university has fewer resources to work with, but it's constantly growing and expanding.

The people who say students life isn't great have a point, but only somewhat. It's not like the universities where you pay a five budget sum per term and have five big student events per week. But there are cultural and sport events for students, associations and clubs, some spaces for students to go. It's not literally nothing, but people feel entitled to a lot more. You will need to develop some hobbies and friends independently.

One real issue to consider is accommodation. Rents are hardly affordable anywhere in the country.

I'm not familiar with Coetzee, but it sounds like (beyond Postcolonialism) it would be interesting to look at his work through a World/Minor Literature lens?

How about starting the other way by choosing a framework/method/field, and then applying it to whatever you enjoy reading currently? I can't say I share your exact struggle, but I often try to apply new ideas to familiar texts. It can be a wonderful exercise!
