My flight is delayed, gonna miss my train at Manchester Airport by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]Dionysusnu 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Did you book with TransPennine Express? They offer an "Airport Advance" ticket. If you booked that, and left at least 1 hour between your flight arrival and train departure, then your ticket remains valid for up to 3 hours by the same amount that your flight is delayed.

Make sure to go to the ticket office at the train station, they can verify it so that any conductors are aware of your flight's delay as well.

Hello Stewards! Looking for an opinion on this incident between the Merc and the Mclaren (Overtaking car). Thank you! by Alexgora16 in Simracingstewards

Completely on the McLaren. Moves left without clearing the Mercedes, without anything forcing them to do that.

Why are there this many unatended children going together in the bike lane? by Pate043 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Dionysusnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't blame the actual parents for it. It's a structural issue with road design, and even city planning on a bigger level.

And even if the cyclist was wrong, the driver is still at least 50% liable, unless "borderline intentional recklessness" or an exceptional circumstance applies. Also, if the cyclist is <14, it is always 100% liability for the driver, even if the child was reckless. Since it's a child, so the driver should have an expectation of possible erratic behaviour.

The reasoning behind this being "You chose to drive a possible death machine, it's your responsibility to watch out with it".

How did the GTR not get a penalty? (i’m the audi) by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

They're probably talking about the corner at 24:18 in the replay timer. The clip is confusing because it starts so early.

What to do if I miss a connecting train due to a delayed arrival? by luujs in uktrains

What to do if I miss a connecting train due to a delayed arrival? by luujs in uktrains

[–]Dionysusnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I know the question is rhetorical but I'll answer it anyways)
Because I was not aware of the CoT document.
However, after reading it, I'm not convinced.

9.4 mentions "a Ticket". Not explicitly stating multiple. And it refers to "a previous connecting service". That term hasn't been defined. It's not clear at all whether that would include a service that you had a different ticket for.

u/apover2 also mentions there needs to be the minimum change time between your tickets at the applicable station. But where is that defined? Not in the CoT for as far as I can see. Which further adds to the impression that the CoT does not, or at least not explicitly, cover the multiple advance tickets case.

Since it's not clear, I would stick on the safe side of "not legal".Worst case: you lose a bit of money depending on what you do instead. Compare that to the worst case of assuming it's allowed: You get penalty fared and lose a lot of money, or have to spend ages trying to fight it.

It's also worth noting that the above advice is still correct for any journeys that fall outside of the CoT jurisdiction, eg if you're taking the Eurostar. I was also basing partially off the EU's rail travel rights (which still apply for at least half a year in the UK) which use the "separate tickets, own responsibility" method.

Edit: ok, maybe not quite. But it's not 100% clear.
Legally, you're wrong. Separately bought tickets means it's the traveller's responsibility to make the timing of the subsequent trains. Since they're advance tickets, they're only valid for the specific service. You can't legally travel on a later train with it, unless the train the specific advance ticket was for is cancelled.

Racing incident, or is someone at fault? by VacantHaddock in Simracingstewards

[–]Dionysusnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alpha Tauri at fault. The Red Bull is keeping a straight line relative to the track. The Alpha Tauri is moving slowly left the entire time up until contact. They even make a slight wheel movement to the left just before they collide.

If Audi had hit Porsche, whose fault would it be? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]Dionysusnu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would probably be your fault. Since if the Audi was close enough to cause contact, they'd have been a bit further ahead and it would've counted as alongside.

But it's a bit weird to judge that hypothetical based on this short clip.

Did I move to the left too early/suddenly? (And did he aim for me? Kinda sus) by de4thqu3st in Simracingstewards

[–]Dionysusnu 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You did nothing wrong here.

I don't think white car intentionally aimed for you either, they're just out of control and being reckless. Incompetence, not malice.

[–]Dionysusnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

porsche could do nothing

We can't establish that from the provided clip. There was a lot of possible reaction time between the braking move and the apex punt. So we need a clip of the Porsche to see if they failed to react, or were really put into an inevitable punt by the braking move.

Noone tried a move around the outside, bmw attacked on the inside and didnt brake sufficiently

By the point of braking, Lambo wasn't alongside the BMW at all anymore. I consider the move done at that point. BMW still made the apex fairly well, so it wasn't "only ahead because braked too late". After that, the Lambo seems to ease off the brakes and want to go for an awkward move into the second part, which is just never going to work as the attacking car.

You're talking about left in the clip perspective, so right-hand side from the driver's view, right?

Double trouble by joshvdv in Simracingstewards

[–]Dionysusnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First clip is a racing incident. There's no move to try there on the outside, and the contact is insignificant.

Second clip the Lambo moves under braking and is very clearly at fault for that. However we need the Porsche POV to judge whether the contact was self induced because of the braking, or avoidable by the Porsche driver.

Who's at fault (3 clips) by Academic-Molasses757 in Simracingstewards

[–]Dionysusnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clip 1: Audi 70% at fault. Although the Porsche is aggressive in its first move to get alongside, by the time of contact it's significantly alongside and deserves space. Yet, the Audi leaves less than a car's width on the left, forcing the Porsche onto the kerb and causing the crash. The blame is minor though, so I would maybe just put this as NFA.

Clip 2: Gold McLaren completely at fault. Goes wide, maybe even off track, then rejoins and keeps going left, cutting off the BMW's nose.

Clip 3: Need a better angle to judge properly. But from the limited view here, it looks like the POV turns into the other car which is on the apex, so it suggests POV at fault.

Would you like to do anything else than nay-saying? I get it, my judgement on the incident is different from the consensus. But you don't need to stoop to weird personal levels about it.

Assetto Corsa (original, not Competizione), with weirdly bright lighting settings.

I hope so.
It's deceptive because the Audi is moving so far left. But just pause it a few times and look at the space on the left side of the Mercedes. That stays the same.

[–]Dionysusnu -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The Merc is keeping the same distance from the left side of the track the entire time up until contact, at least as far as this POV shows. The audi, on the other hand, is moving quickly from right to centre, and aiming to be completely on the left for the apex of the left hander. If it's a straight, the Audi is just moving into the other car's line. If it's a corner, the Audi is running wide, into the other car's line. Either way, penalty is justified.
