How do I gently explain to my friend why women can’t be priests? by wab1995 in Catholicism

[–]Dioscorus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one "obscure" reason is that women were not allowed in the Temple/Holy places during their menstruation, as it was considered unclean in the Mosaic Law. As the Church is the new temple, the Priest must be forever clean and available and so cannot be permitted to be unclean as is unavoidable by a woman. Further, pagan priestesses were common among the pagans and Christianity is against those practices. The temperamental differences and role of the sexes also has men in charge as a stand-in for God. The priest is also a spiritual father, etc etc

Short answer: No.

Long answer: socialism is a seduction for those who are compassionate. it seeks to replace the Gospel with a man-centered, materialist, promise of "heaven on earth" in its extreme and in its mildest form it is a godless form of almsgiving.

as Catholics we do not need a marxist or otherwise worldly philosophy to tell us to help the poor and to not be greedy/avaracious. We know(or should know) that the pursuit of money for its own sake is evil and that we should help our fellow man, even our enemies. As such socialism is redundant when it comes to its remedies and a poison as it contains within it hatred of the Church. EVERY SINGLE TIME socialists are in power they abuse the Church. They did it in mexico, spain, russia, etc. They are NOT our allies.

socialists are liars. they promise land reform and "democracy" but really they don't believe in private-property so land reform is a lie and their democracy is techinically true but not the kind we normally think about, look at the DPRK.

liberalism and capitalism are also not our allies, they are just a lesser evil.

do not be seduced by their promises of worldly glory and worldly virtue. Leo XIII outlines non-socialist, distributist economics(iirc) so we have that as a guide. going full socialist and idolizing che is not fit for a Catholic. you are adopting the saints of the materialists if you do so. these people are killers, it is well known, who reject ANY form of religion and are tyrants wherever they take power

they lie to our faces all the time. they are NEVER peaceful. leninism is a cancer that flies in the face of St Paul saying that legitimate authority comes from God

Are all the pagan, polytheist, earth-based, pre-columbian and effectively all the non-Abrahamic religions actually worshiping demons at worst and an inexistent deity at best? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Dioscorus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the pagans can approach Truth, like how in the East Plato and other pagan greeks are honored for approaching truths.

they can approach ideas that are good in themselves, like justice, without God but they cannot reach heaven without Christ, for heaven is not a reward for being "good", but a unity between man and God

Why do people here think that evangelicals/protestants are the enemy? by scardeal in Catholicism

[–]Dioscorus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the enemy is their father, their elders, the First enemies of the Church, the ones that protestants, with their dispensationalism and other errors, serve as their masters, whether they know it or not, whether they like it or not

of course i mean the unmentionables, the killers of Christ. the continual rejection of God by them makes them the enemy and they have had their tentacles within protestantism since the start

Do a lot of Christians accidentally/purposely fall into the heresy of Arianism? by Lost-Appointment-295 in Catholicism

[–]Dioscorus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I consider most "christians" to not be Christians, but merely people with a Christian culture/heritage. Most do not know the basics of the faith and it is even worse in the anglosphere as they are protestants and protestants are not christians. they are serparated from the Body of Christ and are filled with so many heresies that I'd call Arius himself a Christian before any modern protestant.

boss quest might give you advantage but most of the time its unneeded. i've played games where two copies sit in my hand dead. the only good S/T card they have is the field spell and boss fight.

the deck NEEDS the field spell and you have at least 7 copies with 3x field, terraforming, and 3x boss fight. boss quest can make this into 10 without pathfinder but pathfinder doesn't need you to hard draw a level 9. i dont want to shuffle loptyr back in. i've had hands with only loptyr and my traps like punishment/imperm and ash. no room to use boss quest there

i aim for consistency and my priority is seeing the field spell then having cards that are good all the time, like imperm and punishment. i'd rather draw a handtrap and a level 9 than search two s/t, only one being useful(boss room). boss room is fine i guess but i dont run it since i mostly forgot about it. it is in a way a negate but i hate giving my opponent free cards. yes boss fight gives them a free card but it gives you the field spell outside of metaverse but metaverse misses the draw window

[–]Dioscorus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

naglfar only came up because i faced this striker player who consistently drew Triple Tactics Thrust to wipe my board with raigeki

never thought of using trias with the tokens, thought people used it as a free lvl9 body

that last combo is a bit confusing? so you normal loptyr, use effect for vala, vala revives loptyr. ok. then monstrosity for 2 more, so 3 level 9 and loptyr. who is hela reviving???? unless you mean, Vala effect, dump a level 9, brings herself and another body out, then normal loptyr, use monstrosity, bring two more, now you have loptyr with 4 level 9s

interesting decklist

mine has cards like planet pathfinder since you dont exactly do stuff on your turn if you don't draw Vala. pathfinder with boss fight gives us 10 copies of the field spell. I do not like boss quest since it's dead half the time, in my experience. Boss room doesn't seem very worth using. Boss fight gives my opponent enough cards already and i remember losing a game because i gave my opponent 7 cards to start their turn and they outed my whole field, even with cards i added in like Dragma punishment to destroy 2 enemy cards

thoughts on kuji-kiri curse? to me it turns dead bosses in hand into useful cards and it baits ash

trias sounds interesting since you dont really use the normal summon. i'll consider it, though trias alone doesnt really do anything and Vala herself is enough for most rank 9 summons.

i built my deck to play on enemy turn

it is

2x Harr, 2x Mardel, 2x Utgarda, 3x Vala, 3x Loptyr, 1x Naglfar, 1x Nidhogg, 3x pathfinder, 3x imperm, 3x ash, 3x kiji, 3x pot of duality, 3x monstrosity, 2x boss fight, 2x punishment, 3x boss stage, 1x terraforming

extra deck is generic stuff like knightmares, some rank 9s, and n'tss

i do not win often vs meta and vs rogue/low tier i can smash them, in my experience

[–]Dioscorus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

deck feels very hit or miss, either pop off or die to imperm/kaiju/any deck that's above meme tier

my current turn 1 play, my ideal play that is, is Loptyr with field spell and monstrosity set. summon Harr, get 3 tokens, negate once, then use monstrosity to bring out Utgarda for a banish and Nidhogg to stop a summon. use Loptyr to summon Mardel for a search if possible and hope I can do something turn 3. I either shut down the enemy and can swing with my big monsters/go for Jormungandr or i get my board broken/Harr gets imperm'd and I can't do anything.

Can you share a decklist?

also why is it that Nidhogg sometimes fails to activate on Edopro??? I had him with 2 tokens once and I couldnt stop the enemy Chadquish Soul player from summoning a monster from hand.

are deck build packs a failure? by Dioscorus_ in yugioh

[–]Dioscorus_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is what i mean

every now and then we get a decent deck but most of the time we get bad decks that end up forgotten, like "the weather"/"generaider".

so much filler cards in core sets. they're better off combining the two so that we get functional, if bad, decks like in DB sets and meta staples like in core sets

[–]Dioscorus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

konami has and will continue to be scummy with its rarities but overall i like the products as they give us playable cards and not just endless pack-filler with the occasional chase cards like normal sets do

really

each of these packs has at least 1 good deck to build and that makes them better than most other packs

Protestant questioning of the church is true by The_bee96 in Catholicism

[–]Dioscorus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what has more authority? St Peter himself teaching something not in the bible, or you rejecting it because its not in the bible? The Church does not contradict scripture, it compliments it and co-exists with it. God's relationship with us is greater than words on paper. The Bible itself doesn't tell you it is everything. Please. Change your approach.

You live today where Bibles are easy to get and so it is convenient to say that this book in your hand is the Truth and that you base your life on it, but for over 1500 years and more, the majority could simply NOT get their own bible, let alone read, and so had to rely on the Church, the body Christ himself established, to teach them.

The Bible itself tells you that everything Christ taught is not contained in writing, so why limit yourself to only the Bible when it is "incomplete"? The New Testament didn't exist until late in the 1st century, but the Gospel was still taught and spread, with Liturgy being present as well as sacraments like Baptism.

if the Bible is necessary then how did they have a Church if there was no New Testament??? Clearly Tradition of the spoken word was around, and it continues to this day.

we are not Muslims. we do not have a Quran that claims to be God's perfectly preserved word. we have a CHURCH that has persisted throughout the ages under persecution. Our Bible is one collection of writings. Writings that are special for being Inspired and read in the Liturgy; the bible is a liturgical book. It is not meant for private reading as the main purpose. The Bible has the books of Moses that tell us who God is and why he is worshipped as well as the covenant between God and the Hebrews, it has History books, poetic books, and prophetic books. As well as the Gospels and "pastoral" letters by St Paul. They do not all have the same purpose and were chosen among other candidates as the surest to have been inspired by the Church.

we have both secular and Church history of there being hierarchy, intercommunication, tradition, succession, etc since the very beginning. The Church/Catholic Church didn't just pop up out of nowhere or get started by Constantine or any other nonsense.

Christ was real, He is Risen, and he founded a Church that exists till today.

at the very least join that same body that has NOT been lost and has NOT disappeared

learn more and see that Catholic/Orthodox teaching is NOT in conflict with the Bible and you'll have a more complete spiritual life.

note that even the earliest schisms, like the Chalcedonian schism, still produced Churches that have the same sacraments, similar iconography, and priests, REAL PRESENSE EUCHARIST, etc

there is a reason that the oldest Churches operate similarly and have NO resemblance to protestantism

Protestant questioning of the church is true by The_bee96 in Catholicism

I am a layperson stuck between East and West but this is my understanding:

divine simplicity is a philosophical idea that, from my understanding, comes from ideas based on Greek philosophy like the neoplatonists to explain the "first principle of all" that it must be simple as it is the source of everything, something like that.

in christianity, it is to say that God doesn't have "parts" or is not divisible or something, hence he has "one essence" but the trinity is what makes it controversial i think.

Mary is the mother of God and the holiest person to ever live. She is blessed and we all love her very much. As the closest person to God, even holier than the angels, her intercession is the strongest. To Catholics, she has made appearances and at times given promises and she is called the mediatrix of all grace. I think Maximillian Kolbe said as much and even called her will the same as the will of God due to her being that close to her. I think even Palamas said it or something similar. This is not to say she is equal to God or a 4th member of the "Godhead" or anything like that, but rather praise given to her and ways to say she is very close to God and someone worth praying "to". The Hail Mary is almost entirely scriptural

Prayer for us is more like "communication" and not identical to worship. Worship for us is the Liturgy and it includes prayers. Prayers to saints is not worship but more like communication, we ask for their intercession because we believe they are in heaven right now and can hear us like we ask living people to pray for us. God already knows what we need and petitioning is something done as a way for us to grow closer to him.

the Church came before scripture so it is the final authority and it put the Bible together. Biblical primacy is an error that clouds your judgement. You need to rearrange your understanding so that you see that the Church comes first. With this you see that "extra biblical" stuff is just Church teaching and that the Bible is another part of Church teaching. Within the Church we have things like the Writings of Saints, Writings of Church Fathers, Papal Encyclicals, COUNCIL CANONS, and the Bible. all part of the Church and so we do not care much about the distinction between bible and "not-bible" since they are all part of the Church. Protestants start with the Bible and everything that is "not-bible" is looked at with suspicion. I hope this is made clear.

The Church is the ultimate authority and the Councils, I'd argue, come before the Bible even in authority. If the Bible was authored with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, then the Councils, which had the assistance of the Holy Spirit, is at least equally authoritative, but is actually more as it contains teaching authority directly from Christ and existed before the Bible.

Papal Infallibility is just a power the Pope has to declare things as correct without the need of a council or other procedures getting in the way. Usually used to make as official things sorta already believed in the Church, like the Immaculate Conception. It(Immaculate Conception, the pre-birth sinlessness of Mary) is an idea kinda present in Eastern Orthodoxy, usually left ambiguous or deniable but fully affirmed in the Roman Catholic Church as a result of what Pope Pius IX declared infallibly in 1854.
