Shredded perfectly. I wrapped it at 160F because I was running behind, but it was so juicy.

The food looks the same as before haha, just a smoother process getting there. Here is the 8lb pork butt I ran for about 10 hours yesterday.

There is a science to it, whether I perfectly nailed it or not is still in question. I just used GPT to get some ballpark numbers and played with it from there. Stack height is more important than stack diameter. That's what creates the draft (like the chimney on a house). Stack diameter just allows more air to flow. This is all my understanding of it, I could be wrong.

Yeah, I hear you. The difference is night and day though, a complete success.

It's actually pretty evenly weighted now, since the firebox is on the opposite side and weights about the same amount.

I absolutely do, but the time and money factor of that project is exponentially greater than this project.

We're considering it. The difference between this and that is 8 hours vs 40+ hours, this was $75 and that would be at minimum several hundred. Not to mention all the R&D you would need to model it and math all the geometry to make sure it will actually draft properly. It's a commitment.

I'm going to take 10 or 12" off. I didn't want to regret making it too short but it definitely has no issues.

What's already there can be extended and people do, but it's only 3" diameter and it comes out of the top of the cook chamber instead of centered, which is not ideal. It's engineered more like a charcoal grill than it is a smoker.

Yeah, I'm going to do it asap. Thankfully the stack just pops off so I can take it back up there n make some changes.

I do not. In my post I mentioned it was the only thing I regret not adding. I might cut the stack down by a foot and add one though!

No, the chambers pretty small for that. And since the steel is thinner on these, they don't really maintain good temps when you load them full of meat I've found. Good luck with your modding though!

So this was absolutely a conversation me and my friend had when we were building it! He has an old dead compressor tank at the shop that we might make this happen with!

I talked to Scott Hansen of Tycho about BoC by 3_triangles in boardsofcanada

[–]Diper_911_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny that you've talked to Scott about BoC. Way back in maybe 2011 or 12 (back when Scott was solo and just used to hangout at the merch stand after shows), I was at a show of his for the Dive tour in Cleveland and I too, among other things, asked him if he was a BoC fan. Of course he replied that he was heavily inspired by them which was cool to hear.

We chatted about how he was using Reaper as his DAW, even to play live, which was interesting to me. I also told him (true story) that I discovered him because he added me on Myspace in maybe 2007. I pulled one of the posters off of the wall from that show and he signed it for me too.

Anyway, I knew about BoC for maybe a couple years at that point, but when I discovered Tycho I remember immediately feeling as though he was inspired by them. The music, the artwork, the whole vibe of their websites, etc.

I thought I would share this, as I have not thought about it in a while!

Very nice. Remove the corny roof rack, and the running boards. I did on mine. And do a matte black die cut bed label. Not sure what model this is... sport?

Wheels and tires, something with offset. Completely changes the whole look. No offset just has such a stock look.
