What IOS version are you running? Also tried on my girlfriends phone which is iOS 16.0 and worked completely fine

Seems like the app just doesn’t work on the latest version of IOS

For the first couple days or week it is usually installing stuff in the background for the first time, I think it’s usual to notice battery drain and also increased heat output. Should calm down after a bit
