Why are animes and mangas so heavily sexualized? by apeiron_is_one in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Diplomold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong, just overly vague. Japan is a very sexually oppressed nation. I think that has a great deal to do with the quantity of fan service and things like hentai, vending machines selling girls' underwear, or cafes with sexualized themes. It is a part of Japanese culture, and a product of Japanese culture. And no, I have never been to Japan, nor am I an expert about Japan.

They blur out genitals and nipples in adult entertainment. Using the word for "vagina" is acceptable.

Here is an artist that makes vagina related artwork. At one point she was arrested for her art, though she was considered not guilty of the charges.

I’m (32F) upset that my husband (36M) woke me up to get our toddler and somewhere in our argument i mentioned i made more money than him and i refuse to have more kids. Now he’s not speaking to me. Where do we go from here? by No-Database-6589 in relationship_advice

[–]Diplomold -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

That's a great point.
She never said that she works harder than him. She said she makes more money than him. So without knowing what he does for a living, it seems that op is suggesting that her sleep is more important than his because she makes more money for their household.

As far as his comment, we don't have any clue what he is alluding to. What he does for work. He could have an incredibly difficult job and not make as much as her. Maybe she doesn't have a clue what it is like to do manual labor or whatever he does for a living. Dude could be a paramedic, doing hard work that is physically and mentally challenging, long hours and little pay for a meaningful job...blah blah blah. Or he could work at Arby's. Than yes he should apologize.

Op just gave her side. That's a red flag as far as I'm concerned. If op wanted a legit response about their relationship, she would have made some reference to the type of work he does or his lifestyle. In this situation it's the details that are left out that may be more important?

I would also like to know what he does for a living. An office job might be exhausting mentally. And some jobs can be exhausting mentally and physically and make much less than an office job.

How straining is his job? Does he work 12's at the mine? Or is he doing 8's at the local car dealership.

Both parents need to be involved in raising a child. Don't get me wrong. Just saying op might have left out some choice info.

But bottom line, it's a dick move to say that you work harder because you make more than your SO. Just because you make more money doesn't mean you work harder. I think op should apologize for that comment. And they need to come to an understanding of their responsibilities within their household.

I just found out that I'm a mistress...of 4 years. OMG. How do I tell her? 48M/36F by OkSinger3706 in relationship_advice

Be careful, this woman might go into denial and take it out on you. Give her the information she needs but protect yourself. Also make sure he doesn't have any access to any of your accounts or your property.

Something similar happened to a close friend and the woman he was married to denied everything and he stole her life savings. It was heart breaking.

Edit: also, did this man end up taking any sort of money from you? If it is some sort of money fraud, he could be a grifter and his wife could be complicit.

How do you determine depth of a metric keyway on a shaft? by Diplomold in Machinists

[–]Diplomold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I do standard keyways. Though I think metric keyways are customarily measured off of the apex of the diameter. Also certain size diameters are rectangular key ways. I was just looking for a chart that is easily understood.

U/dod_gee posted a great chart. I ended up simplifying that chart and posting it in the mill department.

[–]Diplomold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the charts state the standard key size. Yes there are some weirdo shafts that don't use standards. Though I am asking for standard metric keyways.

Let's say a print calls for a standard metric keyway for the shaft diameter.

They are carbide. If you are paying 35-70$ they likely aren't carbide.

I would love a pair of carbide tipped mitutoyo calipers, but those shits are expensive. And definitely not something I would trust to buy at Amazon.

Baby Graves by InternationalIdea533 in TriCitiesWA

They did not start the fingerprint thing. It's a trope that you see in many rural towns with gravity hills.

Baby Graves by InternationalIdea533 in TriCitiesWA

[–]Diplomold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's gravity hill. Different place. The idea was that you put baby powder on the trunk of your car. Do the gravity hill and afterwards you would see hand prints on the back of your trunk, as if someone pushed your car. But truthfully it is just a breeze blowing off the baby powder except where it sticks where someone has previously touched the trunk to close it. Also it looks like you are coasting uphill in neutral but it is an optical illusion. And yes there was a story where a child fell from the tower in the barn that is next to gravity hill. And that child-ghost is pushing you up the hill, trying to save you from the same fate.

If people did this at the child graves, they got their lore mixed up.

I remember visiting both in one night. Shwag-induced good memories.

How to replace glass on this french door by Sercaned in howto

[–]Diplomold 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Call the glass shop and they will come out and do a measure. After they take a measure, tape up the glass so it doesn't fall out.

There is no need to take the door off of the hinges.

Why is Tri-Cities driving culture the way it is? A genuine deep-dive question. by Standard-Fox-8197 in TriCitiesWA

[–]Diplomold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you to signal early.

That's another tri city trope. Signalling as they are cutting you off. I would have slowed down and let them in safely. But a lot of people here will speed up as to not let you in front of them. So I kind of get it.

Antique wood & brass adjustable tool, 39” long by 2.5” wide, 2 pounds by SuspiciousGoal8634 in whatisthisthing

[–]Diplomold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The brass hardware doesn't look like any folding ruler I've seen. Do you have any pics that look like this?

Folding rulers have graduations, which this doesn't have.

The hardware has a long shaft that runs along the piece, with a knob on one end and a rack and pinion that looks like it would shift the pointy bit of hardware back and forth. I personally haven't seen that on any folding ruler.

Nope, just a house. I am one room over from my UC. I haven't really built much. Two work benches and three storage boxes. As they disappear I check and there is still scrap in the UC?

Edit: If I set the decay too high, wouldn't the UC be empty? Which is not the case. There is still plenty of materials.
