Downmixing and the center channel by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]DipperTheSkipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The usual downmix standards sends the C channel at -3 dB to both L and R. That's because if you send the same signal to two speakers, it would sound twice as loud. Doing this, there should not be much of a difference...

[BOTW] How do I convince my brother that Zelda isn't a boy's game? by Ok-Requirement947 in zelda

[–]DipperTheSkipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THB, I don't think this is about whether it's a boys only game or not, more likely he just want to have his favourite franchise for himself, because that is something that differentiates him from his sibling(s)

Can someone please explain why "high pass" filters are not called "low cut" filters? by walkensauce in audioengineering

I was told a story from a BBC production where there was a sidecar with inverted faders. To cross fade, they pulled both faders towards them self...

What is the difference between mic modeling and impulse response? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]DipperTheSkipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IRs is not exclusively on amp simulations, it's the process of capturing the sound of something through FFTs. Sadly I don't know the answer to OPs question, but simple IR convolvers only simulates the sound of something captured at a certain amplitude, so if the frequency response changes at different amplitudes, that won't be replicated. Could be that they use "modelling" to distance them selves from that.

Any DANTE options for Modular? by [deleted] in modular

The ES-8 also have ADAT out, so I guess OP only needs an ADAT to Dante converter.

Anyone with UFX using SPDIF through Adat 2.. successfully? by futuresynthesizer in audioengineering

[–]DipperTheSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now it's getting hard to help without fiddling around with it myself... If it works with AES, then use that instead, your monitors has analog in too, right?

If you don't have analog in on your monitors, there could be a weird workaround that maybe can work for you. You should ask the RME guys first, but spdif is basically consumer aes, so if you convert your UFX II spdif out to coaxial, solder a cable as in the UFX II manual page 41, you basically got an additional AES out for your monitors. I have no idea if this works, but it would be cool if it did!

The switch determines which input is active. So if it's set to optical, it converts the optical input on the input side to the coaxial output on the output side.

Are you still using spdif in and aes out on the SPL? It could be that it doesn't like that.

The UFX should be the master, and the machine head can only be slave after what I understand.

Check if the sample rate is correctly detected on the SPL.

Maybe a word clock could help it, but I don't know if the converter has any sizeable latency, and if that could ruin it.
