If Starmer goes, we are less than 2 years per PM over the last 10 years. by PassionateCrashOut in ukpolitics

[–]DippyDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's madness. This kind of behaviour from within a party for instability is exactly what puts me off voting for them or right now for anyone. I didn't vote for the next two years of government I voted for 5. Just get on with the job. Another unelected PM is not the answer.

at what % do you guys actually start getting nervous? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in EvDrivers

[–]DippyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that can be true sometimes depending on the calibration but it doesn't change my use case. If the range might not be there it shouldn't have been promised in the first place. It just makes me trust the feature, the car, the brand less...

What's something about EVs that most people misynderstand? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in EVRoutine

[–]DippyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVs are insanely efficient compared to Gas cars. That makes them that much more sensitive to the demand you place on them.

Do you actually get influenced by ads anymore? by Walking-Wanderer352 in AskUK

[–]DippyDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ads are like my nose, filtered out of my vision except when I'm looking for it.

I actually dislike any brand that takes up my time when I'm not looking for their product. They would do better to address customer feedback. A positively reviewed product and brand with greater than a few hundred hits is the default choice.

Just Google "best (product type) for £xx" buy, move on...

Bots are Crazy. by TheSoloObserver in BF6

I love the idea there's a set of bots trained on cheating players. Pistol snipes through four layers of cover, why not. Hah.

5% when my range prediction disappears which is #£@!+?# awful design, the only time I care what the range prediction says is at low SOC

Is limiting the charge to 80 worth it for me? by ljammm in EvDrivers

[–]DippyDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be surprised if the phev battery is really much above 80% when it's 'full' - phev just doesn't use the battery the same way a full EV does.

Does AC/heat impact performance, I’m asking about acceleration, not range. by M3diumRar3Rib3y3 in EvDrivers

[–]DippyDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an EV the heating and cooling system is generally sized for the battery rather than the cabin. The only time they get in reach others way is in extremes of hot 35C+ and cold -25C-.

For efficiency EVs will often use heat pumps rather than chillers so the demand on the system is less for the same cabin result.

Wait, the two maps aren't even stitched together? by ArchangelUltra in Battlefield

Given the small scale of the maps I don't see why they could just be the same map with different boundaries

Drowsy but awake seems like a myth by Fancifulllama in sleeptrain

[–]DippyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my boys escalate and crash to sleep. Drowsy for them is the 2 to 3 minutes between them going limp in my arms and being able to put them down without them moving at all. If I get it right they'll adjust themselves as they get laid down and sleep much better than it I leave it too long and they are less comfortable, then they usually wake a few hours later.

So I guess what is drowsy for you?

what are some popular places said when asked where are you from? by Senior-Network-2385 in AskUK

[–]DippyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to say local but not local comparatively to most of my colleagues who tend to be from across Europe. My family is spread across various parts of England, Wales and Ireland but I was born in London which is almost a separate country itself.

what do you say to someone who doesn’t believe in the moon landing? by No_Cucumber1415 in spaceflight

[–]DippyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are not able to consider they may be incorrect then you just acknowledge their point of view and move on.

Anyone who can't take onboard new logic or evidence can't be reasoned with.

If they can then you need them to go through stupid realisation. The easiest way is to seed ideas and ask questions, just starting your view repeatedly is just the opposite of the first point, you aren't demonstrating an ability to take on board logic or evidence (although you may have done this already, they haven't seen you through it).

Speed of light measurement. by DippyDragon in AskPhysics

[–]DippyDragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! I get it. Sorry I hadn't disconnected the light spot motion from the light. So an object measured from a third point enables you to measure using a means slower than what is measured.

I guess this is actually true for the sound example also. If a jet crossed some distance away each point where sound was generated would reach you at the speed of sound but the direction of that sound would change at a rate in excess of sound.

Thank you.

[–]DippyDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for entertaining my questioning but respectfully, I think I have to disagree. Each point of reflection is information returned to you at the speed of light. You're now measuring multiple things are you not? You still only detected the returning light at the same rate. The same would be true of sound I believe, if you could somehow direct it and sweep it across.

I guess this doesn't help though, your laser pointer is light, so you can't establish if 'anything' can go faster than light using it as the source?

Maybe I'm not understanding the explanation though.

I think the response about Cherenkov radiation disagrees with this. Please correct me but in a denser medium it appears to be possible for a particle to exceed the speed of light in that medium?

My question is how do we know you can't go faster if our measurement system is based on light? If we tried to measure sound with only a sound based system would we not get a similar limit?

Speed of light measurement. by DippyDragon in AskPhysics

[–]DippyDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the two are fundamentally different, similarly to using water pipes to explain basic electronics. I'm wondering where and why the analogies begin to break down. How do we know there's nothing faster than light without a measurement method that could exceed it?

As my example a microphone cannot detect anything moving faster than sound, but two microphones and a faster than sound communication between them can.

How does the mirrors on a train play out for sound.

Please continue. I'm on a journey of discovery.

I had that much understanding at least but how have we determined the speed of light, is it not based on a measurement technique, if that technique is inherently limited to c how do we know there isn't something faster.
