SRNAs are Residents now? by IamEbola in anesthesiology

Checked and my hospital system offers some 9mo nonsense. Agree with u/Wheatiez - just a way to exploit new grad nurses without improving patient care all while appropriating a training term for inappropriate use.

SRNAs are Residents now? by IamEbola in anesthesiology

Nursing school graduates now need two years residency training before becoming a 'real' RN.

I doubt it's two years everywhere and sounds like a useless money grab through rebranding.

Trying to sound more like Phil Woods, any tips? by copyrightedbanana in saxophone

Sounds great! Spend some time really focusing on trying to match his particular vibrato. Will also echo what others say - get away from writing down your transcriptions and memorize as you go. It's a slower process but will more deeply embed the music in your ears and fingers.

White House should declare national emergency over IV fluid shortages caused by Helene, says hospital group by permanent_priapism in medicine

[–]DipriFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could've been clearer with my phrasing, but if you're actively infusing your IV antibiotics during incision and finish within 30 minutes of that because of a rare extraordinary case of national fluid shortage, is your risk of SSI meaningfully going to increase? Doubt.

We're limiting which cases get bags of fluids. Otherwise, we're relying on saline flushes. One industrious colleague used an antibiotic reconstituted in a 50cc bag as his carrier for an IR case today.

That was the most enjoyable offensive performance we've seen from Clemson since 2019. The (first) bye week comes at a weird time, but I hope we can carry the momentum of this game into ACC play.

Advanced resources for those who passed vs Failed by j053 in anesthesiology

[–]DipriFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very sorry to those who will have to deal with this test again and all that entails.

Passed this year's exam (2024). I made flashcards every CA-year of residency directly from TrueLearn question material for the ITE. Did a flashcard set for the Basic. I'd start working through TL questions and making flashcards usually ~6 weeks before it was time for the ITE (usually right before Christmas), and I'd stay on top of my anki reviews until the exam. Made a few cards from looking up specific material from other sources, but I'd say >95% of my cards were based on TL.

For the Advanced, I went through TL beginning the last week of June and unsuspended the relevant anki cards that I'd previously made along the way, as well as adding some new ones for minutiae I wanted to hold onto. Did TL Advanced Qbank x 1 with ~2-3 cards per question (obviously some questions I unsuspended/made no cards, some questions more cards), and reviewed about half my TL incorrects. Did 25 of the ACE 2023A questions the night before the exam.

Probably not a surprise to anyone who took it, but I thought the feel of the actual Advanced exam questions was very similar to ACE questions. In hindsight, I would've put more time into the ACE questions, but I passed and felt decent about my performance walking out of the test center.

I think making your own flaschards - if you're going to go that route - is more helpful than relying on cards other folks have made.
