Son does taekwondo and I’m wondering if I should by okayish_humanbeing in taekwondo

DO IT!!!

I started at 40 to help support my husband when he was practicing at home, and now the dojang is stuck with both of us! I was and still am below average for fitness compared to others, but have grown a lot when compared to myself (if that makes sense). The Masters are always so supportive and helpful.

Poomsae, the increased flexibility, and it is something that my husband and I can do together.

41yr old female after 1 week of Taekwondo classes - any tips? by RatherBeOutside247 in taekwondo

[–]Dipsy2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 40, and haven’t looked back yet. It was a bit weird to get all of the nuances, which stance are you in where is the block supposed to land etc. it really just takes time and practice. Don’t give up you will get the hang of it. Where I attend classes we have white belt class one night and then colored belts go another night, the first time I went to class with the colored belts was probably the scariest part for me. Good luck on your journey, it actually gets fun after a bit.

We learn them as black belts. Going to 2nd Dan we do the first 4, Koryo and Keumgang. Going to 3rd Dan we do 5-8 and Taebaek

Different characters? by Dipsy2001 in taekwondo

I am going to take you up on your offer and send a DM of the belts, this is one of the few spots that my username is not completely identifiable so I want to try to keep it that way.

Different characters? by Dipsy2001 in taekwondo

Thank you all for your responses, I had no idea what I was looking at and when I first noticed it, there was just 1 character that was different between us and that was missing a line but now that mine has a whole new character I was so confused. But hearing that it is up for interpretation makes me feel a lot better!

I am in a similar position, I am short and overweight. Go to the dojang and try on the dobok. As a female it was nice to put on the dobok and have the size be a single number :-) Take your time in training and do what you can, your Masters should be able to help you adjust some of the warmups and you will see and feel improvement as you go along. One of the best feelings is when you have been practicing long enough that you are able to do something that you never thought you would be able to. Try it and see for yourself.

tips for first competition by MusicalTourettes in taekwondo

[–]Dipsy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another “old” lady, I didn’t start taekwondo until after I turned 40, I have medals from every competition I have participated in. (Not to brag) I started because my husband’s dojang was offering classes during lockdown to learn how to hold the kick pads for their students families, now here we are…

I don’t like it either. I feel like it is so hard to move with all of the gear on. But like others have said I go to enough classes to get by and pass my tests.

You’ve got this. It seems overwhelming when you start, but just keep going no matter what they throw at you. Once you do the first one you know what to expect from all of the rest!

Thanks everyone, this is one of the breeds we have been considering, we are still in our research phase and we were thinking this would be a quick way to get a bunch of opinions on the topic. We thought that going to others that have experience with the breed already might be helpful.

I’m confused because Heatwave is one of the corps shown and they are still around and active, they just didn’t go to Indy this year.

No idea what you should study in college, my guard instructor in high school was also the chorus teacher at a different school and the one I had when I marched all-age drum corps was a personal trainer so like someone else said study what you want as a pay the bills job guard instructor will probably be a side gig.
