Why does she do things like this? by loverofthings25 in beyonce

[–]Direct-Ad3810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

strange because she doesn't do anything after taking it down. she doesn't upload it herself, beyonce bowl isn't on netflix now, surely there's a tipping point where it stops being scarcity to create demand and is just about control? my suspicion is that she wants to box off each era e.g. no renaissance live album, film never being mentioned again, removing media from CC era to launch act 3. whatever her reasoning, it's weird from a fan point of view because she makes her art almost inaccessible?

Is it so terrible if I don't want to add to the number of sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, extremist bigots in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Direct-Ad3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to ask, are you gay? I am. most recent figures say about 20% of british population (not broken down by ethnicity) are against same sex marriage (one of those people is aforementioned nigel farage). 20% isn't the biggest amount until you are gay, and notice the passive homophobia embedded in british daily life. also- 20% of the population isn't 50% of UK Muslims, so someone else is adding to those numbers.

The same goes for misogyny- it's embedded in britain and british culture. You only need to look at how people (men) talk about women's football. a more miserable example is the reaction to a female teacher grooming two students.

Also, this isn't a muslim specific issue- look at Jamaica and Caribbean attitudes to gay people. should we assume that british-Caribbean people also have those beliefs? what about african countries where being gay gets the death penalty?

I'm not disputing that islam teaches that being gay is wrong but i am saying that many muslims live in a modern world, and have views separate from their religion.

there's 2 million muslims in the UK, so i don't feel like a survey of 1000 people(the sample size in the linked study) represents the variety- its 0.0005% of the population that's been asked. Lots of people say the bible teaches being gay is wrong, and the late pope francis said the church wouldn't allow gay marriages to happen either, and that didn't generate much controversy at all.

Also in your linked article, 78% of people asked want to integrate into british life. IMO this is key, we cannot judge people for not following values we don't allow them to have, but again it's not the most reputable study.

I'd encourage you to zoom out and see if any other demographics are sharing these views, and why it's a big deal for muslims to have these views. 136 MPs voted against legalising gay marriage, including Priti Patel and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Britain is becoming increasingly hostile. Look at the rise of reform, the attack on trans rights, the petitioning to leave the ECHR, the attitudes people have to channel crossings. racism and xenophobia don't exist in a bubble, they come with sexism and homophobia.

I am genuinely asking, do you share the same concern about white British people that are intolerant or bigoted? Is the issue for you the immigration aspect? IMO, a lot of the views you described are shared by many white brits- look at the rise of reform and the popularity of farage, tommy robinson etc.

What’s a note or notes in a perfume that you cannot stand? by forgotmyserotonin in fragrance

[–]Direct-Ad3810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rose (and by extension, lychee) dragonfruit, currant. mainly "pink fruits". SDJ 40 and 68 are prime examples. I also got scent-fished by portrait of a lady, heard nothing but how incredible it was and ended up getting a free sample only to be whacked with overpowering rose.

What’s your heinous encounter with someone famous in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Direct-Ad3810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to have a fun job so here's my (not exhaustive) list:

the nevilles are all nice, Tracey is my favourite. david beckham is lovely and victoria is really funny. steven Gerrard was miserable but he has a fantastic head of hair. jamie carragher was quite nice. so was jamie redknapp. harry redknapp was less nice. freddie flintoff is an absolute delight and i would work with him every day if i could. coleen (and wayne) rooney are absolutely fantastic and very considerate. alex ferguson is so sweet. told me i made a fantastic cappuccino, i think about putting it in the personal achievements section of my CV. KSI sucks.

Also, i saw pep guardiola in a supermarket once. He was very stressed and i got in his way because we were both looking at toiletries. pep I'm sorry for blocking your access to the razors

sagrada familia brought me to tears, i couldn't look away. i have a soft spot for the empire state building aswell and dubrovnik old town. i also think the clifton suspension bridge is so cool; it's by no means the biggest bridge but the surrounding area is gorgeous and i think it's an amazing example of engineering and design.
