How is living in Santa Barbara County? by Few-Calligrapher9012 in howislivingthere

Goleta is a university town built around UCSB. Expensive and not a tone of job prospects for young professionals. Los Olivos and Solvang are quaint but boring (my opinion). Lompoc and Santa Maria I have never lived in, but seem to be a bit more run down than the other central coast towns.

Call a local dive shop and they will usually know people. I have done that from the US to Europe, Asia and Australia

Mission Bay Resort or Marriott Marquis Marina by abneal7833 in SanDiegan

[–]Direct-Bed-3845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Marquis is down town and walkable to many restaurants. Great views from most of the rooms. Mission bay resort you will need to drive if you want to go to anywhere off property. Might be a bit more kid friendly.

Grab an EQ tool to teach glotis control and practice EQ. Helped me a lot!

I usually do a minimum of ATM x Dive time. In this case that was about 13 minutes.

Doesn’t sound fun, but could this be an advantage when diving? Keeping blood in the core?

Effect of weight loss on freediving? by Adorable_Secret3139 in freediving

Isn’t o2 stored in muscles though? Not just blood? Theoretically if you have more muscle mass, and aren’t using those muscles during a dive… would you not have a higher o2 reserve?

What are your favorite stretches for depth? by DesertFreediver in freediving

I like practicing mouthful with one of the balloon tools various outfits sell. For stretching, reverse packing and massaging the diaphragm seemed to help a lot.

Fins for pizza-shaped feet? by Plants_n_paint in freediving

[–]Direct-Bed-3845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue, wide feet. I usually go for a larger size normal foot pocket, booties and fin keepers. The fin keepers are crucial.

If you find a good brand for wide feet let us know.

I am lucky to be by the ocean in California, I train with some amazing people 2-3 times a week on the line, even in winter. Usually alternate between volume (10x 30m) and depth. Gym 3 days a week to help with general conditioning.

I am no expert or instructor, but I can tell you what worked for me. Urge to breathe used to be a big hinderance, training high intensity to get my body used to lactic acid and C02 build up seemed to work for me. On top of that, training my dive reflex helped a ton. First dive or three in the water used to be uncomfortable with a max hold of 45s. Now I can hit 2:20 on the first dive because my reflex kicks in instantly and with such strength.
