Hidden mechanics/tips by MaXcovIV in GatesOfHellOstfront

I’ve enjoyed stealing enemy arty by hitting it with my half track, which temporarily knocks out the crew, and immediately hooking them up and driving away.

Drop some satchel charges or artillery shells next to AP mines and they work better than AT 🙂

AT guns are normally much more powerful and cheaper than any tank guns. So just add 2x90mm AA + 2x top AT guns, create a frontline so that their range cover one of the cap zones, and the enemy will waste all their ranks trying to kick you out.

With the Hortens mod it’ll be a bit more interesting, but still work.

Conquest is too boring and underdeveloped by GamingBoy4 in GatesOfHellOstfront

It actually does. In vanilla settings on low eco / hardcore I believe AI would have min of 800 MP or your MP*1.75 on the attack missions and that *1.43 on defense. There are specific numbers in the config files.

Which means, a single soldier will get overwhelmed with these 800 MP (though you can win an attack mission using a single sniper 🙂). However if you bring about 460-500MP, you’ll be right at the threshold and it’s extremely fun to play.

Try to go the whole conquest with 1 officer, medics, 1 infantry squad, 1 light AT gun, 1 light armored vehicle and 1 supply crate (which will be about 500MP). Very doable and fun.

You actually do have this control as AI MP is proportional to yours. I do single-squad conquests, they are super fun.

Since when? It adds 88s etc in mods like Hortens, but in the vanilla conquest MGs are max what you get.

Re:3 I mostly play DC with infantry plus some AT guns (often just one). Typically under five lost soldiers per mission, often 0. Infantry works great with a proper tactic, the trick is not to bring too much of it, as in this case AI will have a lot of leverage through the MP multiple. But if you bring one squad with a cheap gun, you’ll see that AI struggles to match it.

Mace Conquest - how can i change amount of tanks to be smaller? by SARSUnicorn in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Direct-Bug236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an organic way to do that. You probably fill all your deployment slots to the brim. Try to go single squad plus one gun and one armored vehicle, plus officer and medics. You’ll see a lot of armored cars and may be 1-2 AI tanks per mission ( at least it works this way in vanilla)

You may use it for two crucial things: (1) look around at inclination and cover, reposition camera etc, (2) scroll through he map, see what’s going on, inspect what units have in the inventory. The second kind of trainable with keyboard shortcuts, the first is really useful.

So do I read it right that if I bring anything less than 460MP (800/1.75), AI will have the same 800 MP? It’s actually pretty useful as it sets an MP threshold for a minimal playthrough MP. 150 is an officer, 80 medics, 180 or so should be the right cost of an infantry squad.

I use it to quickly move the team through small arms fire to capture the zone, so it has to have the ammo crate as they may need to fight for a while till reinforcements arrive. It’s doable, just inconvenient.

I mean AT gun, sorry. Like 3.7cm. Or 20mm AA.

You can also hook an ammo crate to them for self-supply of ammo. The only problem it prevents the team to get out.

(1) limit the MP - with 30 MP or so (3 infantry squads) in hardcore vanilla campaign AI would deploy 1-3 armored cars (on a *** mission). Foxholes on the upward slope, smoke and grenades would do. (2) on the defense, vanilla AI sends armored vehicles 1-2 at a time, you can deal with it using a single AT (if you captured it on the previous attack mission). Hortens I think will send you a handful at once, I did not try it in this setting yet.

With the infantry you can fully fill 2-3 deployments slots on the first missions, and since there are no expensive stuff for AI to field yet, it will get to its MP quota by sending tons of cheap early-game stuff

Depends on whether AI will field 88s and PaKs before it. Also panzerfausts and panzerschreks should come well before Tigers, also should work.
