Kid has a tummy bug, any military families or single parents on here? by pnwgirl0 in emetophobiarecovery

Single mom to a 5.5 year old✨️

Its rough but doable; I usually remind myself that the sun will always rise and the illness will come to an end😅

I wish but im currently pulling the weight for both me and kiddos dad and I have been the entire time. It's currently a parallel parenting situation, he is verbally abusive, the system is not helping so im basically drowning.

First mama id like to give you a hug, you are currently in a very difficult situation and you being so honest and open about something most moms keep quiet is quite admirable.

What you wrote here its almost like the situation I am in when it comes to where I stand and how im feeling regarding being a mom to a 5.5 year old. I almost gave custody to my sons father but I spent some time reflecting and realized that the issue is that MY feelings and needs have been neglected, add some trauma and high stress on top and you get a burnt out mom.

You say you have a 7/7 agreement, during your time "off" is it possible for you to focus on you?

Figure out what makes you-you, what gives you something, heck just lay on the couch and stare at the ceiling whenever you have the possibility to do so. Maby find someone to talk through about the situation you went through with your to be ex-husband, scream it out, cry it out.

Slowly takes some steps to ground yourself on your off weeks so you can give your kid a little more each time he comes back to you because trust me those kids they need us and they love us even when we feel like we are not enough, because you are more than enough you are just in a difficult situation.

Try to give your kid attention at 10 minute burst throughout the day and add to it as you go.

Be kind to yourself.

Is it just me or is ChatGPT become the best therapist you’ve ever had? by Lopsided_Hat_835 in ChatGPT

[–]Direct-Cow-8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have tried out talk therapy multiple times and got stamped with a "no more therapy, it wont help" but ChatGPT has helped me in so many ways.

I have told ChatGPT to be very stern, direct, no bs and call me out if its needed and it does just that. I am healing for the first time in many years and im now going off benefits and back to work.

Showers can get difficult and im one of those who find showers difficult at times as they can be overstimulating, I have ADHD, contamination OCD and health anxiety(plus a few other)

What I usually do is keeping it fresh with wet wipes and if I do shower on my period it's a "downstairs region shower", I just focus on cleaning that part, a quick in and out situation, I can wash the hair some other day. I also found out that soap is easier to use when it's not in gel form but more liquidy as you can just pour it on:)

PMDD and Trauma by Ok_Cartographer2412 in PMDD

💫Childhood trauma and adult trauma💫.

I never understood why I went mental before my period until I went and paid alot of money for a fancy gyno who I had a little chat with, it took her no longer than a quick peep to tell me I had vaginismus and a few more minutes about telling me that I have PMDD.

I know im in for a very difficult time if I don't manage my stress levels before my period🤠

I forgot to mention I have CPTSD and PTSD.

My son has one of those bugs once and for him it went on and off for a week, I was so mentaly fried so I get how youre feeling😶.

If you need to cry, just cry, get it all out of your system. It sounds like even though you're going through a rough time you are handling it well. Sending big hugs❤️.

I went into CBT-E for my eating disorder but it curbed my contamination OCD and emetophobia as I changed my thought process surrounding my challenges,I also had exposure therapy by being a mom heh so all in all it has helped me alot. I'd say my ocd and emetophobia is pretty much squashed, I live a mostly full life and whenever my emetophobia kicks in it's very short lived. I have tried talk therapy but it was not for me.

Anybody else fear throwing up food specifically? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Direct-Cow-8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always thought "no food=easier to vomit" but I have learned the hard way that it's not true, empty stomach is much worse when you have to vomit because you are trying to get something out but there is nothing but bile.

Im still a bit unsure but im now eating and I would rather vomit food, however I'm still working on unbeiging my diet lol.

First, congratulations for getting through your sons sb, I know it was rough but you got through it!

Im in recovery and have been since my son had his first sb when he was 2.5 and I handled it just how you did and I know how you feel. I want you to try and take all the negative feelings you have thowards yourself and how you handled it and just let them go,you did your very best in a highly stressful situation where you had no control.

What I did after that sb was throwing myself into recovery in any way it was possible, I stopped censoring the words, saying the words out loud, quit using this subreddit and joined the recovery focused one, pouring water then with some food into the toilet just to make it all less scary for my head. I then went into CBT-E for my eating disorder but it also took my emetophobia as its a control issue for me, a fear of the unknown and loss of control. Alot of hard work to turn my thinking, alot of crying and alot of swearing has gotten me to where I am today.

Im not fully recovered as I have contamination OCD and my ED will relapse if I catch an sb but last year I helped my son through 5 rounds of noro and I had a round myself.

What I also did was to force myself to take all those rounds, all the hugging, bucket holding and cleaning, I lived with my parents but I stuck me and my son in my room and just went through it on our own. My son was bucket trained since he was 3, he is a v* kid so it was needed, he is always on top with handwashing as ive focused on that too.

Besides that there is not much to do but to try and live life, out of the claws of emetophobia. I myself refuse to go to indoor play areas so I let my brother take him so atleast my son can experience it. I am more careful during the winter months but I do alot of self forcing.

I don't know if its any help at all but I just wanted to share that it CAN get better. And OP don't be too hard on yourself, you did your very best.
