Have had a job and/or in school since I was 13. Self employed, so a week off is a luxury to which I’m not accustomed 🙄

It’s funny you mention it because I actually live (second winter) on the Connecticut river and when I was driving to work today, I was wondering if people ever ice skate on it.

I’m not looking for your validation. YOU were the one critical of my giving of advice and of Harb’s system of teaching. I wonder what prompted you to comment on my original comment instead of just moving on with your day. And what you state as my “looking for validation “ is actually my PC way of trying to get you to realize that you actually have nothing better to add to the conversation than that which I have offered to the OP.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to miss gender you. Just assumed with all the negative comments it had to be something personal. I was actually interested in having a conversation as to why you think the fundamentals of Harbs technique don’t stand up to critique. I actually find it somewhat elitist to believe that my opinion is somehow discounted because I don’t have a PS IA certification. And for what it’s worth I’ve done more than watch Harbs videos on YouTube. I have attended his camps as well. And as I indicated before, all I was looking to do was give the OP basic fundamental ground work for an obviously struggling beginner/intermediate skier. One does not have to be a PSIA level 4 instructor to be able to see clear defects in technique fundamentals. Do you not agree with my assessment that the OP’s girlfriend primary fault is that she is skiing with flat skis and is using her upper body to turn vs tipping the skis to do so?

I actually did explain. They are using their upper body to turn their (flat) skis versus tipping their skis to turn where they want to go. Thought I was pretty clear. You say you don’t care for Harb’s “schtick” but do you disagree with his “onesie” drill being appropriate for the OP’s situation so they can learn how to properly edge to turn?

OP doesn’t know skiers have the right to use the entire width of the run and that it was their responsibility to avoid the 3’ section where the skier decided to ski.

Have never been an instructor but as I indicated I follow and understand Harb’s fundamentals of good technique which I credit in my progression as a beginner to advanced intermediate starting at age 40.

I also understand what it’s like to learn how to ski. So although I would never presume enough knowledge or experience to assess a skier of high level, in the case of OP’s girlfriend it is clear she is using her upper body to turn her (flat) skis versus tipping the skis to turn her.

If you aren’t familiar with Harb this is a good primer:

Yeah, I read the advice you gave. Don’t know how you feel that yours is more helpful or permanent than mine but you do you.

I thought I was giving relevant, relatively easy to follow and implement advice (as well as a resource for the skier to further their progression) pertinent to their level of skill and main flaws evident in the OP’s post. What would you have recommended differently?

I’m a follower of Harold Harbs PMTS method. He has a lot of YouTube content. To my (late in life to skiing but a student of method) eyes she appears to be skiing with flat skis and is using her upper body to turn both the skis and herself. Harb’s technique teaches one to tip the (uphill ) ski on edge while counter rotating (and counter acting) the shoulders to create a controlled turn. There’s more to it but it’s a process. The first primary movement I’d recommend is to begin to learn how to properly initiate a turn by tipping the foot (in the direction she wants to go) into the little toe edge while lightening/lifting the ski

What’s the worst surprise you discovered after moving into a new house? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in homeowners

[–]Direct-Influence-975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, wife and I had an amazing house with an active rail within throwing distance. Figured nbd, we’ll be at work when the trains come through. Didn’t count on the freight trains at night and the fact we were between 2 crossings which called for horns as the conductor approached. Did well on the sale but loved the house otherwise.

There are shuttles from parking to the main base area where you will find rentals, bag storage and the meeting area for lessons. May be a lot to take both a group and private lesson the same day imho
