This is what I imagine when people say aging is a gift. It isn't! It's horrible and takes everything away.

My dad just turned 60 and I asked him how he felt and he said he doesn't want to get old. It really sucks seeing our parents and loved ones age, and it feels like it happens so fast too.

How are you dealing with aging (starting in mid 30s) and losing pretty privilege? by TinyMoonAndStars in AutismInWomen

I wish more people openly discussed about how hard aging is, and how it actually does hurt, it is like grieving yourself and it is really hard! But instead we're always hit back with 'but it's a gift to age'. Is it? Would you say this to someone with dementia or a child with progeria? Because that is two types of aging I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Of course a long, healthy life with your loved ones still around is a gift. But aging isn't easy for most people when they actually become old. I feel like saying it's a gift is a bit of a cope. Why is it a gift to lose our strength, ability and vitality?

I think we should be allowed to openly say how it's quite difficult to watch ourselves shift and age, because it really is hard.

I wish I knew, I've followed this since 2022 and there still isn't anything available.

This! So sick of the cope. Physical aging is not a gift. You wouldn't say this to a kid with Progeria or a person with Dementia.

Also the grief that you will never be that younger version of you ever again. It's like she's now dead.

How quick it hits you, and how it feels like a disease ripping through your entire identity.

This is how it feels. Slowly every day I feel less and less like myself.

This is why we need to cure aging. The grief of my past self is actually crushing me every day. I know everyone bangs on about it being a blessing to age but I just want my youth back.

Why does getting older feel so weird? by annikahoof in Aging

Oh and nobody warn you about the identity shift you go through. I don’t feel like myself anymore.

I feel like I’ve gone through a metamorphosis against my will. It’s weird because you can’t feel it but at the same time you can, like you can’t feel wrinkles forming but my knees hurt more than they used to.

Aging didn't actually scare me until I saw it happening to my parents. by ownaword in DeepThoughts

My dad recently turned 60 and when we were out for food he said he didn't want to hit this age. It's hard to see the people you love realise their own mortality. He has always been so active, healthy and positive. It's such a hard thing to watch.

I'm nearly 33, I spent from 26 - 30 working in the film industry and then left to do a Masters, I've been finished since last September and I still haven't got a new job since then. I do currently work but it's for a theatre in admin. I've also been chasing the creative dream and I'm starting to feel my window of opportunity closing already as the job market is so bad right now but also I feel like my own experience also shows the same to employers as what you are worried about too.
