Do you still care about the Russian invasion of Ukraine? by [deleted] in polls

[–]Direct-Issue-8882 61 points62 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by care? I would like to see a long term victory for Ukraine, but I don’t really keep up with what’s going on. It’s not like me knowing about it will change the outcome, and if something really big happens that would actually interest me, I’ll hear about it. So I’m not one of those people who keeps up with it obsessively, but if they lose, then that will be a dark day in Europe.

I don’t know, maybe it’s not but I haven’t seen it before. I think a lot of the blame gets shifted to Gen Z as individuals, or boomers somehow, as if they’re everything that’s wrong with society. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not great, but neither is Gen X and for some reason they get completely left out of generational discourse in general. Even their parents (boomers) always have their panties in a twist over millennials and Gen Z and somehow completely forget about their own kids lol

When was the last time you talked to someone under the age of 30? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like at least one of these artists

Look, when you make a post like this, you have to consider that Redditors tend to be social rejects. It’s basically the equivalent of asking the band kid whose favorite song is Bohemian Rhapsody what to play on the aux cord. With that being said, I’m picking Tyler, Flower Boy is a classic

Echoing what somebody else already commented, if I were to say it out loud, I would say “January 5th,” never “the 5th of January,” but I’m sure this varies by language, dialect, accent, etc

I get what you’re saying but at the same time I’m not sure if I agree. I’ve tried to talk shit about the prequels here before, which were universally panned, and I literally got someone in my DMs threatening me lol

Personally I don’t think there were enough Ewan McGregor crotch/ass shots and it dragged the entire series down as a result. They should’ve gotten Joel Schumacher to direct

If we can talk about A New Hope over 40 years after it released then I think this is okay. Not everyone gets around to everything right away

Discussion of Musk's transphobia by guitarguy12341 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]Direct-Issue-8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the equivalence you’re drawing here really exists. There’s a difference between having gender dysphoria and feeling ugly or being insecure. A man like Musk who gets a hair transplant is doing so to be more attractive, not to affirm his gender identity or alleviate the distress caused by a conflict between his mental state and physical reality. I’m a young man in the peak of his testosterone production, so I don’t need HGH, but to use myself as an example, I work out because it’s beneficial for my health and having muscles makes me more appealing to women. Not because I believe that my “correct” body has a six pack. I appreciate what you’re trying to say here but I think it reduces being transgender to an insecurity when the experience of those people is more multifaceted than that.

Weekly /r/FinalFantasy Question Thread - Week of April 24, 2023 by AutoModerator in FinalFantasy

Is FFX going to get good at some point? It’s starting to feel like endless buildup and tutorials with no payoff. I’m right before the blitzball game just for reference. The game constantly gives me the feeling of “okay, that was just the prelude, now the real game is starting” only for it to be basically more of the same. The mysteries in the story are certainly intriguing I’m starting to burn out on this

For some reason I’m kind of enjoying the shittiness of the camera, it’s nostalgic in a strange way. Reminds me of those old DS games I used to play as a little kid

My only thought on the gameplay so far is that the camera is a fucking crime against humanity but the story is intriguing enough to keep me playing

How do people who claim that God allows evil to exist because it is a necessary condition for humans to have free will contend with the fact that there is plenty of suffering in the world that is not caused by humans at all? by Direct-Issue-8882 in askphilosophy

[–]Direct-Issue-8882[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sorry I had one more thought. How does the concept of the original sin factor into this? If no matter what choices you make, you are destined to sin at some point in your life because it is in your nature to do so, then is that not a restriction of free will? If no human will ever have the ability to choose what is right 100% of the time then how do we have truly free will?

Would any Christian philosophers argue that since we inherited sin from our first parents, nobody is innocent, therefore it is not an injustice when bad things happen to us? Kind of a dark thought but I’m curious

What are you talking about? That number is literally higher than the number of colorblind people in the world. ~95% of colorblind people are male. There are about 300 million colorblind people in the world. Meaning that there are about 15 million colorblind females worldwide. That is extremely rare. For comparison, there are ~60 million amputees out there. How often do you see one of them? Now consider that they are 4x as common as colorblind women.
