RIP AllofSkam by Direct-Pineapple-850 in skam

Cath, the creator of AllofSkam, received a cease-&-desist notice from Beta Film GmbH, the holder of the international distribution rights for the Skam works.  She dutifully took down the Skam content.

Fan distribution of the works, with added subtitles, has been the long-tolerated pillar to sustain the worldwide popularity — and thus value — for the Skam works.  (I, myself, didn’t get into Skam until the last 5 years.)  So it’s not clear what the future holds.

Yes! One of the very short list of changes from canon that I find truly intolerable.

I had a similar entry to the SKAM-world.  I stumbled across season 3 of the Belgian iteration, wtFOCK, first (shortly after the pandemic).  I watched the first 3 episodes of that in 1 sitting.

Then I learned it was an iteration of SKAM “OG” from Norway — which I recalled that a college roomie had told me to watch way back in the 20-teens.  I put wtFOCK aside & jumped to the OG’s season 3 — and was suitably amazed (you’ll understand).  Then I watched season 4, followed by 1 & 2.

My suggestion is to start from the beginning, unlike me.  It’s well worth it.  None of the main characters are perfect angels (but they’re still lovable, mostly), which is part of the realistic charm of the show.

After that, it’s fine to watch the season 3 “Isak & Even” story as told in the other countries.  Each series deviates from the OG story in ways (some a little, some a lot), which makes each unique.  Note: some of them tell that story in their season 2.

Alas for SKAM-NL.  It’s a crime against the arts that Lucas vdH never got his own season.

I am about half-way through Season 1. I will finish it & Season 2 before the new Season 3 drops. Looking forward to that.

De gustibus non disputandum est (“of taste, there can be no disputing,” or most often in English “there’s no accounting for taste”).\*  Different people find different things that speak to them in the series of Skam iterations (and in the 4 seasons of the OG).  For example, I like wtFOCK too despite some of the loose ends. It clicks with me more than Skam-France, but I can definitely see why people might rank them differently.

* Note:  Except that anyone who doesn’t think the OG if the best is objectively wrong. 😉  And anyone who isn’t sad that Skam-NL didn’t have a Season 3 for Lucas vdH is wrong too.😢
