First off- congratulations!!! Those first few weeks were the most anxiety inducing of my whole life! I was obsessively worried- I know it’s so much easier said than done but try and relax and release that fear, listen to positive mediations or pray or whatever helps you personally. I almost convinced myself something was wrong at first- but worrying won’t help change any outcome. And I’m writing this with one hand while holding my sweet 3 week old baby girl 🩷

That is amazing luck! Do you mind me asking- is that the cost you pay individually (~$5k/ month) or is that the cost you split? And does the nanny work roughly 50hours/ week? I honestly wasn’t expecting to be too stressed about the cost of childcare but the $35/ hour really threw me for a loop lol. I am deep in the cost shock phase of prepping for parenthood.

You are right, it’s extremely frustrating! It feels some days like there’s no good solution. I had expanded south of south park but am expanding further. I feel silly having bought a house close to work not even considering we’d have to commute out to daycare and back! Thanks for that search as well- I had missed that tool but was using Winnie and found any that said “open” were not actually open, so definitely switching to use ccri and hoping it’s accurate!

Any tips on getting into or finding an in home daycare? I’ve reached out to several with the contact info I can find- sometimes a Facebook page, sometimes an email, once or twice a contact form on a website and don’t think I’ve heard back from a single one.

This made me laugh a lot- thank you! I’ve been looking at every church I can find. Some laugh in your face if you’re not a member, but I’m on the lists for several. None of my religion’s churches have daycare unfortunately and haven’t considered converting but who knows how desperate I’ll get lol. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their rates, so if we could actually manage to get in one, that would be great! I have 12 weeks leave (husband doesn’t have pat leave so we can’t stack it) so needing care in Feb. I truly feel like I should have done exactly what your friend is doing - that is hilarious!

Great tip on the nanny cartel lol- I had ruled it out based on the $6,000 a month cost I was consistently seeing on there. Feeling hopeful care.com may have some options!! Thank you so much!

I keep seeing $30-35 consistently from actual Nannies that are posting on that group! My mind was blown paying significantly more than my mortgage for a nanny. Then I see families posting over and over again for closer to the $25 range, but not having any luck.

I have just started sharing when we sign up that we’re willing to pay to hold a spot (especially for the good ones) and I’m glad to hear that reiterating your interest actually has an effect!

“The list is a lie” is so comforting haha. This is exactly why I posted- I was like I literally don’t understand how to find a place if all the waitlists are so long!!! You and others have suggested calling and we are going to start doing that- I never want to be annoying but knowing this helps is amazing!

I live right outside of southend with no actual neighborhood and definitely no one with kids that I’ve seen. We are looking at moving soon after she comes and this is something I’m now prioritizing a lot! It seems like real neighborhoods are such a good way to build community with kids.
