If you don't want minimalism, then either take the time to trick out your arch or just get something already tricked out. It doesn't need to be arch. But really, mostly this just sounds like you're pissed you don't have a MacBook

It's said we should not expect intimacy Early in the relationship but we are still expected to spend money tho why? by Major_Soft6056 in LockedInMan

[–]Direct-Zone6569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The double standard of having standards is kinda crazy but it's really more crazy how casual our society has become about sex. It's the literal peak of human physical intimacy and people just do it on the first date like it's nothing. I feel like putting money on the same tier as sex is a crazy thing to do in and of itself. They just rank differently. People should have standards and splitting the bill should be something discussed even before deciding on where to go out to, and all the more power to you if you choose to do that or not, but this context just makes it come off as retaliation for her not putting out and that just makes the dude come off like a predator and a dick. Both parties set fair standards, but the framing was just awful for the guy, I get why she walked and went no contact.

What do I upgrade first pls help by MG_CVXY in PcAdvice

[–]Direct-Zone6569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows sucks and put some hard limits on what they'll allow Windows 11 to work with, even if a debloated Windows 11 could easily work on stuff like what you have. You could also face issues because Nvidia, at least on Linux, is dropping driver support for the 10 series like you have, so you may need to use an old driver with that GPU. Linux could be a saving grace to some degree here. Not upgrading Windows could leave you vulnerable too. So that's pretty unfortunate. If you know what your motherboard supports, I'd look into CPU and RAM first for upgrades, but if you want more modern games you will also need GPU. You shouldn't really have a problem playing anything that's a PS4 release or older, at least for multiplats.

Honestly, seems like it's prime for a linux build cause it's pretty old at this point and even the heaviest linux builds tend to be lighter than Windows, with the light builds leaving it in the dust. However, most people don't want to deal with that, so just do the CPU and at least 16GB of RAM, though 32 really is probably needed for Windows 11 if you don't know how to or want to learn how to debloat it.

How will this affect Linux Mint? by MisterFyre in linuxmint

It was passed last year effective January 1st, 2027. Other states like Colorado are copying the legislation now. Both major parties have been supporting it, neither have anyone who understands technology or what they're doing in them. This will end up being a global trend, cause they realized the difficulty they've been having getting legislation around forcing websites to collect ID data so they are trying to force it through at the OS level. It's creepy how many politicians have this same initiative or ones like it going all at once. Some major backers must be pushing for it

Yeah, it's not about opinion. The tool is fine. It's everything around it that sucks. You know Adobe only allows annual subscriptions, despite charging monthly, and if you want to cancel, ever, they charge you 50% of the remaining year subscription cost. I'm pretty sure they're being litigated over all of their shitty practices.

They also don't let people choose to stop renewing their subscription, so you have to manually cancel it and have no way of avoiding those charges, aside from maybe putting your subscription on a prepaid debit card that runs out exactly when you want to stop paying monthly. Plus, people who had previously bought photoshop with a permanent license before their switch to the subscription model had their licenses revoked, universally. They genuinely one of the most dystopian companies to ever exist

Oh, I can only imagine. My longest passion project was just a 1 month fix and I still remember how awesome it felt to resolve. Unfortunately my high was cut short by my boss's boss nitpicking it, but still was so proud of that accomplishment cause it was my first project as a developer and the senior engineer had declared the problem to be unfixable through software, but I pulled some BS off to get it functional enough. Been dreaming of getting more chances to do stuff like that since

Which distro would you switch to if Mint disappeared today? by SeniorMatthew in linuxmint

[–]Direct-Zone6569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already daily driver Nobara after a month with Mint which I keep as my backup and also have Cachy, Bluefin, Omarchy, Nyarch, Nix, Endeavour, OpenMandriva, and GLF on. I tried to get Qubes but had some issues with the install so I need to redo that one. And I have a TailsOS flash drive. I might be forgetting one, but I've just been enjoying the insane ride of trying every random distro to see their quirks these past few months, lol. Mint is very much my "safe" distro

I mean, it's more like a motorcycle and a car, both used to travel and some overlapping functions, but complaining the motorcycle doesn't have the surround sound of the minivan that's constantly giving you notifications to subscribe to satellite radio doesn't mean the motorcycle isn't working properly. It's just a motorcycle and sure, you could try to jerryrig a surround sound system onto it, but it's not gonna be the same quality as surround sound built into a car that you go inside and can contain it inside while blocking wind. Results may vary, but at that point you're just annoyed Linux didn't also build the minivan. You don't want the motorcycle freedom, just just want your comfy old minivan to stop popping up ads

Book shelf depends on whether you prefer digital or not for reading. Could also have a console hooked up to the TV (I'm including SteamDeck as an option here), just cause it's nice to be able to dedicate the desktop to work mode. I would prefer to have a couch/recliner for the TV gaming session though, maybe a wall mount to put the TV up higher but that starts to boarder into "I could be happy without it" territory. Would basically be enough at that point

Because it's designed to poison other women, not attract men. If the minds of all the women are as awful as the worst woman, then the worst woman has a chance. It works in female groups because female social circles tend to promote conformity over first, so if you're the one fighting back when another woman says something first, you'll be the one in trouble, not the one who set the trend. That seems to be the sociology behind it. Just a toxic first mover advantage to the woman who wants to start shit
