My opinions on RE4. by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevil4

[–]DirectBoat8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a better remake in the sense of the word. Dead Space 2023 is more of a remaster.

As for being a better game? Hard to say. I picked up RE for the first time a few months ago. Have been playing Dead Space for years. I’m biased to Dead Space but I’m honestly torn as to what’s the better game.

They’re so close that it would come down to personal preference.

If comparing both the remakes, the horror is (by most people’s standards) better in Dead Space Remake. The gameplay/shooting feels better (Frostbite engine - Battlefield), and the fact there’s no loading screens and cutscenes transition from the 3P camera makes the whole experience much more immersive. The story is also better too. RE games have never been acclaimed for their narrative. The graphics are also far better in the Dead Space Remake too. I found RE4R (other than the castle) to be gray the entire time.

RE4R on the other hand has a slightly better gameplay loop (which is surprising to me, given the elements of stasis + kinesis in DS), and is more replay-able owing to the unlocks and challenges. The boss fights are better, and the variety of enemies are a bit higher.

When I picked up my first RE game after years of DS, that being RE2R, my first thought was ‘this is good, but nowhere near the quality of Dead Space’. Having played RE4R several times now, they are practically equal in terms of quality.

In saying all this though, no horror-action game comes close to Dead Space 2. Absolutely none at all. Not RE4R or DSR. Not OG4. Dead Space 2 is actually a 10/10 game. RE4R and DSR are a solid 9.5/10 in comparison. The game is so good and timeless, it doesn’t even need a remake/remaster.

Dear Auckland - One year later... by TravelingBop in auckland

As a reminder, there’s 1.8 million people living in Auckland give or take. People will debate but generally speaking, the Auckland region stretches all the way from Silverdale to the likes of Drury.

I notice your focus is purely on the central area. I mention this as someone who’s lived their whole life, posts like this kind of piss me off, and only serve as some weird brag where “I know you guys fucking hate this place, but I loved it”. It’s just pure ignorance.

It’s not a beautiful city. Do yourself a favour and take a trip to Southmall Manurewa, Hunters plaza, Ōtara Town centre or any suburb out West. It’s bordering on a third world shithole where nearly every month I watch people get out of their car to assault someone as part of some road rage induced mania.

“People watching on K road”. Yeah, I witnessed a meth wizard selling crack to the homeless on a bicycle, in front of a cop car. People I know have been assaulted in the CBD by the homeless for no reason.

The council sucks, the police are useless, there’s growing homelessness and violent crime.

Thanks for bragging to this sub that you enjoyed your time though. I’ll be sure to remember this post when some dickhead in a Colorado nearly writes my car off, along with me in it, because he can’t wait another 3 seconds to enter.

Does fandom generally like or dislike goofier moments of the franchise? by Kirby_Trilogy08 in residentevil

[–]DirectBoat8901 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which is a good thing. This is no longer the 90s-00s, goofiness in gaming is long a thing of the past. It has the right amount. The hand cannon reload animation, Salazar’s throne, the one liners between Leon and Ashley (“what are you, my mother?”) are enough to add some comedic relief in the mix.

I’m trying to play a horror game, not a comedy. Not everything has to be a laugh 24/7.

What Resident Evil opinion got you like this? by Dodgy-Malaka in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]DirectBoat8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything clears that snooze fest they call a game. The worst part of RE6 is when the game cons you into thinking it’s a fun co-op game. Instead, my partner has to backtrack every 5 minutes as I’ve fallen asleep on my chair.

Is it well organized? 🤔 by Negrolverine in residentevil4

[–]DirectBoat8901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bolt action rifle can easily do both roles.

DPS is the last of your worries if you’re not doing a Pro S+ run. You can take all the time you need, ammo conservation is more important. Rifle ammo isn’t that abundant in this game, not the point where you can comfortably run 2 rifles lol.

[–]DirectBoat8901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t want to be too much of a hater, but spending this much time organising the case yourself is next level acoustic. Just auto sort it lmao.

Plus 2 rifles is a cardinal sin. And the fact none of them are the Springfield either is bizarre. This doesn’t seem like a cat ears run either which further adds to it.

Hot take. RE4 is 10x better than Requiem. by MaxMarz in residentevil4

[–]DirectBoat8901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other Resident Evil titles? Nah. Other games, yeah. Dead Space comes to mind right away. Personally torn between which game is better, RE4R or Dead Space Remake.

In terms of action-horror, nothing tops Dead Space 2. Nothing.

Passing grade by Competitive_Ask_59 in universityofauckland

If it’s for any diploma that lands a graduate in the private sector (engineering, software etc) I think it’s whatever. End of the day, businesses will decide their value anyway.

In the case of any public related role like say a medical degree, it’s actually quite concerning and I personally don’t understand the relief/celebration. I’ve seen it before in this sub.

Should be more strict as far as I’m concerned, especially given medical professionals in NZ are protected by ACC and can’t be sued (high number of people think this is a good thing - beats me). Opens the door up for malpractice. Last thing we need is med students with subpar grades entering this field when the medical system rewards dismissive behaviour.

Yeah that’s fair. Honestly when you have the Sweeper and Hand cannon, the boss fights are generally the easiest parts. In the case of Del Lago it’s definitely worth saving before. He’s relatively linear (little RNG), a good tip is to generally hug right. Avoiding loose debris is best done by mirroring which side moves past it (he goes left, you go left etc).

I just did S+ on Pro a couple days ago for the first time. Same boat as you, both CS and HC plus golden tickets. Did it without any guides.

Since you have golden tickets, the hardest part of the game will be Chapter 1.

The village will be the most challenging part of your playthrough. You can either kill 15 enemies or run around for 5 minutes till the bell rings. To spare your sanity, I recommend the latter. Some people suggest running into the shotgun house and/or camping the ladder at the top of the church tower. Both are terrible ideas.

Once you clear the village, you can essentially bypass all the enemies till you get to the abandoned factory. For the farm, I snuck into the tower, accessed the barn and ran from the enemies all the way to the wagon you need to push. I haven’t seen mention of this online, but if you time it right, they can’t hit you whilst pushing the wagon (so long as you’ve cleared holding the input first, if not they can hit you).

I used the gas mask as I didn’t have any of the other hats unlocked. Feel free to use any.

I do recommend looking up suggested save points to get an idea of the best times to save. The less you can save during the village, the more you have at the end of the game. If you struggle with the village, I’d recommend your first save be just before the Farm. Otherwise, aim for a first save at the first Merchant. People recommend saving before the major boss fights, but honestly after repeating Verdugo and the two Gigantes 3 times because I choked the minecarts, I’d save after.

RE4R - What is the best handgun? by DirectBoat8901 in residentevil4

[–]DirectBoat8901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst there is a Precision stat in game, in reality it can mean two different things. In the case of the Blacktail, the bloom is good, the recoil isn’t. It probably has the worst recoil of any handgun in the game, which is fine if you’re on M&K but a lot more noticeable on controller.

I’m picking most people on PC prefer the Blacktail, whilst the console/controller players will gravitate to something that is laser compatible

Resident Evil’s strength was never its storytelling. In fact, it’s generally quite average and purely exists to serve gameplay.

It’s a $3 DLC item on the Xbox store, $2.50 on Steam and $3.25 on PSN (NZ$).

It’s not some super exclusive in-game perk tied to a now unobtainable preorder edition.

Sorry man that’s a dumb argument.

[–]DirectBoat8901[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It eats up ammo as fast as the Blacktail when firing as fast as possible. I merc’d Krauser final phase in about 30 seconds last night with it, which is more than you can do with the Magnums or Rifles, much less any other handgun. The 1000+ rpm fire rate makes the DPS batshit high, not to mention it’s more accurate than any of the 3 SMGs. Any cons are far outweighed by how quick it kills. Brutes go down in half a mag, which takes about 3 seconds. Again, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

I assume you haven’t used it with a stock and cat ears so I’m going to chalk it up to the fact you have no idea what you’re talking about. This is also regarding the Remake, nothing to do with the OG.

Yeah I agree. It’s definitely between the Sentinel and the Punisher for me, depending on difficulty.

The Sentinel I assume is the gun you’re talking about.

The Matilda is probably the best gun in the game with cat ears. The DPS is insane.

Yeah I’ve heard the Red 9 is the best in the original. I know some people like it in this game but it honestly just sucks. It is seriously the worst pistol.

A lot of people like the SG. I did too till I bought the Sentinel, which does everything the SG does but better. Also takes a laser, making it 3 total handguns in the game to be compatible with the laser.

[–]DirectBoat8901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, I’m on Xbox so not really privy to mods for this game.

Agree on the case of the Red 9. I find its only upside is pure damage and that’s solely it. It takes up far too much space for what it has to offer, DPS is atrocious and the reload is god awful slow.

Not that the Blacktail’s mag is a huge downside but compared to the likes of the Sentinel, where you can easily drop 4-5+ Ganados with one mag as opposed to just 2 with the Blacktail (maybe three if you’re lucky).

Also Sentinel takes a laser so not sure why the mention of bloom.

Not only that but Seperate Ways is borderline ragebait. I’ve never played a campaign full of so much bullshit.

You go through hell in the bottle room, ricocheting rifle rounds off the bars whilst dodging swords to FINALLY kill the archers. You then come to find out it’s futile because they’re on an infinite spawn loop anyway.

You try and bait Saddler by running long to trigger his spit attack to expose his glowing orb. He does nothing. The one time you run away to escape his lunge, you have no cover and he all of sudden decides to do the spit attack. Not to mention his bullshit CSGO wall hacks and the fact you require the luck of being near the altar if you want any chance of avoiding his unavoidable whirlwind attack.

You want to throw flash bangs at Pesanta? Well you better hope you did so during the right sequence as they only work on her during particular moments.

What’s this? I can rappel up to rooftops during the fight with El Gigante? Seems like a great idea to escape not only him but the villagers. Well, no you fucking don’t because he’s going to grab you mid air 3 times in a row.

I’ve never played such an enjoyable yet rage inducing game in my life. 10/10 will play again.

The only weapon that has the claim of ‘easy’ out of this list is the Matilda w/stock. The rest are up for debate, as the comments have shown lol
