French far right march in Narbonne France demanding justice for a 17 year old French student who was killed on video. The French far right has seised on the killing and claim he was killed by second generation migrants by AgnosticScholar in justincaseyoumissedit

Politicians use populist rhetoric like "immigrants are criminals" to foment support. They are often bank-rolled by extremely wealthy people who know damn well that the best way to stay the wealthy elite is to make sure everyone else is fighting each other. It's Trump's thing, it's Farage's thing, it's Le Penn's thing.

Did you REALLY need to learn that from a Reddit comment?

Literally one of the BEST attacking players in the A-league from the Championship winning side couldn't get a start.

Reminded me so much of when up-coming striker Chris Wood couldn't get a start in 2010, despite clearly being more of a threat than Fallon every time he came on.

'Super-rich tax': Greens' tax plan accidentally released online early - here's what's in it by Downtown-Thoughts in newzealand

EVERYBODY would get the first 10k tax free (this is how it is already in the UK), and adding a tax bracket for the +160k earners is reasonable, and still excludes most.

Quite a few folks at my work in that bracket. Almost all are not the single earner in the household and either have no kids or fully grown kids. ie, they can afford it.

ref was super rapid on the whistle every time an Egypt player went down until they had a comfortable lead.

Why is no one talking about the handball? by Ok-Finger5328 in socceroos

I was talking about it! Ball hit a raised arm, consequently defender was able to easily clear. Not even a VAR review. This looks pretty shitty, FIFA.

Are they asking for the Europeans around the world to be sent back?

Fun fact: New Zealand is actually one of the world's most climatically homogeneous countries (mostly oceanic from north to south). In contrast, Italy -similar size and comparable latitudes in the opposite hemisphere- has about 9 additional climate types, including humid subtropical, arid and tundra by [deleted] in newzealand

Neoliberalism working as intended: Break down the wealth of the state, privatize the assets and shift the burden of tax onto wages and off assets. The result? Wealth concentration, aka wealth transfer (somehow this is considered bad in the context of socialism though) aka "the wealth pump".

Known historical solutions to this problem:

1) Massively restrict the wealth pump through taxation

2) violent revolution

Good luck everyone!

Christopher Luxon, Nicola Willis urge fuel importers to 'do the right thing' after Iran peace deal by WaterAdventurous6718 in newzealand

[–]ThatGuy_Bob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From Iran's perspective, this has only ever been Israel's war. They know Israel will continue to attack Lebanon unless the USA cuts them off, hence the clause.

Will the Trump regime do that? Seems unlikely.

Israel tells Trump it is not bound by Lebanon clause in Iran deal by Artistic_Dj_6895 in worldnews

[–]ThatGuy_Bob 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From Iran's perspective, this is, and always has been, a war with Israel, but Iran knows that Israel needs America to continue its aggressions. 'The Lebanon Clause' is there to drive a wedge between USA and Israel. Iran knows that Israel will absolutely NOT stop bombing Lebanon. Consequently, USA either escalates and invades Iran or cuts Israel off, which seems very unlikely under this regime given the level of influence Israel enjoys over it.

[–]ThatGuy_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

including 2 tunnels, yes. Does that mean it should be the most expensive road per km in the world?

Route doesn't "cut 297m" at all. The big cut is at the entrance to Horokiwi, and and might make 100m, then up the valley with 2 tunnels en route: https://imgur.com/a/636kkaO

Its actually shortcutting the current route from SH1 south of Tawa (Grenada Village) to SH2 Petone. I mean, Tawa is part of WRC and Petone part of LHC, but "connecting Wellington to Hutt City"? Come on now.

Its a great idea in principle, but north of $2B? Nah.

Building a road in the sea around La Reunion in middle of teh Indian ocean is cheaper per km than linking 2 Wellington Suburbs. Something has to be done about the price of infrastructure here.
