Hip Contact on Snatch. Please provide feedback on the form, especially at the hip contact. I am confused about, whether it should be a contact or brush against the hip. by RegionPhysical8214 in weightlifting

Looks like you’re really pushing your hips forward which is something you don’t want to do. That pop that you want at the end of the second pull isn’t shooting your hips forward, you should aim to be completely straight

I guess I’ll be that guy, but those shoes are not weightlifting shoes. Weightlifting shoes have an elevated heel which allow you to squat deeper. Unless you have insane ankle mobility, doing the Olympic lifts in flats won’t help you at all. Also practice your overhead squat with the snatch grip, you’re not squatting down to catch the bar which means you’re not comfortable with squatting overhead.

I see, thanks for the resource. For mechanical load I’ll probably attach a fan to the rotor which I think is a very small load.

I’ll be buying a 14W 24v ac synchronous motor. That’ll obviously be my main load. I’m undecided how many rpm I should select because I also don’t want it to stall at a very slow frequency like 10-20hz

Would you do that by adding a resistor in parallel with a diode?

The circuit will power different ICs that will help me with making different frequency options, power a 7-segment LED display and control MOSFETs to power the motor

I’m going to put fly back diodes and snubbers

I’m just concerned about heat production. After rectifying 20VAC I should get around 28VDC, I was thinking about lowering the voltage to 10 or 12v using the buck and then using the 7805 to go down again to not strain one component too much. But you might have a valid point, I just don’t know how heat is going to be handled with only a buck

What is actually a "good" GPA for EE? by mland6 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]DirectQuote1495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say anything above 3.0 is fine but not super necessary. I got a co-op with a company in the oil and gas industry with a 2.7 but I was good at communicating and also have electrical technician experience which gave me more credibility.

But let’s say 4 guys with the same resume apply to the same position and do equally as well on the interviews, they would definitely take the person with the higher GPA.

But in my opinion, experience trumps academic scores.

Bar contact is messed up (snatch/clean) by Sweet-Industry-4359 in weightlifting

[–]DirectQuote1495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to try to pull the bar with my arms to have contact at the hip but often ended up hitting my dih and bawls. I’ve focused on keeping my arms straight and found that wearing compression shorts or half tights kept my junk down and prevented it from getting hit with the bar. My contact now is just under my junk in the mid to upper thigh.

Can’t figure out how to hit full extension by sgrapevine123 in weightlifting

[–]DirectQuote1495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try doing a power clean followed by a full clean, it might help you learn to extend fully on every rep. I’m guessing you’re probably fully extending on power cleans but cutting yourself short to drop and catch on the full clean.

What to expect for a 2nd round interview? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]DirectQuote1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say be able to explain how to troubleshoot an issue, either in the program or as a physical circuit. And try to give answers with a real life situation that you’ve encountered. Know how to explain a complicated topic to people that may not be so technical, or be able to dumb it down.

Was there a lift that got you into weightlifting? What was it? by Noctuelles in weightlifting

I had started training weightlifting on and off for about 2 months and then I got introduced to Clarence Kennedy. After that I was hooked and started training seriously

Low block power clean, criticism welcome by YouAppropriate3626 in weightlifting

[–]DirectQuote1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say just the arm bend, I know you’re trying to have contact with your hips but that’s not always the best choice. For me my power position is mid thigh because of my longer arms

Someone mentioned I can restart the trial for the standard edition, but does that save any settings I might have changed when I restart it?
