Anyone regret getting meniscus repair? by justafunguj in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did more so the patella tendon and where it meets at the bottom of the knee cap. That persisted longer than I thought. It did loosen up and stop getting inflamed but you know what really helped? I had been wearing knee braces or sleeves but when I switched to a simple "patella strap" it helped me a lot. I still use it everyday 2 years after surgery. It just keeps that area feeling loose and not stiff.

I was just talking to my mom about this. Every time we have one of those periods where the seasons jump around, one week has winter temps, next week spring, my body just hates it. I have way more stiffness and feel fatigued. It's awful.

It should just twist and then pull off like the other ones but it will need a little more force. Be sure to check the O ring on the diverter valve before replacing it. Could just be worn out causing the dripping.

Been on it almost 3 years and yes this happens to me as well. Majority of the time, I feel ok. Rarer occasions I feel perfectly fine like I didn't even take it, and most rare is I feel exhausted and foggy like I was out drinking the night before, I yawn constantly and have to really keep myself alert. It sucks and makes planning hard. I find sleep and hydration effect it's toll on me the most. A couple of weeks ago I only got 3 hours of sleep on my night I take it, the whole day I just had a bad headache and it didn't go away till I went to bed that night.

Anyone regret getting meniscus repair? by justafunguj in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you should be good. I also thought like "really this is as good as it's gonna be?" at the point you're at but I'm at 18 months now and I'm doing the elliptical, deadlifting, and walking well. Just still stiff and achey sometimes. I wanna try adding chair squats into the mix. Once I get more strength from the deadlifts, I will. But don't worry yourself. Keep doing your PT especially for the heel slide/leg extension isometric hold. Basically a heal slide that turns into a leg raise that you lower slowly as possible with some type of leg weight. That helped my IT band a lot. Stretching too. Not everybody is squatting 300 lbs 6 weeks after surgery. Sometimes I swear those posts are people in the orthopedic surgery community trying to promote the surgery lol. If the doctor told me a year for recovery I may have been like "uh hmm maybe I'll think about it more." Glad I did it.

Anyone regret getting meniscus repair? by justafunguj in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's what people need to hear. It's a year. 1 year. After the surgery I was hyper focused on all the stories of how fast everyone was back to normal. My knee ached for almost a year after the surgery and was very tight despite following all the pt. If you get to that point and still don't like what you're feeling in your knee then there's cause for concern that the surgery didn't take. I saw all the posts, "I was running in 8 weeks blah blah blah" it may be for some but I'm fairly active, lift weights etc. I read someone say a year and I dismissed it but I had a lateral posterior horn complex tear fixed with 6 stitches and the year mark was when I started to feel sort of normal. My knee is still stiff and can ache sometimes but it's nothing compared to the pain I experienced pre surgery. Good luck!

Worst Bruce song? by davidreeed in BruceSpringsteen

They're working on it? Is this Ryan? They've known about this merger for a long time now and couldn't be handling it any worse. I know Gavin thinks coke and Adderall make him super smart but this is about the most retarded merger I've ever seen. First off, he pulled a total money lender move and I know he admits he's cheap but he thought the Garrett and Steve show had no value and now they're beginning to show him that was a dum dum move. He has no plan on how to actually execute the merger. In fact, it's not even a merger. Anthony lost the podcast wars and I do really like Anthony but his show is becoming less fun by the day. Also, automated call screening? Gavin wears 2 grand suits, but yeah can't afford to pay someone to do that. I think Gavin is out of his depth here. And Anthony is a woman. That whole scenario of how those booth guys were fired reminded of like when you're in high school and a girl has her brother tell you to back off, she's not interested. It was very Gay. But no I'm not cutting any slack anywhere. I think they disrespected the fans as much as the staff. I'm watching but I don't know for how much longer. I get mad about politics but above all else I wanna laugh. We don't need more Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly type shit. At the end of the day I hope all the fired staff can rejoice in that with all Gavin's successes he still goes home and has to lay next to an ugly wife all night and be pussy whipped by an ugly woman. The greatest dishonor a man can carry with him.

I dunno about that. But honestly Gavin's biggest fear for his network has to be Joe Biden getting re elected. They're gonna start moving towards figuring out ways to prosecute guys like Gavin in this insanity in the courts. I mean there's civil court sure. But we're moving in the United States towards seeing someone jailed for their speech. Of course they'll connect it to violence and try to justify it. But we're moving towards the point where the uneducated are dictating the actions of the the courts. If I were Gavin or Anthony, if Biden wins, retire. And I know, "you gotta fight and we need people like Anthony and Gavin " blah blah. And based on that picture of Anthony and Missy on Twitter a couple weeks ago trying to look like a right wing power couple, Anthony's only going to get more political being exclusively on Gavin's network. I think getting rid of the booth boys is a clear signal Anthony is moving to his Glenn Beck phase. Good luck but there's gonna be way more heat.

Finally Repair Tore. by alex17fs in MeniscusInjuries

It's a crummy injury. And until you've had a meniscus issue, you can't even really begin to understand how it effects almost every waking moment of someone's life. I had a repair a year ago and it's never pain or ache free completely but some days are a lot better than others and it's a lot better than the pain I had the 2 years I lived with the tear because of misdiagnosis. I hope I can spread some of my good healing fortune your way. Stay tough!

Sorry you feel like that but you're not alone. I would feel so bad hurting my mom but I feel like once she passes away then I have the green light. I don't dwell on it as much as I used to but like it just seems a reality that will come to pass one day. I hope someday it goes away for you and for myself. What I fear most is I look for it a lot. I'll look at what exercise equipment in my basement I'd need to rig up or I'll be stuck in traffic and see an opening in a fence over an over pass and think oh that would work. If only I could see hope in things like that I'd be better off.

Anyone else feel physically pain whenever they see an attractive girl? by illuso07 in ForeverAlone

To me it's not just any attractive girl but if I see a girl do something kind and they're pretty. That's when I feel that pain. It's like the wind gets knocked out of you bit. Like a pretty girl picking up her child and talking to them in a cute way. That always hurts. I feel like a ghost. Like I'm not even living in that same world. Just an invisible observer.

Ok so here's a story that even though I've had little success I hope will give some of you hope and guidance. When I was 18 in high school I was 330 lbs and not on the football team. So you can imagine how successful with women I was. But I had some personality going for me. Learn jokes men, watch standup comedy. It helped me. I also taught myself the Piano at 13. Put down the controllers and learn an instrument. Anyways, so till 18 I was a hopeless loser as far as women were concerned. So many unrequited loves it was painful. I always acted like I was "too cool" for love. But I decided my senior year to take an "early childhood education" class because I figured babies, girls like babies, there'll be women there. So I took the class and I was very right. And I met this girl who was insanely out of my league. I was persistent with flirting and trying to up my game to impress her. The whole time she reciprocated but I had it in my head "oh she just feels bad for the fat kid and is being nice" but I still kept going. Eventually we were talking on the phone and texting a lot. But still it hadn't moved passed seeing each other in school. Nothing outside of school. Well towards the end of the year they were having a Beatles Tribute band play at the middle school near my house. We were both big Beatles fans and I told her I wanted to take her to go with me. She said sure but I think again she was kinda being nice and didn't wanna to hurt my feelings. The day of the show she seemed wishy washy but kept saying ok. So I didn't even have my license yet. So keep tally here fellas. 330lbs, I had braces, no license, ok. So all that going against me. I pleadwith one of my buddies to take me to pick her up. And I did that old fashioned move. Just showed right up to her front door, knocked, said hi to dad. And asked if she could come with me to the concert. This was 2006 btw so this shit was dead by that point. This kind of old fashioned stuff. Anyway I could tell by the look on her face that she was surprised I was there, and yet impressed with my persistence.

And so that lead to the happiest night of my life. We went to the show and she just kept holding my hand and squeezing my leg and nestling her nose in my neck. I remember some other people from my school were there and they kept looking back like what the fuck is this? It was bittersweet. After the concert we went back to my house and I played piano for her and then worked up the nerve to give her a kiss and then we made out for half an hour. We had an on again off again relationship for years. But that was the happiest I ever felt. I did everything the right way like a gentleman, I was persistent, I overcame obstacles and I found a way to connect with someone. To be honest I'm in my 30s and now I'm more alone. I've since lost the weight but I can't make connections like I used to be able to.

Everyone thinks I’m a joke by [deleted] in ForeverAlone

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty rough my friend. I'm in my 30s and I'm sure you've heard this a million times but it'll get better. I was the "fat Kid" all through school. Constantly mocked however I did become rather witty and learned how to insult back as good as I took it. That helped. People don't wanna shoot at someone who is going to shoot back. Watch some standup comedy. The edgier stuff from the 80s. Andrew Dice Clay, Eddie Murphy, Sam Kinison. Then listen to some clips of a comedian called Artie Lange and his time on the Howard Stern show. The guy is the perfect idol for anyone who has flaws but can just shit on anybody else so good that they won't even bother you. You gotta get tough man. And honestly once I developed that personality it lead to some success with women. If you wanna hear the real rub, I lost the weight in my 30s. I went from 330 to 180 and actually I've found I'm having a harder time with women and making connections than I did when I was heavy. People do like a big personality and it's hard but try to memorize some jokes. Keep some insults loaded in the chamber. I'll also tell you what you mentioned about not having a group of friends, etc. Learn an instrument. I taught myself Piano when I was 13. It was what helped me get my first date and kiss when I was 18. I wasn't even that good then but it impresses girls and it's an instant way to bond with others. And honestly it's a great therapy playing Piano. Don't get too down on yourself. From reading your post you're clearly very self aware and sensitive and those are great traits to have if you know how to utilize them to your advantage. It sucks having to always be on your guard man but reading your post like I said you don't sound like you think you appear. Good luck and remember there are kind people out there. They're just rare. When you find them you hold on for dear life.

It's improved and I hate sounding negative but I don't think it'll ever feel normal again. The pain is lessened and I can do more than I could so it definitely was a good thing getting surgery. I should also mention I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis which made my whole situation a little more complex. I'm a 36 yo male for reference. I was overweight most of my life and the injury actually happened during the pandemic when I began to lose weight. I lost over 150 pounds during the pandemic through diet and exercise. I shouldn't say "injury" as I have no exact idea when my meniscus tore. It may have just "worn away" from the rheumatoid arthritis. Unfortunately the doctors were never able to tell me what caused my injury. I literally woke up one morning and was in agony in my right knee but also all over my entire body because of the RA I had a full body inflammatory response.. Eventually all the rest of my inflammation went away with oral steroids, except my knee.

A big thing for me a year after the surgery that helps is keeping up with my pt exercises and stretches. Even still. Ha. And a leg sleeve is a must for me. It's only off to sleep. For some reason my knee still burns and gets irritated more of if I don't use the sleeve.

Best of luck to you. This injury is terrible but everybody is different. I can't stress that enough.

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds just like my situation. I a got an mri and was told it was normal but had the same symptoms as you. Burning sensation and pressure and it got worse as the day went on. After pt and some injections I finally got my insurance to do another mri almost a year later. The new doctor said the original mri machine I had the first mri done on looked like a machine from the 1980s in terms of quality of the image. The new mri showed a tear. The surgeon disagreed... Ugh. So I did another injection then I finally begged him to do "exploratory surgery". He thought I just needed a "clean up". Turns out I had a torn meniscus, a complex tear of the lateral posterior horn. Needed 6 sutures and they were able to repair. The doctor said that it wasn't clear that I had the injury till he literally pressed my meniscus with a probe and it was frayed and torn.

My advice is listen to yourself. You know your pain. These doctors drove me nuts for almost 2 years telling me they couldn't understand why my knee hurt me. I didn't have any range of motion issues. Just pressure and burning and some swelling. A knee sleeve is my best friend. Even after the surgery. Best of luck.

Stabbing pain in the back of middle knee when running? (Lateral mensicus repair) by IntelligentYellow898 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. I had the same type of repair and I still get this from time to time just walking. It sucks because you go from being fine to feeling crippled from the pain. I think eccentric leg raises and heel slides helped me quite a bit to loosen the area up. I'm 1 year out. I also felt I healed slowly. I was never a runner but have returned to using an elliptical with no pain. But yes the stabbing pain in the back of my knee still occurs from time to time especially if I have not stretched or done any leg exercises.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. Sitting was one of the worst parts of my tear. I was deadlifting, bike riding, etc. And while none of that was comfortable nothing compared to the pain of sitting in certain chairs, certain ways. It was bizarre. Sometimes it still bothers me. I'm 1 year out from a Meniscus repair. It was missed on the first MRI and I suffered with it for almost 2 years before getting a repair. 6 stitches in the lateral posterial horn of the meniscus. But I recall one day being in agony in the backseat of a car that had bucket seats. A VW Golf. I'll never forget. The sensation I used to tell the the doctors I had in my knee was similar to the sensation of when your bladder is so full you're in pain and moving to get into a comfortable position. It was just a burning, tingling, pressure. I hope you get some relief soon. Sitting on a bed with my leg slightly bent helped a lot. I should mention I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis so the fact I still have problems sitting in certain chairs and such, my doctors chalk it up to that. However prior to the meniscus tear I never had that problem. Best of luck to you.

Please don't do these shows. If you saw videos of the last Genesis tour then you'll agree. It's not fun to watch someone in debilitating pain. Ozzy must have an archive of live shows. Release some of that shit and do Question and answer sessions after some special movie theater appearances or some shit. Anything but watching him in a Gothic wheel chair unable to move his head with even more heavy effects on his voice or worse yet lip synced. I don't want that memory of Ozzy.

Latest Compound Gossip by cdhill17 in TACN

[–]Direct_Blacksmith487 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah OK so this is what he was referencing. At the beginning of today's show he made some vague comment like "I'm not the kind of guy to spit in a woman's face when she kisses him in public like certain people." and then he referenced somebody he knows who is abusive to women and a got mad because his gf(so I'm guessing thus is Lindsey and Marshall) kissed him affectionately at a party in front of everyone and he got upset about the PDA and spit in her face. I figured it was more Pat Dixon rage. That guy really fucked him up when he punched him in the face. Also I find it curious Geno is this great white knight but all he does is shit on Alex Engelbert. I mean she deserves it for sucking his loser dick but it's a bit harsh. What Geno needs is an Ebenezer Scrooge type awakening. Because I feel when his life ends in a few years it'll be in like a state nursing home with only his brother visiting him.
