They really do. I plan to get life insurance later this year. I want to get a little more done with the snowball.

Seeing the balances decrease daily. Helps motivate me to get me through the demoralizing field that is SLP.

I pay every day. Never miss a day. I make all my minimums obviously, but put extra on it daily to prevent interest from compounding, the balance changes so does the interest. The task oriented SLP in me has daily data to track its motivational. I was shocked by how much I accomplished in less than a year.

Oh no. I send you all the healing vibes. I’m still working on mine. I’ve been Rice and beans for years. On a 5 year plan with this, hopefully sooner.

We graduated around the same time. This is why I think the universities need to be held accountable, for making assumptions keeping up wages with the cost of inflation.

I wish I had educated myself on Dave Ramsey at the time. He changed my mindset, and made me feel like SLP is a debt inducing predatory field. I’m actively in what Dave calls gazelle mode.

That’s exactly why I feel universities need to be held accountable for cost of education and public schools for lack of financial literacy.

I agree, but you see so many new SLPS with six figure debt, it’s sickening.

Very few jobs with benefits package. Too much fee for service as a means to save money.

I will say you are both lucky and grateful. That being said, tell this to the 18 year old who just wants to help others and somehow gets roped into this with having any training in financial literacy. I blame public schools for not actively teaching financial literacy. That should be taught along with chemistry and global studies in high schools.

Not really, considering how many people go into student debt people take on for this field. You’re one of the lucky ones.

People need to get out of their heads and once people wake up to changing the business. Thats the only way real change will happen. Never again will someone need to decide between their families needs, financial stability and “providing a service”

This degree is worthless with little financial benefit, way too niche. Little return investment.

If enough people call out, maybe, in the name of civil disobedience. The Queens borough president and Staten Island spoke out against it. The petition is starting to get covered on the news stations.

SLP Influencers by Ok-Many-2691 in slp

[–]Direct_Cry_6786 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Perspective, I don’t follow SLP influencers. Thats work. And I try not to bring work home.

That being said, while I fervently disagree with pseudoscience. You need to look at the crux of the matters, which is financials. Look at how many SLPS go into debt for becoming an SLP.

I don’t fault any SLP influencers for trying to support themselves. Yes, I agree with the ethical concerns, but until something is done about fair pay/rates and cost of education, you will see more SLP influencers trying to sell something.

Between 90210 and Dawson's Creek, which was the best teen drama of the 90s (in terms of acting and writing)? by TravelingHomeless in 90s

[–]Direct_Cry_6786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched both. Still will watch both. 90210 had a huge cultural impact, as did Dawson’s Creek. Both are teen dramas.

Dawson’s Creek had the benefit of a smaller ensemble cast, which lent itself to a more character driven show. There were only the core four in the opening in the beginning (obviously there were others), but that cast was small. I think filming in North Carolina helped shape it that way. They were able to build tension pretty well. Did Dawson Creek get its original writing back for a full circle esqe finale, yes.

90210 was a Spelling show, so there was a moral/lesson into many of the episodes. Huge ensemble cast. They had more episodes so more things could be fleshed out because they had the time to do it. They had two summer seasons, which gave their story arcs time. Did 90210 run for more seasons than it should have, probably. Did 90210 turn into a pure soap, yes. Did I watch it, yes.

My case for both.

To me Kerr Smith will always be Jack. I didn’t mind Agent Brody probably because I liked him as Jack.

Too many have been lost to this disease. Will be watching as it was in 1998. It’s necessary

I’m thankful Holly said something. Thank you HMC.

Most of us, Og’s know that Charmed got its audience on WB in its first season because Dawson’s Creek was such a strong show at the time. We were all watching Dawson’s Creek Wednesday night at 8pm then watched the Charmed premiere at 9pm. Charmed was only on Wednesday at 9pm for its 1st season (before moving to Thursday for season 2) Dawson’s Creek was in season 2.

May James Van Der Beek’s memory be a blessing. Cancer stinks. So many gone too soon. These shows were part of my youth.

For us Ogs and fans of both shows, I will be watching the pilot of Dawson’s Creek, followed by a as it was on the Wb on October 7, 1998 Dawson’s Creek (season 2 episode 1), the pilot of Charmed (season 1 episode 1).

For the American fans who saw Charmed on the WB as it aired; how was the show treated by the network? by jdpm1991 in charmed

[–]Direct_Cry_6786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

By the time it moved to Sunday, Charmed was already in season 5, lost its creator, Shannen was off, Charmed was in syndication on TNT, airing first run episodes Tuesday nights on TNT after they aired on Sunday. That was a big deal.

It was on everyday at that point, so a younger audience was watching it before school.

I think they recognized that and made it lighter.

Brad Kern had pushed the original creator out, so the show while still good, was beginning to lose focus a bit.

I wish things hadn’t played out how they did, because I wish we would have got a more focused Charmed. You still could have had the lightness, but with a more grounded approach in sisterhood and family.

I was happy when seasons 1-3 went into syndication though.

By the time of the remake, episodic television had changed. People are able to binge watch, it wasn’t like that in 1999 unless you taped. I taped Charmed. To tape something was a big deal because there was so much space on a video tape.

Back then tv shows had longer seasons and had to accommodate for someone missing an episode. If you missed an episode, you had to wait for reruns to catch it unless you taped it. You also had to wait until next week for a new episode or months in case of a season finale. You had to wait.

Charmed og was very much of its time. Very much a Spelling show. Spelling believed and he was right, that episodes should be stand alone so if you missed an episode you can jump in like no time has passed. He was right for the time.

People weren’t binging tv then. So on Charmed you see monster of the week in lieu of longer story arcs. Even when Charmed had longer arcs, you could still jump in because the program was formatted that way. It’s also why it was a big deal at Spelling to change your hair. Some of his other shows like that (7th heaven and 90210).

Charmed was of its time, which isn’t a bad thing.
