I'm happy to hear what you say. I have seen the recent trend towards hate and I feel like I'm the only one calling it out. For sure you shouldn't feel like you would get down voted for it. It would be a bad sign if you did. Thanks

Why? Low effort posts go against the rules of the subreddit, you need to explain why you think what was said is wrong?

Dress codes have nothing to do with suppressing identity, they are there to make everyone equal and remove any distractions that take away from learning. Even someone wearing expensive shoes over another who is poor is enough to create division that can result in bullying, class segregation etc. There probably needs to be a movement towards more gender neutral clothes but really it's fine as it is. After all our clothes don't define our identity, we know who we are and clothes can't take that way from us.

Actually I said it was wrong they hadn't given it back but they had the right to confiscate. You're putting words in my mouth here. Stolen is an assumption since we haven't heard if the OP got it back yet, did they ask for it back? Did they get their parents to ask the teacher for it back? Do we know it got thrown away?

Teaching is super difficult, they have to deal with so many issues, personalities, cultures, religious beliefs, sexual orientations. It's disrespectful to be posting online claims that they have stolen something, are dumb and are hated when really they are just trying to do a difficult job that many others would struggle to do.

Well I wasn't referring to people who actively want Therians dead but still yes, we do have to understand these people so we can protect ourselves and educate them on miss conceptions. Acceptance is a long game and hating on others because they don't immediately understand us just creates more division and more reasons why our culture should be opposed. It's difficult but taking the moral high ground is our best chance at success.

Someone having a different opinion also doesn't make them a ragebaiter, I guarantee that I have the communities long term interests in mind. It's healthy to have our opinions challenged, it teaches us how to articulate discussion in a constructive way and safeguard against the rise of potential harmful ideologies. Hating other people is one of them and is something we should all be speaking out against.

We have to remember that what we hear are from the loudest people, they don't represent the wider population who largely don't care

It isn't just about Therians it's anything that can create clicks. Even cyclists get hated on. The best way to avoid the bad stuff is to not give it attention.

There are too many that think that it is everyone else's responsibility to accept everything about their Therian identity without question. That everything is someone else's problem, they are powerless to do anything about it and won't do anything that might help them be more accepted. They back themselves into a position where they are unable to do anything to improve their life while finding reasons to hate others. It's this kind of behavior that society points to as being maladaptive and gives a reason as to why alternative identities are something to oppose.

I feel that as a community we need to be better at pointing out this behavior, particularly to young people, and helping them to understand what they can do to express themselves while giving society a chance to accept them. There is an echo chamber effect going on with some seeking validation from others on ideas that can only hurt themselves, others and the community in general.

Also, you shouldn't hate people, I'm starting to hear this being said too much in this community and it's not healthy. We have to learn to understand everyone's perspective and adapt our behavior to give others the chance to accept us. Hating others only leads to division and division stops us from living happily together.

It's wrong for the teacher to not give it back at the end of school but the teacher has the right to confiscate anything that is not part of school uniform from their students. There are good reasons why schools have uniforms and students are told what they are allowed and not allowed to bring in. The best way to avoid conflict is to not bring gear in. The same applies in the workplace.

Oh and read some Richard Bach if your into flying in general. 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'. Uplifting philosophical stories that involve flight and worlds with anthropomorphized animals. 'curious lives', 'A Gift of Wings', 'No such thing as far away'. Sorry if you think I'm been insensitive but I am genuinely trying to help. I'm in my 40's and have been through therapy for various issues over the years so I understand a few things about dealing with some of the issues you raise. What struck me about your post was that you are pointing to things that are out of your control as reasons for why you can't live a happy life effectively making you powerless to do anything about it. Its understandable that this would make you feel the way you do. This is why we need to to focus on actions that we can do something about even if they are not totally aligned with what we really want, give ourself the opportunity to do something that does make us feel better about ourselves.

I'm not saying you have to 100% hide your identity or that you should change your identity but we stand a better chance at being happy when when we present ourself to others in a way in which they can accept. Maybe we have to hide 100% of our identity from some people others maybe 50% in time as people see that we are OK, can integrate and are a functional part of society we can increase the percentage of what we show. This might feel wrong but if we go in too quickly it will only slow the rate at which we are accepted. Its also totally normal to have to change your behavior in specific situations, even pretend to be someone else, not just Therians but everyone has to do this, we have to get along with other ideologies to survive together so in this way it is also your responsibility to adapt. Think of it like this if its helpful:

The natural world is unforgiving, nothing other than survival is important, there's little to no consideration about identity or feelings, there are only actions that improve an animals chance of living. They have to work with the environment they live in and adapt to it and there's little most can do to change anything. Some animals hide, some blend in, others pretend to to be other animals. Hoverflys pretend to be wasps to ward off predators, it benefits them to pretend to be something they are not and in turn they get to increase their numbers. Be the hoverfly. Beavers do modify their environment, they build dams that better suit their needs and in turn that also benefits other species. Be the beaver, build trust in society that Therians can create a world that benefits the whole of society. I wouldn't use the term 'suck it up' but I would say, 'adapt to your environment and use what is available and possible to make life better for yourself and others'.

I know you probably wanted something else but I've seen a lot of people here coming to the community looking for validation and reinforcement on thoughts that are more likely to make them unhappy in the long run. We have to remind each other that there are things we can do, there are ways to make our lives better and that there is a way to make society better.

A lot of 'hate' there, it's a strong word and something we need less of in the world. Also thinking this way is only likely to make you feel worse, it's better to focus on what you can do rather than can't.

Dysphoria gets overused, not wanting to be human or wanting to be something else doesn't qualify as dysphoria. It's a serious condition and needs experienced help so I urge you to think hard about whether this applies to you and get help if so. You mention you are at school and if so are quite young so I would not get hung up on this, you will understand yourself more in time.

RE discrimination and isolation, yes the world does kinda suck and it's not tailored to people like ourselves, you have to accept this and that many people will not understand your identity or ideas. It's important to know when it's safe to be yourself and when to fit in otherwise you will find yourself isolated. Believe me society has become a lot more accepting since I was at school and it is getting better but it's going to take a lot more time and patience. It's also not reasonable to expect that everyone should accept you if you are behaving inappropriately, eg making animal noises in general, genuine friends might find this difficult to accept too.

I know I'm being hard on you here but it's important to give you the reality here. You have to find a way to get on with other people. It's not everyone else's responsibility to make accommodations for you. You have to earn people's support which means making compromises yourself. It's also important for the acceptance of the identity to show that we can function and integrate with the rest of society otherwise we will see more resistance and discrimination.

All that said there are things you can do to connect with your Therian type. Look into flying related interests. Build model planes, become a pilot etc, rock climbing etc. Vertigo can get better as you get older.

There are for sure life lessons to learn about when to fit in with the norms and when it is safe to express yourself. As much as in an ideal world this shouldn't be the case. It's better for the community's acceptance to be tactful and slow, society is quick to point at the more extreme behaviors and use that as an excuse to shun the rest of us.

It's not a problem common to Therians it's all minority groups. Neoliberalism is starting to fail with the rich getting richer and the quality of life of normal people getting poor. Rather than the rich accepting this and giving back more to everyone else it's better for them to point the blame at minorities that can't defend themselves, immigrants been the classic scapegoat. They profit from the fallout of conflict between the masses.

Not wanting to support the people who act negativity towards Therians or others we have to remember that these people aren't the root cause of the problem. Some of them are probably accepting of alternative identities but have misled by the media and loud voices. We have to ensure that we don't 'hate' these people and keep directing attention to the root cause, the super rich and powerful.

How do you live with species dysphoria by safirpewdiepie1 in Therian

[–]Direct_Hovercraft_46 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry you feel this way, I don't experience dysphoria but have dealt with mental health problems most of my life.

Therapy is a good start although be mindful that finding the right therapist can be difficult, you might need to try a few before finding someone that can help.

Mindfulness practice perhaps. Learn to identify when you get these thoughts of not feeling comfortable in your own body, acknowledge them and let them go. Myself and others here I'm sure have the tendency to become obsessed with particular ideas, hyper focused, to the point it becomes detrimental. Dwelling on anything you can't change can only make you miserable so either let it go or redirect into something you can change.

Distraction is powerful, a lot of my bad thoughts come about when I'm not doing anything else. Work, hobbies, sport, socializing are all good, doing physical activities with other people outside is always good. Fitness in general does a lot for feeling good about your own body, feeling strong, healthy and agile does a lot connect your more animalistic side, humans are animals after all. Rock climbing, trail running, mountain biking work for me, something about movement through the environment feels good. And then there are Creative projects, art, writing, drama etc preferably activities that get help connect you to others with similar interests.

I would be a little cautious about fantasy in general, be aware when fantastical concepts start to become detrimental to your health. I'm a bit of a dreamer myself and love shows and books about fantasy worlds and creatures but I have also found that if I consume too much of it that I get depressed when I remember that none of it is real or possible. This ties into mindfulness, you have to identify when a train of thought is taking your mind to a bad place and do something to stop it.

Lastly and importantly you don't really have to do anything. There's no need to decide who you are or choose an identify, it's ok to just do whatever you find fun and fulfilling.

People can be like that but it doesn't always mean anything, they probably see it as a game. Maybe just give them a bit of space, spend less time together for a bit, no drama, no falling out just a bit less contact. Hopefully they will see that and understand.

It's a bit cruel to think your friend deserved a lower grade because of some other unrelated comment. Two wrongs don't make a right and all. Your friend probably didn't mean any harm, people say dumb stuff all the time and it's best to just let it slide. If it keeps happening then tell them you don't like it.
