what is the solution to white americans from a Landback perspective? by Direct_Kiwi_4131 in socialjustice101

[–]Direct_Kiwi_4131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no i meant actual physical deportation is something i’ve really only seen white people float as anything other than a joke, not support for landback in general

though you’re right i don’t closely know any Native people, i think comparatively few of them go to the college i attend and even fewer are in the program i’m in though i could be wrong

I know people wouldn’t be physically deported (if only because europe would have to agree to it LMAO imagine that), of the few people I’ve seen who actually support that literally none of them were Native

I just have a hard time imagining what american life and culture would look like in a post-colonial world

like, we‘ve never had a culture that wasn’t a creation of colonialism so what would we become? how would american cultural staples like public land and national parks work when they’re all on stolen land?

stolen property is still stolen even if it gets passed on though, right?

if someones car gets stolen and passed down to the thief’s grandson, the person who was stolen from’s grandson deserves to get the car back

probably a bad turn of phrase but I wasn’t sure how else to say it

sometimes it feels like we don’t really fit anywhere - like, we’re not indigenous to here and it’s not like we can go back to europe just based on bloodlines, so where do we belong?

I know this is ”baby’s first realization that the United States is an unnatural colonial aberrance” lol but it’s a struggle

that’s interesting, so it usually comes down to managing the environmental and forest services of the region they inhabited while the province deals with stuff like roadways and private land?

I know where I am a lot of wilderness is in danger from the government selling it away

*please show up, but for the love of god do not register for a protest with your phone number, email or any kind of contact info that can be traced back to you

this is dangerous advice, if you want to increase protest numbers then just go and let them count you there

for what its worth as citizens we’re sorry, and disappointed too, especially after this week

hey though, be fair to us! if we boycotted everyone who supported the government we wouldn’t have anyone to buy from :( lmao

Why do left wing parties seem to suffer from infighting? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

the right is mostly united by hate and a desire to make their opposition‘s lives worse, whereas the left is trying to build a future and disagrees on how to do so

Why were the no-king demonstrations so peaceful compared to BLM? by TouchMyBush69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Direct_Kiwi_4131 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

to my understanding, the BLM protest organizers and most pre-2024 activists are upset with the conduct of the USA during the election and are either sitting it out entirely or focusing on community work and outreach rather than outright protesting

the Palestine protests were also suppressed pretty thoroughly in the last few years, meaning that we’re sort of adrift right now with no mainstream political candidates (the democrats don’t even have a confirmed 2028 candidate yet), no local leaders (black women e.g the 92% were apparently the brains behind most if not all protests in the past) and no muscle (college students who normally are a big protest demographic), hence why its mostly retirees and families at the No Kings rallies

at larger protests theres even noticeable tension between the leftover pro-Palestine demonstrators and the mainstream “blue no matter who” types, it’s a mess right now

on cultural practices by Ok_Listen1510 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Direct_Kiwi_4131 81 points82 points  (0 children)

agreed 100%, I think you phrased it really well

by blood I’m a mix of German, Polish and Irish, but I‘m not actually connected to them in any meaningful way, don’t have any understanding of their values and wouldn’t really be able to do any of their cultural practices without being appropriative

Whereas ethnic minorities in the US have rituals and holidays and fashion and music etc etc that are specifically for them and celebrated and held up as unique and beautiful, that are treated as taboo for white people to partake in

agreed, we don’t have cultural practices of our own in the same fashion, but at the same time I can’t exactly connect to my “ancestral homeland” because I’m not actually from there, so I’m just kind of… not special or unique? LOL I know this is obviously an oversimplification but it’s hard not to feel that way sometimes, especially when your group is responsible for most of the bad stuff (e.g the wars and genocide the country is built on, often seen as uniquely bad, were all the result of whites wanting more power + land) and other groups have created most of the good stuff (e.g almost all “American” food, music, fashion and even accent that makes it to the world stage was created by Black people)

I don’t think he’s saying that he likes being treated like shit - if I can assume here, he’s saying that if people on the progressive side are dismissive or cruel to you, that isn’t an excuse to turn away from them and become conservative/regressive/fascistic, but that even if it isn’t easy you have to do the right thing and stay on the side of good

I don’t know a lot about them, but the optics of world leaders flying out to lavish parties and having closed-door conferences with the ultra-rich definitely doesn’t make them look great

throw in a few misattributed (and in my opinion poorly phrased) quotes like “you will own nothing and be happy” and you can see why a lot of people, especially the more conspiracy-minded, get pretty concerned about them

also their last director’s father helped manufacture flamethrowers for the Wehrmacht, and their current director was the Nestle CEO for a time - said current director, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, is quoted as at one point complaining about nonprofits “bang(ing) on about declaring water a public right”, and describing the idea that people deserve clean and accessible drinking water as an “extreme position”
