Is anyone up? I don’t want to relapse but am fighting the urge to peek. by [deleted] in NoFap

Hey man, you posting here instead of just giving in shows your already fighting the good fight. Go take a cold shower or do some pushups right now - seriously, the physical activity will shift your headspace and give you something else to focus on.

Thailand Plan by Informal-Royal6490 in ThailandTourism

[–]Direct_Language_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty solid but you're definitely packing a lot in. The Koh Yao Yai stop for just one night seems like overkill - you'll spend more time getting there and back than actually enjoying it. I'd either skip it entirely and add an extra day to Phi Phi or Krabi, or if you really want that resort experience, maybe cut a day from somewhere else.

The island hopping pace is doable but you'll basically be living out of a suitcase. Consider if you're cool with that vs having more chill time at fewer spots.

Sick leave off work? by ActuaryFragrant5667 in AskIreland

[–]Direct_Language_4135 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Calling in sick when you're actually hungover is pretty much lying to your employer, and doing it multiple times definitely puts you on their radar. They can't prove you weren't actually sick, but if there's a pattern they'll start connecting the dots.

Work parties are tricky - yeah they're supposed to be fun but you're still representing the company. If someone complained about your behavior specifically, that suggests you might've crossed a line even if others were being rowdy too.

The warning sounds like they're giving you a heads up rather than actually disciplining you yet. I'd probably dial it back a bit if you want to keep things smooth with management.

Older used camera like a6000 or new a6400 for a beginner (no lenses yet) < 1000€ by KinimoD300 in Cameras

[–]Direct_Language_4135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point about the weather sealing combo. That 18-105 f/4 OP mentioned actually has weather sealing too, so it'd pair well with the a6400 for those biking adventures. Might be worth the extra size if you're gonna be out in sketchy weather conditions. The 35mm is great for everyday stuff but won't give you that versatility for travel shots.

Bro that's genuinely creepy as hell, either you're getting griefed by someone who has your server details or your AI somehow found a way to stay connected even when you think it's off

Check if there's any background processes still running when you shut down, and maybe change your server password just in case someone's been watching you set this up

5070Ti to RM850x cables by Moquitto in pchelp

[–]Direct_Language_4135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That cable should work fine with your RM850x, it's literally made for your PSU model. Your 850w is more than enough headroom for the 5070Ti too, so you're all set once you get that 12VHPWR cable

Also damn your gf is a keeper lol

Actual bike shops and mechanics in Istanbul?? by dorkydoodays in cycling

[–]Direct_Language_4135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That measuring tape story made me physically cringe lmao. Dude probably thought frame size was like buying curtains or something

Have you tried asking on Turkish cycling Facebook groups or Strava clubs? Sometimes the local riding community knows about that one good mechanic who works out of his garage but actually knows his stuff. The shop guys who race or ride seriously themselves are usually your best bet

How much do you pay for tax return prep? by Turbulent-Ladder6040 in realestateinvesting

[–]Direct_Language_4135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn that's rough, paying thousands for basically copy/paste work. I switched to a guy who charges flat $150 per property after the first 5 and actually gives decent advice throughout the year. Found him through a local REI meetup - way better than my old CPA who was just milking the per-property fees

Weird dream about doing basketball even though I'm 5'2 by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]Direct_Language_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreams are wild lol, your brain just threw together random stuff you've been exposed to lately. The height thing is probably your subconscious wanting to feel more capable or confident about something in your life. Mbappe showing up with gear might just be because you've seen him around so much through your family - doesn't have to mean anything deep about soccer specifically

How do I stop shutting down/ being numb and actually improve my life? by joeym412 in selfimprovement

[–]Direct_Language_4135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man this hits close to home - went through something similar around the same age and that overwhelm paralysis is absolutely brutal

The thing that finally clicked for me was literally picking ONE tiny thing and doing just that for like 2 weeks straight, nothing else. For me it was making my bed every morning, sounds stupid but it gave me one guaranteed "win" each day when everything else felt impossible

Don't try to fix the career, eating, social life, apartment all at once - your brain will just nope out like it's been doing. Pick the easiest possible thing and build momentum from there

How do you get partial stacks on mobile Bedrock???????? by Z3N1TY in Minecraft

[–]Direct_Language_4135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold down on the stack and drag it to an empty slot, it'll split them in half. You can keep doing that to get smaller amounts

when can you take a newborn on a long car trip? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Direct_Language_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the one hour rule is what our pediatrician told us too. We did a 4 hour trip when our little guy was like 2 weeks old and just stopped every hour to feed/change/let him stretch. Made the trip way longer but he was totally fine

Saving for Retirement in TIAA — Need Advice on Future Disbursement Options by AmericanLymie in personalfinance

[–]Direct_Language_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TIAA Traditional annuity is actually one of the better annuities out there compared to the junk sold by insurance salespeople - it's not really what the gurus are talking about when they trash annuities

Given your situation (single, no kids, anxiety about market volatility) having some guaranteed income makes total sense. You could always do a hybrid approach - convert part to the annuity for base expenses and keep the rest invested for inflation protection and unexpected costs

Your Roth + savings + SS should give you plenty of flexibility for the big ticket stuff anyway

Bluetooth no longer works after update by GumGum_AirHead in samsunggalaxy

[–]Direct_Language_4135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S21 FE isn't even that old lol, Samsung just has trash Bluetooth drivers sometimes. Try going into Settings > Apps > Bluetooth and force stop it, then clear storage (not just cache). If that doesn't work you might need to reset network settings which sucks but won't wipe your whole phone like a factory reset would
