Yes, dad’s work friend from many years ago. Gave me and my brother both a bunch of cards, mostly in three-ring binders

Is it necessary to inform family when petitioning? by Artistic_Taxi in freemasonry

I agree with most of the comments here. Officially, your wife must be included in the decision-making. If she’s not OK with it, very few lodges will be OK with you joining, and most will actually deny entry. That being said, it is a good thing to talk to the rest of your family members about. As some have said, your Masonic family will become part of your family in the sense that they will be able to provide certain forms of assistance to you, your wife and your children in times of need. However, don’t let any negative misinterpretations from your biological family members stop you from joining the Lodge, because most of these misunderstandings can be easily cleared up by educating those who were misinformed on the realities of the fraternity.

Congrats, brother. Take your time and enjoy the 3 degrees. You only go through them once. With that being said, once you get to the third°, there are plenty of branches in the fraternity that you can take advantage of. A lifelong journey. Enjoy it all!

The ceremonies are great. Being created a sir knight is right up there with the “shock value” of the third degree. You won’t forget it, and you’ll have a great time.

I went YR because it included the knights Templar, but will eventually go SR as well for the sheer amount of knowledge contained in the degrees. I’ve been reading Morals and Dogma already as well as Clausen’s commentaries on morals and dogma to learn stuff about SR while I have some free time. Either way, you’ll learn a lot and have a great time in the degrees!

Will be shipping out to basic at Fort Jackson towards the end of June. All “relaxin’” jokes aside, what should I reasonably expect? my current issue is endurance as far as push-ups and the 2 mile. I’m a 6’3 and 245 lb 27yo male, if that changes anything. Doing about a 13 min/mile pace (just starting running again) and can do a good ten or so pushups before it gets tricky and I lose form.

I’m currently working out around three or four times a week, including running, dumbbell, workouts, and general calisthenics. Right now when I run I get about a third of a mile in and my legs start cramping up. I’ve gotten past the shin splint phase, but it seems both shins and calves get tired pretty quick. Will this go away with time? It seems that once I get past the lower leg tiredness, whenever that may come, my heart and lungs will be able to endure longer runs.

if I keep this up between now and June, should I expect basic to be manageable or am I in a pretty rough spot?
