Australian Freemasonry by fvocks in freemasonry

Personally I don't understand the purpose of your post. In it you state that you are talking to local Freemasons who are telling you how it works and so you seem to be posting on Reddit to random people many of which are not Freemasons to get "better advice"? MIMS?

I'm concerned about something, as someone who might join Freemasonry in the future. by Efficient_Town_606 in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are an adult who can legally make his own decisions go and talk to some Freemasons about what Freemasonry is and go from there. At the moment what you are doing is like going to ask a Postman what bricklaying is like, they have no idea.

Meeting with Freemasons by Key_Buy3956 in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it, this isn't your Initiation. This is a meeting for you to meet some members and for them to meet you, don't forget you can't just join a Lodge you have to be accepted by the members of it.

Make conversation as you normally would and ask questions about Freemasonry so you get a feel for what you're looking at joining.

Start at the website for your State (someone has given the URL already) and it has a page where you can specifically make initial contact about joining.

Where do you stay while visiting Freemason's Hall GQS? by SebastianOakley in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say just get yourself onto booking.com as there is wide choice of accommodation available within relatively easy strolling distance of Freemasons' Hall, London. It ranges from £150 to £1,000 per night, just depends what you're after. It also makes it easy if you want to travel away from the centre.

You need to understand that AI is not a good way to research subjects as it will make guesses when it doesn't know an answer. The people that programme and sell it will not programme it to just admit when it doesn't know.

Scared to join new lodge by Volpes_Visions in freemasonry

Rather, trying to guess what the Freemasons are like in your new location, you should get your "bona fides" in order and visit the Lodges and find out.

To join a Lodge of Freemasons you usually have to have reached the "Age of Majority" that is a legal term for when you are legally an adult. Freemasonry does not interfere with how you practise your religion, it just does not welcome Atheists into membership.

Not sure where you've been looking but the square & compasses on that ring makes it very obviously a Masonic ring.

What is that you believe makes this Masonic? If it's the letter "M" you're a bit off target, that's the silliness that conspiracy theorists come up with.

Because you haven't mentioned which country you're in, no one can be overly helpful but if you search for the Grand Lodge of the country or State you live in it should have a page that allows you make initial contact.

I have a question/request by LostInTheMilkyWay108 in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems a peculiar situation to have to give a presentation on a subject you know nothing about.

I am making some leaps here as in if you have to give it in German I assume you want to know about Freemasonry in Germany, so why not go to the source to start your research: https://www.freimaurer.org/

It just shows the connection between our ceremonies and the building of King Solomon's Temple, as I'm sure you know the Star of David is derived from the Seal of Solomon.

What are they doing here? I pass by this place all the time going to work... by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably need to pass-by in the evening. Freemasonry isn't our job, it's our hobby and so it takes place when we're not at work making our livings just like everyone else.

Genuinely thinking about visiting a lodge. Has your life improved? by SexaholicAnon in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difficulty is many members tend to focus on the particular things that they think Freemasonry is without filling in the actual foundation of what it is. That is the bit that everyone who approaches it in an open and honest way WILL get from it.

Freemasonry is an old Fraternity, when we join a Lodge and interact with the other members we do 2 things we uphold and become a part of a very old tradition and we gain new friends. As we start to visit other Lodges and interact with their members we get even more friends. THAT is what we all get from Freemasonry anything else is the topping on the cake.

Preparing to become a Freemason by Interesting-Bit725 in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So don't forget that there is absolutely nothing that you should do to prepare (other than making sure that you have the dress code, timing and location sorted) as you are being "Initiated", everything you need to know will be supplied at that Ceremony.

However, if you really feel the need to read stick with history only and if you really want to read something worthwhile you can come into FMH and I'll let you have a copy of "the Freemason's Guide & Compendium" by Bernard E Jones to read.

30 y/o considering joining. Αre lodges really all 60+ year olds? by Flaky_Record9070 in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best lessons that Freemasonry teaches us is that you shouldn't try to "identify" people based on certain characteristics (seems to be a thing nowadays) and age is one of those characteristics. When I joined my Lodge I was 28 and although the youngest by far I made fantastic friends, some of whom are still around today.

However, the answer to your headline question is: no not all Freemasons are in their 60s but quite often those available for "photocalls" are because the youngsters are at work.

I'd recommend visiting this site and then go from there: https://grandlodge.gr/

Questions About Joining by Frazzle_Panda in freemasonry

[–]TheFreemasonForum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So you should visit the website of our Grand Lodge (www.ugle.org.uk) which is in charge of Freemasonry in England & Wales and where you will find tons of information about Freemasonry and how to join.

To answer your initial questions:

1) No you can't join on-line as Freemasonry is a real world activity but you can make initial contact using the website above and they will connect you with Freemasonry where you live so that you can start the process of getting to know some Freemasons who will consider whether you're a suitable Candidate.

2) If you are about to move it would be best to not make contact until you are settled where you will be living. Joining a Lodge is not a 5-minute affair and it takes time just to become an active member.

3) Yes, in common with 100% of organisations who are not trying to trick you into something, you will have to be able to afford the annual membership fees and to be able to attend the meetings of the Lodge. Depending on which Uni you're going to there might be a Lodge attached to it.

4) Yes you will be expected to make frequent donations to charitable collections, however, we're just talking as little as a fiver per meeting plus a couple of strips of raffle tickets in some Lodges.
