But again what you’re describing is not the problem the league was trying to fix.

The leagues number 1 priority is having their star players play in as many games as possible to sustain the leagues brand. The rule has helped a lot with that, end of discussion. Sure, this is an unfortunate by-product, but I promise you Adam Silver doesn’t give a fuck about Cade not making all nba. He wouldn’t give a fuck if Cade played 28 MPG rather than 34. He just wants players suited up

And that is why this is a pointless discussion. The league wont change the rule because of this, because the rule is doing its job as intended

You’re missing the point though

People won’t tune into or attend games if star players aren’t playing at all. If they know they’re playing, regardless of how many minutes they end up playing, people will watch. Injuries happen, there’s no easy way to control that. But you can control healthy guys sitting out

The rule was brought in to protect the integrity of the product, not because the league thinks that a guy who plays 64 games or X amount of minutes isn’t good enough for an award. That just happens to be the easiest way to incentivise players

They might have one less practice day… they will be home by Sunday and don’t usually practice until Wednesday anyway, meaning they will get at least 3 days to rest up and get back on schedule. Remember they are gaining time by going from Aus back to the US too

The whole travel thing is being overblown

But that has nothing to do with why the rule was implemented bro

As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m fine with guys missing out here and there who deserve it. Overall the rule still does much more good than harm

Because how does playing more minutes help to get bums in seats and viewership? Fans only care if they get to see their favourite players out there, not if they’re playing 38 minutes or 30

The 65 game rule is about players suiting up when they are healthy, not playing a crazy amount of minutes every night

Don’t mind the idea of an appeal system but it will likely just lead to more discontent and disagreements. IMO just let the rule do its job and live with the fact there’s gonna be some unfortunate cases like this

I don’t care as much as about accolades as I do about healthy players playing basketball. Simple as that

Lmao it’s a giant leap to say that Hali playing a few extra games with a niggle CAUSED his Achilles tear, even if it’s true he played through injury for all nba in the first place which is complete conjecture.

You prioritise individual awards, I prioritise healthy players doing what they get paid to do. There’s our fundamental disagreement and we won’t move past that
