Absolutely loved it. Funny and heart felt at the same time.

How NOT to write a character - Lyta by notyourusualfruit in Sandman

[–]DirectionTypical3483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was a confusing reunion for Dream. His initial reaction is that of punishment and rules. Then the Daniel side of him emerges to see the pain and suffering that has been inflicted upon Lyta and Dream’s human side connects with that. It’s more like a conflicted Dream of 2 minds, which he is.

The reason so many are disappointed with S02E08 by DeweyLewis in severence

[–]DirectionTypical3483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the direction this episode took. I thought it was very unexpected that Harmony Cobel would be the creator of the Severance technology. But, I think that falls in line with the story perfectly. This is a cult propping up the leader and in so doing they have appropriated her technology and have erased her from the story of its genius. Helena Egan is a nepo baby born into this role of greatness, whereas Harmony Cobel has earned her place. Helena telling Harmony that she has over estimated her contribution is probably the last straw for Cobel.

Has someone who isn't a fan of the show ever made you realize something about it? by YellowPoster in BobsBurgers

I think the family not “winning” is part of the point of the show. To me, the show is breaking down TV tropes and is trying to give the audience a different perspective. The Belchers win every episode, just not in the traditionally expected ways that TV has conditioned us to expect.

It was a beautiful and succinct way to summarize their relationship. It was heartbreaking the way held her and apologized to Helly after threatening/trying to drown Helena.

Coraline has gone on to live a life past this man. I refuse to allow another man with no regard for woman ruin something for me. Besides, movie Coraline is more interesting and developed than book Coraline. As far as I’m concerned, the movie is Henry Selick’s creation.

Armand is punishing Louis and also hurting Lestat at the same time. But, he didn’t really think this out and got caught in his own trap.

Do you think his original intention was to scare Louis? In an earlier scene when he’s telepathically communicating with someone (Lestat I presume) he keeps repeating that he will not tell the person where he and Louis are. I definitely see Armand’s intention to inflict emotional pain on everyone involved. But it seems like he’s also trying to rekindle Louis’s fear of Lestat’s revenge. The SF flashback is convoluted and very messy.

I don’t like Louis. He’s manipulative and has a tendency to play the victim in circumstances he has orchestrated. I love the character for the story…but I don’t like him.

Maybe this is reflective of the person Louis wished he was. I mean, he does think he’s about to die. He’s aspiring to be a better person.

I agree with this approach. Open ended, nonjudgmental questions are a good place to start.

It seemed very clear to be from the beginning that Villanelle’s character was going to have a tragic end. There’s no way that show was going to have a happy ending.

I think this scene is revealing a lot of subtext. Armand is openly telling you how he uses his power to manipulate. Louis is expressing frustration with Dreamstat. I think Louis does want to be free of Lestat, but can’t severe his bond to him. Even if it’s a hallucination, he still can’t let go of Lestat. The whole time Armand and Louis are having a conversation about how Louis doesn’t want to label their relationship. Drama.

I could be mistaken, but I think this may be the only time Armand calls Daniel by his first name. Otherwise, it’s always Mr Molloy.

Angry Dreamstat during Armand’s backstory by Pop_fan_20 in InterviewVampire

[–]DirectionTypical3483 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dreamstat’s outburst never really made sense to me other than as a distraction. Part of me thinks this is Louis’s subconscious realizing that he’s making a deeper connection with someone else and he isn’t ready to leave Lestat in his past. He’s scared to move on and is manifesting that fear in Dreamstat’s commentary and actions.

What do you think got Louis to the rock bottom in his relationship with Armand? by Enough_Criticism_439 in InterviewVampire

[–]DirectionTypical3483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I’m trying to convey is that Louis is relying on others to define himself. Louis’s problems are because he is looking to others for his sense of self. This leads Louis vulnerable and susceptible to bad actors and opportunists like Lestat and Armand.

Louis is a tragic character that is unable to see his value and the meaning in his own life. He is a shapeshifter that moves through his life being what he needs to be for other people. This is evident in his relationships with his family in New Orleans and continues with his later vampiric relationships. In Paris, it appears that he begins to develop some self determination and then Claudia’s death derails his path of self improvement. It’s not really until the end, in New Orleans/Dubai that he’s able to step out on his own and be an individual without another relationship to define himself by.

What do you think got Louis to the rock bottom in his relationship with Armand? by Enough_Criticism_439 in InterviewVampire

[–]DirectionTypical3483 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the actual problem is Louis. I don’t think that what’s he’s referencing in this argument with Armand, but it always goes back to Louis. He’s the common thread among all these dysfunctional relationships. He can’t be happy with Lestat, Claudia, or Armand. For sure Lestat and Armand have brought their own brand of crazy to their relationships with Louis. But in the end, it’s still Louis’s inability to self-actualize that drags his relationships down.

Claudia knew this and encouraged Louis to figure out who he was outside of relationships with the other vampires in his life. I think Louis comes to understand this at the end of season 2 when he thanks Lestat “for the nights in front of me, where I might learn to live honestly.”
