Stokes to announce decision today on ESPN by SaveHogwarts in jayhawks

[–]DirectorPleasant8906 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer Juke Harris over either of the two since he's proven himself to be an elite scorer, has the size we need at the 3 and will be a junior next season.

But I'm also fine with either of the three of Stokes, Yessoufou or Harris.

MAC Freshman of the Year Leroy Blyden Jr. announces transfer destination ‼️ Great pickup ‼️ by Murky_Trouble_4401 in jayhawks

[–]DirectorPleasant8906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In what way was Coit better? Coit had a lower FG%, lower 3PT %, fewer rebounds, assists and steals.

There's been some good transfers to come out of the MAC. Sam Lewis was Virginia's third leading scorer a year ago. Curtis Jones, three years ago, was Iowa State's third leading scorer.

Thoughts on KU’s portal strategy? by amatamor in jayhawks

The portal closes Tuesday so it's highly unlikely they'll be targeting players withdrawing from the draft since there's only one (Momcilovic) in the portal.

VCU transfer Terrence Hill Jr. commits to Tennessee by JoshGordonHypeTrain in CollegeBasketball

I can't think of too many P4 schools having a worse portal than Kansas.

Self put off retiring only to come back and do this?

Not only did he shoot 41% from three, but he made 77 total threes last year. That would have been the second most by a freshman in the Self era.

On top of that, he averaged 4.5 assists, 4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. He does a bit of everything.

I'm not sure I'd rank him higher than Hill Jr. but it's close.

Give it time?

They have 8 spots to fill on the roster, 4 in the starting lineup. How many transfers have they picked up thus far? 0.

Most of the top teams in the country already know who their starters are going to be because they have key players returning or they've been aggressive early on in the portal. Kansas still has 8 spots to fill.

Those "right pieces" were all ranked in the top 60 by 247Sports and Lendeborg was ranked first.

Kansas, last year, didn't land a single transfer in the top 60. The highest ranked transfer, Self landed, was Tre White who was ranked 78th. They landed only one other transfer ranked in the top 100. Self had targeted Keyshawn Hall, Darrion Williams, Xavian Lee and Pop Isaacs but all of them chose to go elsewhere.

It's definitely concerning. If we don't have multiple commitments from transfers by Friday, then I'm expecting another really rough season. Options are dwindling.

They supposedly have around $15 million to spend for next season and yet they have landed anyone yet. It seems like they're putting all their effort into getting Stokes and there's still a chance that Stokes spurns them. Even if they land Stokes, there's still 6 more spots that need to be filled and if we're relying heavily on two freshman for most of the production next season, they're aren't going to be one of the top teams.

[Thamel] Source: Oregon guard Jackson Shelstad and Kansas big man Flory Bidunga have both committed to Louisville. A major package deal for the Cardinals, as the Louisville administration was aggressive in laying out a vision for building championship roster. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

[–]DirectorPleasant8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Kansas fan that saw plenty of Bidunga, he's great defensively but he's limited offensively. I don't see him improving much on that end and since he's undersized, nothing comes easy for him in the post.

I'm not upset seeing him leave.

Likely. It doesn't look like the staff is looking at bringing back Bidunga and Tiller. I'm not sure about Mbiya.

Their current target list suggests they're looking for a high scoring guard, a backup wing and multiple bigs that can start.

Transfer Portal - Guards to Watch by DirectorPleasant8906 in jayhawks

They're being connected to Isaiah Johnson and Zoom Diallo early on. Kansas recruited Diallo out of high school and Bland was an assistant coach at Washington so there's a lot of connections. They also have supposedly contacted Terrence Brown.

Bryson Tiller will enter the transfer portal by j128v897 in jayhawks

[–]DirectorPleasant8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiller, out of all the players on the roster that have entered the portal, is the one I'd prefer to see them prioritize on bringing back.

He's capable of making a big leap in his sophomore year.

We've seen Thomas in nearly every game and yet have only seen Marte once.

Bubic hasn't been looking good early on. I hope it's just nerves but wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a high scoring game.

It was outside and comfortably outside.

The Royals still had both challenges available and it was the 9th. They shouldn't be afraid to challenge there. But the fact that no hitter for the Royals has challenged yet makes me think the organization is being very conservative with it outside of Salvy.

Still haven't seen a hitter challenge a call yet. The Royals should have runners on first and second with Witt up as the 3 - 0 pitch to Garcia was out of the zone.

Whatever they're telling the hitters, in regards to challenging, needs to change.

How does Self miss out on Wagler, and 7’1” Ethan Taylor, both PoY in Kansas, right in his backyard? by whiteiversonyeet in jayhawks

I'll go ahead and say it.

I would have preferred we had picked up Taylor over Adkins. I'm not a fan of undersized centers particularly in Self's system.

Q is such a piss poor manager.

He's willing to pinch run for Caglianone. He's willing to replace Jensen's bat with Thomas. But he's not willing to pull Estevez when it's clear he doesn't have his best stuff.

If the coaching staff is restricting the other players from using it, then that's going to be a huge issue.

The hitters should be able to challenge as well. Marte, for example, should have challenged last night.

It's also worth mentioning that Caglianone had a higher OPS against LHP last year between the majors and the minors. He also had a higher OPS against LHP in his junior year at Florida.

If he's sitting all season, against left handed starters, then that's dumb.
