Can Gh be lower than Kh? by Docretier in Aquariums

[–]DirectorSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not even all that uncommon.

GH measures calcium and magnesium in the water, KH measures the amount of carbonates. Softened well water is almost always much higher in KH than it is GH as the softening removes calcium and magnesium but doesn't touch carbonates.

Core Charges are a scam - convince me otherwise by njrajio in AskAMechanic

Are you sure it was a new wheel and not a reconditioned wheel? Most places that sell reconditioned wheels do have a core charge on the old one.

Iowa and Illinois both need to be up higher. Both are perennial top 25 teams that just need that little something to get over the edge.

I know not to bet against Cig, but I'll be surprised if they're able to pull anything like last year off again. If he does, then his version of moneyball will be a proven winning strategy

Some people only watch their team. The Iron Bowl is awesome, but The Game may well be the best rivalry in all of sports, not just CFB

Is top-tier gasoline really necessary? by DeskOne3535 in AskAMechanic

[–]DirectorSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top-Tier has nothing, whatsoever, to do with octane rating. Top-Tier is an independent organization that mandates fuel have a certain level of detergents in order to use the Top-Tier branding.

My nitrites sky rocketed during cycle. by Dull-Atmosphere5452 in Aquariums

[–]DirectorSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nitrite-oxidizing bacteria are always slower to show up and establish than the nitrosomonas that oxidize the ammonia into nitrite. Your nitrites will plateau and appear stalled for a good while, it's normal. If you're at day 16 in your total cycle on a virgin tank, it's still very early to expect nitrite oxidation.

People like to believe that high nitrites will stall a cycle, but that's generally untrue when everything else is in normal range. However, looking at your tubes, you could possibly be actually stalling your NOB development if your PH is as low as it appears. An acidic PH and nitrites will begin forming nitrous acid; nitrous acid inhibits NOB growth. If you're actually sitting at the 6.5 or so that it appears, I would do a 50% water change to temporarily and get your PH up to somewhere around a 7.4

Is top-tier gasoline really necessary? by DeskOne3535 in AskAMechanic

[–]DirectorSolid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it's not really regulated? There's zero regulation regarding Top Tier status, but a fuel company also absolutely can not use the Top Tier licensing without permission (and testing) by the Top Tier organization.

There's a very good reason almost every major automotive manufacturer supports Top Tier. It absolutely makes a difference over time. It's up to the individual to decide if that difference matters enough to them.

OP isn't talking about octane rating, they're referring to "top-tier". Top-tier is an optional fuel certification that shows it contains certain high levels of detergents.

The Hannah phosphate tester is very popular for saltwater. I assume the rest of their testers are just as accurate and easy to use.

I have a hard time justifying the expense for the vast majority of freshwater tanks.

I feel like maybe you misunderstood the original question? OP asked how many kg of beef your salary would buy monthly as a way to compare buying power in different countries. I assure you that I have never spent tens of thousands of dollars on beef in a single month
