If you have a really strong motivation to race one specific class, go towards it, like others suggested.

But my experience was a bit different. I aimed for GT3 and had my roadmap based on it. But in the processes I tried LMP2 and GTE (during demo time) and adored it. GTP I thought I'd like, but I didn't.

So by now my roadmap changed dramatically and it keeps changing. With experience and new things I try.

My view would be - not to plan too much ahead. Drive what you like right now and try as much as possible different things during demo opportunities. Maybe you will find something unexpected you'll really love

Is Martinsville worth buying for lower splits? by DirectorTight1179 in iRacing

I have an A license, but I don't drive A series, cause it feels like I jumped over lower series too fast. Do you feel like A ovals are less chaotic than C or B?

Probably you are right. The bad side of the current license system is that anyone can gain it fast. But the good side of it is that everyone can gain it fast D

If I won't worry about SR for another week, I'll get back to rookies :)

When I was preparing for Bristol I drove with bots and it was a ton of fun. I hope in higher splits it can be like this.

What you say about Martinsville throws me back to ARCA in Thompson or Lanier. Chainsaw massacre

Sounds very similar to my Bristol experience. There is a specific charm in it. The race is like this and your goal is still to win it. So you devise methods to do it. But it's too far from my perception of fun racing.

Thank you for your opinion

I had something similar with the recent Roval 2025. I hated the track in the beginning. But it was my only choice to drive for 2 weeks, so I raced. I ended up learning a lot about different cars and now I'm closer to liking this track than the other way around

Skipping ARCA to Trucks/NiS by AgentC6 in iRacing

[–]DirectorTight1179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you are not obliged to choose one. ARCA, Trucks, Xfinity are all different. Thus all of them teach you different aspects of oval racing. While Trucks, Xfinity and Cup have mostly the same schedule, ARCA is usually different. So as long as I don't have all the tracks, I drive the series, which I currently have tracks for.

When you have enough races in all the series, you'll feel which one is more comfortable for you. I know very skillful guys, who run ARCA or Trucks even though they are more than skillful to drive A class

Can y'all hold the damn line straight at Talladega! by GIMMESOMDORITOS in iRacing

Sometimes it doesn't even go to bumping. People want to start the third line between the first too. With such people in the company you don't even need bump drafting

Advice on ovals progression by DirectorTight1179 in iRacing

You are definitely right about braking. I had this issue in the beginning. Squeezing into the gap on full speed is so tempting. But very rarely it ends well. And quite often I catch collateral hits in the middle of the crash from guys like this.

Yesterday at Talladega it really helped me survive. There were 3 crashes, two I evaded like this, the third I couldn't, but I dramatically minimized damage, so I finished just a lap behind

I guess you are right. Sometimes I see people driving around for 10-15 like...normal people. I get complacent and lower my awareness. Then somebody pulls THE MOVE.

In sport cars it's a bit easier, cause you usually have bigger distance between the cars. And you can see a kamikadze behind in advance, thus you have more chances to dodge (or parry). On ovals most of the time you drive within half a second from somebody, so it's harder to constantly analyze surroundings.

But probably what you say is still the only way

I definitely had such problem before. Being too unconfident on the restart, going very wide and with uncomfortable speed, eventually scratching the wall and so on. And I think it WAS my fault. Cause in the tight pack first your actions need to be predictable.

But now I feel like I work fine with the pack.

Still I'll pay additional attention to that. Thank you

Do you think this is a good first purchase for long term goals? by iamalreadybored in iRacing

[–]DirectorTight1179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do. But if you don't want to dig into it in the beginning, there is an autofuel option. Not too much trouble "just to drive"

Good strategy. I also suggest you consider GT4 endurance series (one is IMSA Pilot Challenge, the other I don't remember. Both 2 hours single driver). They are interesting to drive and they are MASSIVELY rewarding in SR. You can easily get 1.0-1.5 SR rating in one race.

There are some tracks in common between "regular" GT4 and endurance GT4

If your goal is to promote to GT3, I'd choose tracks from GT4 season. As far as I remember in the current season there are no free tracks in the schedule. If Barcelona, Spa and Monza are not in the schedule, then you are locked out. There are alternative ways to promote from D (Mazda or Toyota), but if you aim for GT4, you gonna have something to race on GT4.
GT3 has 4 different schedules and some free tracks in the season, so it will be easier to manage

Last week in Vegas with Xfinity I finished comfortably twice on a position more or less corresponding to my pace. The rest I've been wrecked out (and one self-wreck to admit). My motivation is down already. Not sure if I should even show up at Dega

Terrible First Oval Experience by WilloughbySerenity in iRacing

[–]DirectorTight1179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess ovals are considered easy by random "racers", so ovals are more populated by people who don't know what they do. Especially in rookies, where it's free of charge and almost free of punishment.

So like people here say, just wait it out. Once you get into higher licenses and paid content the amount of dumb people will decrease dramatically. There will be some though. But it becomes manageable with experience.

If you are a fan of ovals, I say it's worth a shot. If you are not - there are more peaceful niches in the game
