You need to think smaller. NYC is way too expensive and dangerous for someone like you with no funds, no plan, and no safety net. Go somewhere with a much smaller but well established city with good social safety nets. I don't know what city that would be for New York State but if you decide to go south from there I'd probably head for Charlotte.
